    1. [SISSON] The Ship Planter re Lawton
    2. Mary Jo Sisson March
    3. I just received this email from my English friend in Bedfordshire. He is the one that found Thomas Lawton's and Elizabeth Salisbury's marriage record for us. I had found a record that listed George Lawton, the six Wheelers and William (W)Odell on the same voyage on the Planter in 1638. I don't believe this record does. As many of you know, William Wodell was mentioned in the will of Thomas Lawton as "his loving friend." Their properties are side by side on the early Portsmouth map. When I learned that William also came from Cranfield, I thought he and Thomas had probably known each other since childhood. I was glad to see that this record tells where the ship Planter arrived , (Newport). So many of the ships landed at Boston, I had thought it probably did too. The Wheelers were probably cousins of George, as the Lawtons and Wheelers of Cranfield were related. I believe, without checking, that either Thomas and George's mother or grandmother was a Wheeler. The 'master' of the ship Planter was Nicholas Trerice, there are several records showing that he made several trips to America, with the Planter, including one in 1635. Since Thomas isn't listed here, he must have come a few years later. I believe George was the oldest son, and Thomas was one of the younger sons, so there was an age difference between them. I told the man who sent me this information, that he was a fine English gentleman, to be so helpful. Isn't he a great researcher. ----- To: "Mary Jo Sisson March" <benoni@centurytel.net> Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 12:15 PM Subject: LAWTON > Hi Mary Jo, > > I had to go to the record office yesterday and decided to investigate your > LAWTON emigration > issue and this is what I found: > > BLARS Reference Clfs.50 and extract at CRT150/79a > Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants to New England 1620 to > 1650 by Charles > Edward Banks.
