Some acreage in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, including Sisson Pond and the Lawton Valley Reservoir, have been preserved from development. Quoting from the Bristol (RI) Phoenix (newspaper) from June 1, 2006: "The Aquidneck Land Trust closed the largest conservation easement deal ever on Aquidneck Island last Thursday, May 25. First revealed over the summer, the agreement permanently protects 404 acres in Portsmouth and Middletown, property that includes three of Aquidneck Island's seven public water reservoirs and associated buffer lands. It finalizes an effort announced and celebrate last July at a gathering that included Governor Donald Carcieri, officials from Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport, representatives from the Aquidneck Land Trust, and others. Under the pact, the City of Newport conveys a perpetual easement to the Land Trust on an area in Portsmouth and Middletown which includes Lawton Valley Reservoir, Sisson Pond, St. Mary's Pond and buffer lands all owned by the City of Newport." We know through DNA testing that Vincent Sisson is a possible ancestor. I am more excited about this because of the family names James and margaret and the name "Jane", which was mentioned in a casual conversation at one time by my Aunt, a daughter of N.B. and Mary Joyce Sisson. To all Sisson researchers.......During my research of my Louisiana, Mississippi Sisson I have obtained the death certificate of a William L Sisson who died in West Carroll Parish and to know avail have not been able to place him..Below I am enclosing research of this man by another researcher and maybe someone is looking for this link ...Janice Dear Janice, Thanks for sending the death certificate. None have sources, but here is what they say, and they are a good jumping off point: James L. Sisson, b. Aug 1798, Fairfax Co. VA, d. 16 Oct 1871, Jefferson Co. KY, son of Vincent Sisson, b. 1778, Richmond Co. VA and Julia ____, b. abt 1780, Fairfax Co. Married 24 July 1828, Margaret Randolph and had: Effie Sisson, b. 1829, James W. Sisson, b. 1833 Laura Sisson, b. 1841 S. E. Sisson, b. 1843 Unknown Sisson, b. 1846 Continuing: Vincent Sisson, born 1778, Richmond Co. VA, d. after 1850 in KY, married Julia ___ in Fairfax Co. VA. They had five children, James L. being one of them. This same tree says Vincent Sisson was the son of Robert Sisson, b. 1756-1760 in Richmond Co. VA and Sarah "Sally" Washington, b. 1760, VA. Robert died 21 April 1825 in Fairfax Co. VA. Robert was the son of William Sisson, b. abt 1735 in Maryland or Virginia, married Katherine/Catherine. William died after 1782. I have no idea how good the Fairfax and Richmond Co. Virginia records are on the internet. There used to be a Sisson family organization, but I've been out of touch with them for a very long time. I really thank you for putting me onto this research. For years I have wondered who the John Sisson in Henderson Co. was in the 1880 census. I was pretty sure he wasn't my John, but he was a mystery. Now the only mystery is why he was in Henderson Co. at all and why he wasn't a cooper any more. Good luck tracking down the Sissons in Virginia. Susan Jones

Hello Everyone, A last-minute reminder - The Sisson Gathering is planned for the Radisson Hotel in Rochester, New York, on June 22-24. I talked with the woman who handles "special functions" there a few minutes ago, and she tells me that they must "release" the rooms now being saved next Monday, May 22. After Monday, May 22, the $84 rate will no longer be available. What worries me more is that once the rooms are released, it may be difficult for you to book a room there altogether. That weekend is graduation day for many area high schools. Many wedding receptions are planned for that weekend too. This is High Season here in Rochester. If you think you might be coming to the Gathering, now is the time to book your room. The Radisson's phone is 585-475-1910. Be sure to mention the Sisson Gathering and the special $84 room rate. Yours, David Arne Sisson

Earlier mailing will be greatly appreciated. So far the Gathering agenda includes - "early doings" on Thursday, June 22: the Unadilla Trip to see John and Alcha (Crandall) Sisson's graves and the village where many of their descendants lived. - Friday morning, June 23: a side-trip to the Erie Canal - a report on the Sisson "clans" from Virginia and points north and west - a report on our genealogical research for out Sisson roots in Britain - a report on the Sisson DNA Project which is connecting us to our remotest known ancestors and our living cousins - Malcolm Sissons' report on the background of the Sisson surname - the patterns of migration from the east coast to the interior by Professor Darrell Norris - a discussion of possible sites for the 2008 Sisson Gathering. - displays by Sisson researchers: family trees, old photographs, family Bibles, etc. The registration fee will include the Friday and Saturday lunches and Saturday night's dinner and not-to-be-missed "colloquium"! Yours, David Arne Sisson I really hope to see you. Please come.

The 54-year-old Gregory Circle resident was known for her erratic behavior. Neighbors said she was "unbalanced." Even when some peeked outside their homes and saw Anderson holding what looked like a gun, no one suspected what police would later tell them: that Anderson had apparently shot and killed Robert F. and Shirley B. Goerlich. Anderson would later tell Port Orange police: "I hate them . . . they have been torturing me . . . they make me cookies with green mothballs in them and I get sick." The woman was described by neighbors as having "some sort of mental problems." When arrested, she kicked out a window in the squad car that was to carry her to the police station. Linda Sue Anderson, 54, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the couple's deaths. Anderson remains in jail without bail, according to officials from the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, Fla. Shirley B. Goerlich was a well-known genealogist.
