    2. I am seeking the families of these individuals who applied for Confederate Pension benefits from the state of Texas. If and when you respond, once I am satisfied that you are a legal descendant--you are who you say you are--I will gladly release these applications to you with no strings attached. I look forward to hearing from the above. These Sisson's to my knowledge are not related to me and appear to have come from Louisiana. I also have an application for W. L. Sisson, who may be William Lane Sisson of Louisiana. Regards, Kathleen Sisson Boyd Dork-at-Large

    1. [SISSON-L] Mark Sisson - Dave & Joan's son
    2. David Sisson
    3. Dear Friends and Cousins, A little while ago I received this message from Joan and Dave Sisson -- > Please pass the word: Mark [Joan and Dave's only son] died this morning of complications with diabetes. We're so glad he had the opportunity to attend the last Gathering. Isn't it ironic that after all the years of research we've done, we'll have no one to pass on the name from our line. I wrote them to say -- > I am very saddened to hear of Mark's death. I am so glad I had a chance to meet and work with Mark in 2002. [Mark is the one who video-taped much of the 2002 Sisson Gathering, leaving me free to do my thing.] He was so eager to help and was indeed so helpful. I liked him very much. I hope I remembered to thank him. > I can't imagine what it is like to lose an only son. I have had horrible nightmares and day-time worries that one of my sons has died, and that is bad enough, but to know in broad daylight that your son is gone from this earth must be way beyond horrible. You have my deep sympathy. Mark is in my prayers, and so are you both, and Becky [their daughter]. > Your name - our name - has been passed on to a great many people who would not otherwise have known of their Sisson heritage, had it not been for your great and lengthy work in Sisson research. We are all your "adopted" sons and daughters. You are the ones who gave your work - if not your genes - to your Sisson kindred. We are now as good as your sons and daughters, having inherited our roots from your work. You have enabled many others to stand on your shoulders in reaching for our parents. We join Mark in calling you our genealogical parents. We thank you, along with him, for nurturing us." I suggest that you not use email to express your condolences. Their street address is David and Joan Sisson 2750 Marina Avenue Livermore CA 94550-9612 Yours, in sorrow, David Arne Sisson

    2. Hi Barb, I read your note and wanted to let you know that my husband and I added 2 new headstones this summer to the St. Colomba's Berkley Episcopal Churchyard in Middletown. Next to Charles Henry SISSON (1859-1924) are added one for Warren Randolph Sisson and wife Margaret Sherman Sisson. Next to this is James C. Fitzsimmons and wife Natalie Sisson Fitzsimmons. These are located near the area of a large wooden cross where an Episcopalian priest is buried. Hope this helps. By the way, the stone wall surrounding the churchyard and cemetery was installed many years ago by my husband's grgrandfather, Charles H. SISSON, as we have the bill of lading for the work. 1. [SISSON-L] For John D Sisson
    2. I sent this directly to you yesterday and see it was deleted, so I will post directly to the list instead, in hopes that you will read it and respond. >Hi John, are you the John Sisson who lives in Bristol RI? I am in Middletown and for over 3 years have been photographing all the old farm cemeteries on this Island.  Have almost completed Portsmouth and I have completed all the Sisson stones in Middletown and Portsmouth.  Before tackling Newport Sisson stones, I decided that trying to do all the old farm lots was of the highest priority, due to construction, vandalism, etc.  I had the pleasure of locating 5 or 6 of the "lost" Portsmouth cemeteries, so listed on the RI Cem. Data Base that John Sterling et al set up. I have some info on the Touisset Sisson's and am wondering if you are familiar with the info on the document I wish to attach.  I don't send attachments without permission, so if you are that John Sisson of Bristol and OK the attachment, I will send it for any info you may be able to give me. Of course, Sisson-L does not accept attachments. Barb Austin, tracing 3 Sisson lines back to Richard, 2 thru John and 1 thru James.

    1. Re: [SISSON-L] Re: SISSON-D Digest V03 #176
    2. Laura: I had a postal card of one of Laurence Sisson's Maine seascapes and when I didn't find him in New England I scanned the country for a telephone number and found him in New Mexico. Then an exchange of correspondence and he sent me the lithographs. Almost too simple, but it shows what can be done if you are persistent. You have perhaps seen the note on the list yesterday that he is purportedly now in his 90's. That is not quite accurate: Laurence (notice it is spelled with a 'u', not a 'w') was born in 1928, 2d son of Arthur Foster Sisson of D. Dighton, Ma. His brother was Foster Davis Sisson and his sistert, Ruth. His lineage is: Richard, James, Jonathan, Jonathan, David, George F, George A, Arthur Foster, Laurence. A rather lengthy biographical article by a Bill Caldwell, is contained in his pamphlet, PASSAGES, explaining how he came to be an artist. Just a snippet from it will give you idea of this man and his accomplishments: "The man does too many things too well, and makes them look easy. He is an excellent jazz pianist, a crack golfer, a shark at the pinball machines, a vivid writer'. And much, much more. If you wish I can copy the article and send it to you. Just saend me your mailing address as I do not have a scanner. Laurence still lives with his wife Judy (according to my letter file of 1998) in Albuquerque, NM. John

    2. About Lawrence Sisson. I finally tracked him down )he had left Maine where he lived and painted Maine seascapes for many years) and yes he has his studio in New Mexico, either Albuquerque or Santa Fe and has had many exhibits. For our Gathering in '98 he sent me 10 of his lithographs and we auctioned them off. I haven't tried to find his lineage but I think he is of the Richard and Mary line. John

    3. Hello all, I'd like to make a correction to military info I posted about Kenneth Sisson with the title of Supreme Commander. According to a lady by the name of Sharon Hardwick, Kenneth was not, in fact, the Supreme Commander of anything. However, she says he was on the admin staff of the legal section. I have to apologize if there was misleading info in the first post. I did not verify each entry for accuracy due to the large amount of data. I simply posted what the listing said. Sorry for any inconvenience. Cathy

    3. Dear Friends and Cousins, If you have records of New England births, marriages, or deaths, you might consider offering photocopies of the Bible records to the special collections department of the New England Historic Genealogical Society - c/o Tim Hughes at 617-226-1223 or [email protected] or Tim Salls at 617-226-1232 or [email protected] or just send them to Special Collections Department NEHGS 101 Newbury Street Boston, MA 02116 There are several online sites which gladly accept transcriptions of Bible records for births, marriages, and deaths which occurred *anywhere* in the USA, Canada, Europe, or wherever your family resided. For a Google search of Sisson family Bibles, go to http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=sisson+family+bible The Sisson family Bible begun by my great-great-great-grandparents, Elisha and Elizabeth (Chappel) Sisson, appears at http://www.biblerecords.com/sisson.html I typed it up many years ago, and uploaded it to www.biblerecords.com a couple of years ago. Neat, huh? If you have a family Bible with valuable names and birth, marriage, and death dates, I hope you have taken measures to preserve it for your children and to share it with your cousins. May I suggest that you make good readable photocopies of all the family records pages, and the title page of the Bible. The title page is important to help evaluate the date before which any family records could not have been at the time of their occurrence. Offer photocopies to your sons, daughters, and cousins, and to any/all genealogical and historical societies active in the area where any of the births, marriages, or deaths occurred. Best to you and your research. David Arne Sisson
