    3. Hello, Maggie. I am glad to see another Sisson researcher working away. I'm not glad about the seeming block to your research, just glad about your work. It's good to have friends in the search. For the past 7 years or so, research by professional genealogists has tried to find the origins of Sisson immigrants to North America in British records. We often know about the records immigrant Sissons left in the New World, but are stymied when we find persons of the same name in the right time in Britain. We know, for example, the names of the progenitors of three Sisson kindreds in North America - Robert Sisson of Virginia, Richard Sisson of New England, and Thomas Sisson of Virginia. We don't know where they came from in England, though we do know approximately when they must have left for America. You have the jump on many of us there; at least you know when and where your Englishman was born. Many of us envy you that. So the short answer to your request for help is this - stick with us. I see you are a subscriber to the Rootsweb Sisson email list. That will give you as good an insight into Sisson research as is currently available. Two further suggestions - - There will be a Sisson Gathering, in Springfield, Illinois, in late June. Conversations with other Sissons and presentations by those who have been researching Sisson origins may give you a sense of "how-to." - The Sisson DNA Project might be able to point you (and other researchers) toward a relationship between your Robert Sisson (b.1740) and someone else whose descendants have already become participants in the Project. You have probably already discovered the Sisson Genealogy Site at Rootsweb. If not, it is worth exploring extensively. See http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~dasisson/. Information about the Gathering and about the Project is available on the home page there. Here's to you and your research: Good luck!
