    3. I would like to know the relation between my self, granddaughter of David E. Sisson, who was the son of John Edgar Sisson whose wifes maiden name was Mirscham, and Richard Sisson / Portsmouth..? My uncle John David Sisson had a book which I believe was the "The Genealogy of the Sisson Kindred in America", but he seems to have misplaced it in a move... any info on this? and help would be appreciated... 3. In the 1930's DeLysle Ferree Cass of Chicago, Illinois, did some research which was published as "The Genealogy of the Sisson Kindred in America." Little is known about DeLysle Ferre Cass except that he lived from 1887 to 1973, was the son of Charles R. and Mary E. Cass, attended Amherst College and died in Skokie, Cook County, Illinois. He is also known to have published a science fiction story titled "Pilgrim in Love" in the September, 1913, issue of The All-Story Magazine. 1. 2006 SISSON GATHERING
    2. David Sisson
    3. Dear Cousins and Friends, I'm sending this message to the Sisson Email List and to all Sisson people whose email addresses are known. It is the "official" invitation to you to come to the Sisson Gathering in Rochester, New York, next June. You can also read it at the Sisson Genealogy Site. Just click here <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/%7Edasisson/gathering2006.htm>. From that page you can click to the Registration Form, or go to it directly from here <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/%7Edasisson/gathering2006registrationform.htm>. My friends, I think this is going to be one wonderful Gathering. I can't wait to see you here in Rochester. Yours, David Arne Sisson PS - Your address may be in one or more of our lists, and you may see this invitation again. I'd rather "hit" you more than once than not at all. I don't want anyone to be left out. I really want to see you in Rochester. Here's an invitation to you to the 2006 SISSON GATHERING Please print out this message, save the invitation, and return the registration form which is available here <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/%7Edasisson/gathering2006registrationform.htm>. You are invited to the 2006 Sisson Gathering to be held in June in Rochester, New York. The "central days" of the Gathering will be Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24. Some people may arrive sooner or stay later to enjoy the Upstate New York area. Many of our ancestors lived here - or passed through on their way to the Midwest -- or the Plains -- or the Mountains -- or the West Coast. "Migration" is the theme of the Gathering – migration from the East Coast into the interior of the new nation, between the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Rochester was on one of the main migration trails. The Mohawk Valley Trail began near Albany. Farther west the main route was the Genesee Turnpike beyond the Allegheny Mountains. The city became an important spot on the Erie Canal which opened the way to the Midwest and beyond. Rochester was called "the Flour City," lying at the center of America's first "bread basket." For several decades in the early 19th century Rochester was a boom town, the first of many such towns in early America. Our speaker, Darrell Norris, professor of geography at the State University of New York at Geneseo, will explain the various migration routes from the “Thirteen Colonies” across the Appalachians. He will focus both on migration from New England to Upstate New York and on the many Sisson families who migrated in other parts of the country. Professor Norris will go back to the beginning of English-speaking migration in the 17th century, move on to "the restless society" of 18th- and 19th-century America, and culminate with his recent research specifically on Sisson migration. He has published works on cultural and historical geography as well as on migration. I think we are in for a real treat from his presentation. You are invited to share a story or some family lore at the Gathering. This kind of "Show and Tell" has been one of the highlights of previous Gatherings. Two formal reports will also be presented to the Gathering, one concerning the on-going research for our British roots, and another on the DNA Project which is putting cousins in touch with each other and connecting "lost" Sissons with their ancestral roots. There will be tables for you to display your Sisson family treasures: family Bibles, old photographs and letters, keepsakes, etc. You probably should not bring valuables or irreplaceable items, but photographs or photocopies of them would be great! Plans are being laid for two "field trips." On the Thursday before the “official” opening of the Gathering, Tim Sisson of Cincinnati will lead us to the village of Unadilla, NY, where his ancestors John and Alcha (Crandall) Sisson came after the Revolutionary War. Many descendants of John and Alcha have lived and still live near Unadilla, and many other Sissons across the country can trace their roots to John, Alcha, and Unadilla. Highlights of this trip will include visits to the little six-grave cemetery where John and Alcha rest and to the larger cemetery where many others of their family are buried. Travel to Unadilla wends through the scenic foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and will last most of the day. Per-person costs for the Unadilla trip will be determined when we know the number of people who want to go. On the Friday morning, a motorcade will leave from the motel to the Erie Canal which carried many of our ancestors toward the American dream. We will see a working lock and probably a boat or two traversing it, and we’ll go to a nearby “village landing” and see its shops and rental facilities for bikes and canoes. The Gathering registration form includes places to express your interest in either or both of these optional events. The registration fee will be $55 per person covering the fee for our speaker and for three meals, lunch on Friday and lunch and dinner on Saturday. There is much to see and do in the vicinity of Rochester, sometimes called "the gateway to the Finger Lakes." * The George Eastman House, the world's largest museum of photography * The Strong Museum and its huge collection of antique toys * The Erie Canal Trail - short or longer hiking and biking tours, some including restored shipping and shopping centers * The home of Susan B. Anthony, now combined with her sister’s house next door and functioning as a museum * The Cobblestone Society Museum - preserving the oldest Cobblestone Church (1834) in North America and the house next door originally owned by Horace Greeley ("Go West Young Man" ) * The Rochester Museum and Science Center, including the Strasenburgh Planetarium Out of town: * Seneca Falls, NY, the National Women's Rights Park and the National Women's Hall of Fame - one hour east - where Sarah Sisson was one of the signers of the Declaration on Women's Rights in 1848 along with Susan B. Anthony * Auburn, NY, home of Harriet Tubman ("Conductor on the Underground Railroad") and William Seward (Lincoln's Secretary of State, purchaser of Alaska) * Palmyra, NY, "Queen of Erie Canal Towns" - the birthplace of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) * LeRoy, NY, where Jell-O was invented and where there are many antique shops * Genesee Country Village, recreated from 19th-century buildings brought from throughout western New York * Letchworth Park, the "Grand Canyon of the East" - 45 minutes south – home of Mary Jemison, the “White Woman of the Genesee” * Erie Canal cruises - several plans from various companies * Finger Lakes wineries - rivaling California's and Europe's best wines – from 30 minutes to an hour southeast, depending on your taste buds, your wallet, your appreciation of the beauty of the countryside * The Chautauqua Institution for arts, education, religion, recreation on the westernmost Finger Lake – 90 minutes west * Niagara Falls - 90 minutes west - the mighty falls themselves, plus "The Maid of the Mist" which passes under the Falls, and the Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada (BUT - Every person needs his or her own driver’s license or other official photo ID, or better yet – a passport. The Immigration people are thinking of admitting only US citizens who have their passports into the USA. That change may be in effect by next June.) You must make your own reservations with the motel. Call 1-585-475-9190. You will be speaking with The Rochester Marketplace Inn, 800 Jefferson Road, Rochester, NY 14623. It was formerly the Rochester Ramada Inn, and is still listed that way in the phone book. Be sure to mention the Sisson Gathering scheduled for June 23 and 24, 2006, and indicate the dates of the nights you wish to reserve. Our room rate is $65 a night. Rooms can be reserved at that price before, during, and after the Gathering. Longer stays permit day-tripping while you explore the area. The Marketplace has free shuttle service to and from the Rochester International Airport and to and from any destination within five miles of the Inn. Get driving maps and directions on the Internet, or just find I-90 (the NY State Thruway). Get off at Exit 46 and come a few miles north on I-390. Exit at NY Route 15A and drive a few yards north to Jefferson Road (NY Route 252). Turn left (west). The Marketplace Inn will be on your right in the second block. Places will be “nominated” for the 2008 Gathering, advantages considered, and the decision made at the last session of the 2006 Rochester Gathering. Previous Sisson Gatherings took place in East Granby, Connecticut in 1994; Sussex, Wisconsin in 1996: Westport, Massachusetts in 1998: Florence, Kentucky, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati in 2000; Kansas City, Missouri in 2002; and Richmond, Virginia in 2004. Please save the dates on your calendar. It ought to be a great Gathering! If you have questions, please write me, David Arne Sisson. Just click on Reply <mailto:dsisson2@rochester.rr.com>. REMEMBER: Make your motel reservations separately from your Gathering registration.

    3. The following article is from [this week's issue of] Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 2006 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. Information about the newsletter is available at http://www.eogn.com. Write a Future E-mail I have often wished that some of my ancestors had written a letter to their descendants. If I could go back in time, I would ask them to include stories about their lives, some of the major events of their time and, oh yes, information about their parents and grandparents. Of course, if it was a worthwhile thought for my ancestors to write such messages, then I should do the same: write a letter for my descendants. Now an online site simplifies the process. FutureMe.org is designed to store e-mail messages and then send them at a future date that you specify. It probably is good for only a few years since you also specify the e-mail address that it is to be sent to. Who knows what the e-mail address will be for great-great-grandchildren? Or if old-fashioned e-mail will even exist in the twenty-second century? This free service is best at sending e-mail reminders to yourself or messages to others within the next few years. I suspect it is an excellent tool for New Year's resolutions: write them down now and tell FutureMe.org to send them to you next December 31. That can serve as a check to see if you really lived up to your resolutions. Of course, you can also send e-mails to other people in the future. The free service is available at http://www.FutureMe.org.

    3. Sebert Sisson's book is no longer in print. I contacted Sebert Sisson a few years ago. He resides in Montgomery County which is south of Roanoke. It's about a 4-hour drive from the Central Shenandoah Valley where I reside. The columns were about slavery and the Sisson family. David and James would be distant cousins of my Sisson ancestors. BLUE DOG TALES: Slavery and the secessionist - part one By Steven Sisson There are many questions that dealing with the Civil War concerning the issues of states' rights and slavery. As an amateur genealogist, I view the history of that era through the words and actions of my ancestors during this time. BLUE DOG TALES: Slavery and the secessionist - part two By Steven Sisson William and Vincent Sisson, the grandsons of Tippecanoe Campaign war veteran Vincent Sisson, had moved to Edgar County, Ill., in the 1840s with their parents from Jefferson County, Ky., to farm in a state free of slavery. But later in the 1850s, William and Vincent Sisson chose to travel as cattle ranch hands with a mesmerizing Ohioan, who was also an abolitionist on his way to settle the Kansas territory. BLUE DOG TALES: Slavery and the secessionist - part three By Steven Sisson War deserters are known as cowards of battle, but the legends behind Sisson's Kingdom are heroic and swashbuckling in nature. Deserters defiled and resisted the Confederate Army advances for several years in Southwest Virginia. It began the spring of 1861. In Floyd County, John Sisson's second cousins - brothers David and James Sisson - had deserted from the Confederate Army ... ----- Original Message ----- From: "C.
