This came my way and I thought I'd share. I was unaware of this fantastic news. Laura Sisson-Thompson (Racine, WI) Fairfax, Va., Robert Sisson lineage During World War II the Bremen passenger lists disappeared and it was widely believed and accepted that they had been destroyed in the war. After the demise of the Soviet Union and improved relations with Russia it was learned that indeed the Bremen records had survived having been stored in a salt mine during the war where they had been recovered by Soviet forces and removed to the Soviet Union. As part of the program to restore cultural material to their previous owners these records have been returned to the Bremen authorities. They are being indexed and the results made available on the internet at; http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/maus/auswanderung/index.html
I recently learned about a genealogy site called DistantCousin.com . Selected city directory lookups are free. www.distantcousin.com/Directories/ There were 20 hits for the Sisson name, many on the East coast. I just looked up a few in the Midwest. This is a Message Board post. Please reply to [email protected]: Apparently he was born about 1789 in New Haven, Conn. to James Sisson and Sarah Mansfield. As I understand, he was a medical doctor who lived in Cincinnati, OH, but I have no idea of his wife's name, where and when he died and who other than my gggrandfather, William S.Sisson, who his children might be. Anyone have any knowledge of him?

Hello Laurie, Regarding the Sisson gathering dates, you asked: Do you know something I don't"? Not really. I had obtained the dates from the Sisson website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~dasisson/ and found the following information: SISSON GATHERING 2004 will take place June 23-27 in Richmond, VA! You were correct in your assumption that it takes so long to say goodbye as Sharon writes: We'll have programs scheduled for the 24th, 25th and 26th, and we'll be departing the morning of the 27th. To Sharon and others on the committee: I appreciate all the hard work I know is involved in setting up this meeting. Thank you all so much. Hi, Laurie. If you come for the entire stretch, you'd arrive on the 23rd, set up any display you have to share, and meet and greet new friends and relatives. We'll have programs scheduled for the 24th, 25th and 26th, and we'll be departing the morning of the 27th. And I can tell you that, in my experience, saying goodbye was the hard part. Laura, thanks for bringing this up. It is time for an update and for marking the new calendars. We've been working on the program for the Gathering. It's not all carved in stone yet, but we've secured a special guest speaker for our closing dinner on Saturday evening (26th), and we think we'll have something educational for everybody, and a couple of especially interesting events. If anybody out there has an idea for topics or a presentation you'd like to make, please let either David Martin ([email protected]) or me ([email protected]) know about it soon. We have a large number of people on our list to be sent registration forms and details in the spring. Contact me if you want to be added to that list. And Laura's right. There is a lot of history within an hour of the hotel where we'll be meeting. Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Civil War battlefields, and plantations are all nearby, as well as the Virginia State Library and Archives. We're looking forward to meeting new Sissons and reuniting with those we've met before. Laura, The little goldenrod card sitting on my desk says June 23 - 26 so do you know something I don't? Such as that's how long it takes to say goodby to everyone! I haven't been to the Family Gathering before but is starting to get interesting. Laurie H. Sisson
Hi - Just a brief note as I am setting up my 2004 calendar - I look forward to attending the June 23-27 Sisson meeting in Richmond. My son, who lives near D.C., recently visited the Richmond historical sites and now I will have the opportunity to do so this summer. Any news update on the Sisson gathering?
