I am looking for anyone who has solid evidence of any vital records of Giles Sisson, the son of Thomas and Jane Freeman Sisson. I have seen several dates entered for his birth. One was in 1712, and another in 1715, on different sources on the Internet.. Which is correct? From what I personally found on him, he was still alive in the 1790 census in Stephenstown, Rensealler Co., NY. I noticed several people believe Elizabeth's surname was Arnold, and I agree. There were also several other Arnold males living on the following pages in Stephenstown, near Giles.. So I thought perhaps these were relatives of Elizabeth, since she is "thought" to be Elizabeth Arnold. I do agree with that theory if the data I have collected myself is correct. I also saw that Giles's wife Elizabeth, is listed as dying in IN? I also found that hard to believe also because Indianna was still a wilderness in the early 1800's when she would have died. I agree with what Tim Sisson writes about her. Her children didn't migrate there until much later I read? What was the source of the location of death of Elizabeth and also her death date? I would very much like to see what sources a person used in their research on this line. It seems very sketchy, and I have many questions regarding his children?. I have not found any solid evidence in any files or books proving where Giles and Elizabeth actually died. I personally think they died in Otsego Co. (I have some pretty solid theories, if someone would like to hear them) Does anyone have a family bible that documented this data? My gggg grandmother was called Mrs. Sarah (Sisson) Deforest-Sergeant. She m. my gggg grandfather Thomas Sergeant, of SNB, NY abt 1798-1800, (according to the births of their children) A Rev Newcomb married them, but I never found a Rev Newcomb. . They were said to have been married in or near Cobleskil, Schoharie Co, NY, and then came overland, to the hills of South New Berlin area abt 1800, and Butternuts area(near Unadilla). Her own children say she was the daughter of Giles Sisson and Elizabeth Arnold, when interviewed, yet her birth date is in direct dispute with the documented birth of Sarah, Gile's daughter, which was 1755. My ggg grandfather James Sergeant named his first son, Giles Sergeant. They also said in an interview of that time of 1850-1870 that our Sarah also had a brother Arnold living in Livonia, Livingston Co., NY, at one time.. According to her tombstone, My Sarah was 73 when she died in 1843,(making her b. abt 1770) or it may just read 1849(tombstone is illegible) If that is true, making her birth 1776 if she died in 1849) Yet Sisson researchers tell me Gile's daughter Sarah was born in 1755. Was there a vital record listed on this Sarah b. 1755 in RI,? If so, is it possible the first Sarah died, and they had another daughter they also named Sarah? The book only lists her as being married to a George------ (It does not say Mr George) Several sources have listed the marriage in RI, but if a person doing research doesn't know his real name, how can a person ever know where they married? I am confused about this. I am almost sure my Sarah Sisson was married to a George "William" Deforest. She was widowed as early as 1799-1800(her four children were: William, John, Theodorus( or Thaddeus) and Sally who m. Dr William Jacox, of Butternuts, NY. John and Sally have definitely been verified. I can not find the other two, thinking they died young. I sure would appreciate some help on my Sarah Sisson.. Penny, Great questions and I hope someone has the answers. I have a related question. Does anyone have the ancestry of Giles Sisson's wife, Elizabeth Arnold? My understanding is that she was a cousin to the Benedict Arnold of American Revolutionary War fame. I believe their common ancestor was Benedict's grandfather or great-grandfather. Thank you.
