I have found a record of the genealogy of a George Robert Lawton (1813-1885) which states that he "was a descendent of one of the earliest families in Rhode Island, his father's family arrived at Aquidneck in 1638 aboard the ship "Planter" from Cranfield, Parish, Bedfordshire, England. The family settled in the Portsmouth, Newport area and obtained a land grant known today as Lawton's Valley." These Planter passengers are obviously our Lawtons, prob. George & Thomas both. Does anyone know how to locate the passenger list for the Planter? I have been trying to, but have had no luck. Evidently there is such a record (somewhere) because the information appears to be very reliable. Someone must have located the Sparrow records, unless it was just information handed down in the family, and I doubt that. Please tell me where I should look. Mary Jo
