In the Carson City, Nevada state museum is a note that says that James Sisson was saved from freezing to death by "Snowshoe" John A. Thompson about 10 Jan 1857. James was out trapping and got caught by a heavy snowfall. Snowshoe saved his life, but was best known for carrying the mail on his back from Genoa, Nevada to Placerville using only two long skiis and a pole. He did this for a number of years throughout the winter, as there was no other crossing then. The article on this appeared in the Sacramento Union newspaper. John A.
