Hi Carol, Calvin's obit does not mention any children. I have come up with some new information on Edward. I received some info from Bradley University today. Here are a few things that they mention. 1. Edward arrived in Manhatten, Kansas in 1882 with his parent's : George Sisson and Mary Arnott. 2. He attended Morpeth Royal Grammer School from 1877-1882. 3. He attended the State Agricultural College in Manhatten, Kansas from 1883 -1886. He was the youngest graduate in the history of the college. 4. In 1888, he became the principal of Manhatten High School. 5. In 1990, he resigned that position to become the principal of schools in Mound City, Kansas. 6. In 1891 he gave up teaching to continue his studies. In 1892 he entered the University of Chicago. That same year, he founded the South Side Academy, of which he was principal until 1897. 7. In 1894, The South Side Academy became affiliated with The University of Chicago. 8. February 25, 1897, he was unanimously elected first Director of Bradley Polytechnic Institute at the age of 27. They mention that he had a beard to make him look older. 9. In 1903, he was granted a leave of absence to study at the University of Berlin in Germany. 10. He resigned from Bradley in 1904 11. 1905, he received the degree of PHD from Harvard University. 12. He then spent one year as Assistant Professor of Education at The University of Illinois. 13. He then went to the University of Washington in Seattle. 14. He was Commissioner of Education for the State of Idaho from 1913-1917. 15. Until 1921, He was The Preident of The University of Montana. 16. He was then , Professor of Philosophy at Reed College, Portland, Oregon, until 1939. 17. He returned later and taught at Reed College again. He married Nellie Stowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Stowell, November 29, 1899. Another reference says 1898. They had a daughter , Margaret Sisson Dunlap, and a son Calvin Richard Sisson. Edward died 1949 and Nellie in 1945, both died in Carmel, California. Edward is buried in Monterey. Nellie was an artist and taught Art at Bradley. Her paintings were good enough to hang in some of the galleries in Washington and Oregon. Edward did remarry after Nellie died. His second wife was Astrid Honoria Seron. With Edward coming to Manhatten Kansas with his parent's when he was only 13 years old, it is most likely that other siblings came with them. I have a couple of obits on Edward and Nellie, that I will post later. Larry L. Sisson
I am starting a comparison project looking at similarities in [email protected]%) surname group Dna Tests. Citing privacy concerns, the Sisson DNA project management has declined to release the data, they feel it is not their place to do so, and I can see their point. If any of the Sisson participants would like to send me their DNA results privately, I would appreciate it. The choice is up to each one of you. Forwarded from Barb Austin: (some current details omitted) Obituaries Robert Bob Sisson January 18, 1913 April 8, 2003Services: Friday, April 11, 1 p.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 11, 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd., for long-time Bakersfield resident Bob Sisson. Pastor Doug Davis of Calvary Bible Church will be officiating.Bob was born in Tulare, California, to Clark and Blanche Sisson. The family moved to Bakersfield after Bob completed the 7th grade. He graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1930 and graduated from Bakersfield College in 1932. Bob was headed to Stanford University until the effects of the depression made it impossible for him to continue his education. While in college, Bob organized a 4-piece band. They played for high school dances, as well as private parties. In December of 1933, the band was hired by a club in Westwood Village, near UCLA; for 6 months. Returning to Bakersfield in 1934, the band increased to 7- pieces, and by December, the band was an eleven piece group. Bob played the drums, he was self-taught, and also managed the band. He hired a good looking actor from Hollywood to front the band and they began a road trip that lasted seven years. They played in the best hotels all over the United States. While in Reno, Nevada, they had a radio contract with CBS and twice weekly they broadcast to New York. One month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the band dissolved. Bob returned to Bakersfield where he became a salesman. He missed playing the drums so he organized a little band that played locally. In 1943, a young dance teacher, Johnnie McEuen, hired Bob to play the drums for her dance recital and one year later, June, 1944, they were married. He continued playing the drums for the Stage Door Studio recitals until Johnnies last recital in June 1991. Johnnie died in July 1991; they were married 47 years.Bob never regretted following music and playing the music of the 30s and 40s. He considered his time in music the equivalent of a college education. Bob attended Calvary Bible Church and had a special relationship with the Lord. He was a devoted husband and father. He and Johnnie are reunited in Heaven.Visitation will be Thursday 3:00 9:00 p.m.Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors

This could be him - we might be able to pull an obituary from a northwest newspaper, with names of surviving children. Carol Sisson Regehr Sisson-L list mom -- [email protected]

Hello all, I just bought a Sisson family bible on ebay. I am interested in it finding its original family. I will give you the details I have been told and hopefully someone will recognize it. It was found in the attic of an old estate in the Mid-West (likely the Nebraska area). It is a 1872 pocket size New Testament Bible. There are personal photos taped inside the first few blank pages. There is a hand written message dated 1887. Presented to Mattie Sisson by her Grandmother. There is a personal newspaper photo inside the cover showing a family members obituary, titled "Victim Of The Wreck." This victim was a Miss Bessie Vaudemark. Please let me know if you have any info as to where this bible belongs. Thank you, Sara Williams (Richard, George, Thomas, Giles, Samuel M., Samuel, Erastus, Esek, Charles, Vernie Sisson Deschwanden, Betty Deschwanden Hubbs, Gail Hubbs Williams, Heath (my husband)
I am the bearer of sad news. A real Sisson gentleman, Albert Wallace "Wally" Sisson passed away March 29, 2003, in the Town of Lapeer, near Marathon, New York. He was a descendant of the Robert Townsend Sisson line in Fairfax, Va. He was 81 years old. Wally was so gracious when I first stopped at his home years ago and introduced myself as a Sisson genealogist. It was his (and his wife's) wonderful welcome to a complete stranger that encouraged me to continue seeking out my family's history. God bless. Laura Sisson-Thompson, Wisconsin

I didn't find any Sissons listed at Ybase, but thought this was an interesting site in light of the Sisson DNA project. The Ybase site is at http://www.ybase.org/ Cathy
