Merry Christmas to all! I have a story I could share about my great grandmother, Marion Sisson and her husband, my great grandfather, Abner Anthony. Around the turn of the last century Marion Sisson was listed as Post Mistress in South Portsmouth, RI. I suspect that she knew of Abner before that, but that is where they "met". They were married in 1905. Abner was a mail man and was one of the first Rural Route Carriers, starting in 1899. That organization of Rural Route Carriers had a US postage stamp issued a few years back, and three mail men were pictured on bicycles. Abner was the one in the middle! We have many other family stories of my grandmother and her sisters helping their dad "get the mail out", especially after a hurricane or bad snowstorm. He delivered by bike, horse and wagon, and finally by car, retiring in 1947. All the best to you in the New Year, Deb Gustafson
