Logansport, Indiana, Pennsylvania Indiana Evening Gazette March 11, 1947 page 10 I found this article in NewspaperArchives. DAD KILLED, BOY, 13, FREED Deputy Sheriff Eugene Burkett said Donald Gene Sisson, 13, was released without charges after shooting and killing his father as the man chased the boy's mother with a shotgun. Burkett and State Trooper, Bernard Leavitt said the mother and her three children told them the father, John R. Sisson, 52, had been drinking since Thursday and became frenzied yesterday. The officers said Sisson was committed to the state hospital for the insane here last November 15, but was paroled to his wife two months ago. Burkett and Leavitt said the family gave this account of the incident. Sisson, after arguing with his wife about entertaining a son, Raymond, at dinner, handed her a 16-gauge shotgun, saying, "before night one of us will be dead and I'm giving you the first shot." After Mrs. Sisson set the gun in the corner, Sisson pushed aside two of the children, Glen Harry 11, and Jack Richard 5, and began fighting with her. Donald ran to the barn and got his .22-calibre rifle and fired four shots at his father as the father seized the shotgun and aimed it at Mrs. Sisson, who ran down the lane. The boy's first two shots missed, but the third hit Sisson's leg and the fourth struck him in the forehead. Donald said he shouted at his father before each shot, warning him not to shoot his mother.
Some of you may be interested in looking at the new stuff on Ancestry.com I found a tax record for 1865 on my great grandfather in Crawford County, Indiana. For the Canadian Sissons, there are quite a few listed Drouin Collection Index for Quebec. There are naturalization records and tax records that have been added recently. Also new are Tennessee marriage records. There are some high school pictures that have been added. Larry L. Sisson
I am currently bidding on a personal item on Ebay of this gentleman and it is my intention to win this auction. Even though I am no relation to AR Sisson, if I do win the auction for this diary/schedule keeper for the year 1960--I will keep it until the family can be found to return it to its rightful owner. Thank you in advance for any clues to further my cause. Kathleen>>>Wm. Sisson of Union County, SC>>>MS>>TX>>OR line

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: SherylGG Surnames: Sisson, Doolittle, Morris, Nichols, Torrey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sisson/376.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have learned a little more about Mary Doolittle Sisson. She died 31 March 1888 in Wyoming Co., NY, age 75. Her probate papers name her nieces and nephews, thus proving that she was the daughter of William & Sarah (Barnum) Doolittle. Her siblings were Lovica Doolittle who married DeWitt Clinton Morris, Orris Doolittle who married Angeline ____, & Susan Pettibone Doolittle who married Charles D. Nichols. I am seeking further information about these individuals as well as Marvin Sisson's parents & siblings. Also, seeking any information about son William Sisson. He may have been William's son by an earlier marriage, rather than by Mary, as neither he nor his children were named in Mary's probate papers. William married Cora A. Torrey. They appear to have had children Frank Sisson, Madge Sisson, Maude Sisson. Any information on these folks would be greatly appreciated. Dear Sisson cousins, I'm sad to share with you news of the passing of my grandmother Carrie Sisson Marx. She was an 11th generation direct descendant of Richard and Mary Sisson (Lloyd Miller, Sanford L., Luther S., Thomas, George, George, George, Richard, George, Richard). She was born Carrie Haverly Sisson to Lloyd M. Sisson and Nellie Lee Haverly on August 22, 1912 in West Berne, NY. Following a brief illness, she passed away at approximately 10:30am on May 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Hilltop nursing home in Johnson City, NY. She lived to the ripe old age of 95 with all 3 of her brothers, her husband and their only daughter predeceasing her. I'll be sure to post her obituary once we have it completed. Carol, may I send you her revised information so it may be updated on the Sisson genealogy web site? Robin

Recently, a collection of old family photos, letters, and assorted papers was mistakenly sold. These are photos and papers of the family of Elbert Alanson Sisson (1851-1915) (descendant of Richard and Mary Sisson of Rhode Island) and his son Frederick James Sisson (1879-1949) and Frederick's wife Grace McCormick Sisson (1886-1958) and others in the family. It would be nice if these photos and papers could be retrieved. I will keep a watch out for them on ebay. If you see these for sale in an antique shop, please notify the list, and if you can buy them there, let me know and I'll reimburse you. Thanks to you all, Carol Sisson Regehr Sisson-L list mom -- cregehr@yahoo.com

This project was a labor of love as well as a technological challenge. Over 6,000 photographs of The Wall in Washington, D.C. were taken by photographer Peter Krogh. After viewing and sorting through the photos, nearly 1,500 of the highest quality photos were stitched together creating one of the largest photos found on the Internet. This interactive version of the Wall has been a gathering place for friends, family, and survivors to add their thoughts, memories, comments, and photos. At the March 26 press conference, Footnote CEO Russ Wilding said, "We hope this will be a means for healing and paying tribute...to those who sacrificed for our country." The Vietnam Wall on Footnote is offered free of charge to all who visit. Not sure if I have submitted this before but am wondering if anyone can identify this gentleman --N.B. SISSON--since he is not currently one of mine. I tripped across him while searching census records for the state of Georgia. If anyone is interested or if this is your Sisson, I will gladly send a copy of this census via email. Just say the word! Thursday, March 13, 2008 Civil War battlefields threatened by 'sprawl' THE ASSOCIATED PRESS http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ/MGArticle/WSJ_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1173354946932 Give your opinion on this story WASHINGTON The site of the single bloodiest day in American history is under siege - threatened by a 120-foot cell-phone tower, says a preservation group. The vast field in western Maryland is where the Battle of Antietam was fought on Sept. 17, 1862. It is one of the 10 most endangered Civil War battlefields, according to an annual report released yesterday from the Civil War Preservation Trust. The list includes historic sites in Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arkansas, Georgia and Tennessee. In almost all cases, it is suburban sprawl that threatens these battlefields, said Jim Lighthizer, the president of the trust. Were not against development, but were for thoughtful, sensitive growth that takes cognizance of the assets in the community. The Battle of Antietam ended Gen. Robert E. Lees first attempt to invade the North. It resulted in nearly 23,000 casualties - about 3,700 killed, 17,300 wounded, and 1,800 captured or missing. The trust says that the site is almost devoid of visual intrusions, giving visitors a sense of the battlefield as it was in 1862. Another worry for the trust is the Cedar Creek Battlefield in Virginia, where Confederate Lt. Gen. Jubal Early attacked Union forces in the fall of 1864. The trust says that the site is facing the expansion of limestone mining, possible widening of Interstate 81 and the proposed inclusion in a plan to expand power-line construction. Intense development pressure in the Richmond area is the reason that the Cold Harbor battlefield is on the list. The 1864 battle saw entrenched Confederate forces repel repeated attacks from a Union army nearly twice its number. The other endangered sites on the list are Perryville, Ky.; Prairie Grove, Ark.; Hunters-town, Pa.; Monocacy, Md.; Natural Bridge, Fla.; Savannah, Ga., and Spring Hill, Tenn. The trust is the nations largest nonprofit battlefield preservation group.
