In the Carson City, Nevada state museum is a note that says that James Sisson was saved from freezing to death by "Snowshoe" John A. Thompson about 10 Jan 1857. James was out trapping and got caught by a heavy snowfall. Snowshoe saved his life, but was best known for carrying the mail on his back from Genoa, Nevada to Placerville using only two long skiis and a pole. He did this for a number of years throughout the winter, as there was no other crossing then. The article on this appeared in the Sacramento Union newspaper. John A. Thompson was born 30 Apr 1827 and died in Genoa 15 May 1876. A large monument stands in his memory there. Was James Sisson in your line? Ed Nissen, edjeanne@mlode.com
