This week Ancestry completed most of the revisions of Rootsweb Mailing Lists. It’s great to have the lists available again! Since it’s been many months since we were able to share information, I’d like everyone to post something about your Sipes research to get us started. Linda Pazics Kleback Sipes List Administrator

You should have received an email from Rootsweb by now detailing the fact that they are changing list software and the mailing lists will be migrated over by groups. When the lists are migrated you SHOULD receive a new standard welcome letter for this list, but the new system doesn't seem to be sending these out. I will also let you know when our list gets moved to the new server, just in case you don't get your welcome letter. As the lists are migrated over, you will no longer have to add the -L when sending an email to the list. You only need to address your email as XXXX@rootsweb.com with XXXX being replaced with the name of the list. FOR AOL USERS: After these lists are migrated it is imperative for AOL users to check your Spam folders. If you find list mail there then please be sure to CLICK THE *THIS IS NOT SPAM* link to send the list mail to the inbox. It is VERY important to help train the filters and let AOL know that this new server can be trusted. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and we will figure it out together. Thanks for your patience during this migration to the new server, Linda Pazics Kleback List Administrator

I've been working on the Sipes family, too. I descend from Tobias Riley Sipes, son of Jacob Sipes, Jr. I've been trying in vein to find a name for his mother but was extremely happy to find this will posted here as it proves the relationship between Jacob and Tobias without a doubt and it also gives the name of a daughter that I did not have before, Mary, and the name of her husband! Every little piece helps! There is a John and Mary Peck living in Ayr Twp., Fulton Co., PA in 1880. Mary was age 55, so would have been born abt. 1825. Certainly sounds like our gal! Many, many thanks! Jennifer

Surnames: Sipes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RgHBAEB/318 Message Board Post: According to published genealogies, Tobias Riley Sipes was the son of Jacob Sipes (1803-1887). Most of these have Nancy Lodge as his mother, however, this couple was not married until 1833. This begs the question, who was Tobias' mother? Just wondering if anyone out there has had this same question or better yet, have an answer to it! I don't doubt that Jacob was Tobias' father, only that Nancy was his mother. Here are some census records that show that Jacob had a male child living with him that matches the age Tobias would have been in each given year. 1830 US Census - Belfast Twp., Bedford Co., PA Jacob Sipes Jr. (age 20-29) 1 male age 5-9 (Tobias) 1 male age 20-29 3 females age 0-4 1 female age 20-29 1840 US Census - Licking Creek Twp., Bedford Co., PA Jacob Sipes (age 30-39): 1 male age 0-4 (Mason) 1 male age 15-19 (Tobias) 1 female age 0-4 (Susan) 2 females age 10-14 1 female age 15-19 1 female age 30-39 1850 US Census - Licking Creek Twp., Fulton Co., PA (Family #137) Jacob Sipe - head, age 47, farmer, b. Sipes - age 22 Minerva Sipes - age 19 Note: All born in PA. 1870 US Census - Licking Creek Twp., Fulton Co., PA, pg. 4, Family #27 Jacob Sipes - age 63, b. PA Annie Sipes - age 37, b. PA, Keeping House Sarah A. Sipes - age 13, b. PA 1880 US Census - Licking Creek Twp., Fulton Co., PA, page 48A Jacob Sipes - head, age 76, retired farmer, b. PA, parents b. PA Susan Sipes - wife, age 47, keeping house, b. PA, parents b. PA This also shows that Tobias had three sisters that I have not been able to find names for. Most importantly though, I'd like to find a record of Jacob's first marriage or something that would state her name. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks.
