Can anyone help fill in the blanks, PLEASE!!!! From what I understand, gg grandpa Jesse Sinks married Mahala Emeline King on August 12, 1860 in Hamilton (I don't know yet if it is county or city) IL. They had John (maybe called James) Lewis and Susie. Jesse was sent to the Civil War in the 60th Regiment Co D and listed himself as being from Lovilla. He never returned from the civil war. His papers say he was "mustered out in 1865" but in Grandma Hogues bio, she states over and over that Jesse never saw his son John Lewis Sinks because he was "killed in the war" So sometime between being mustered out and returning home, he died. John Lewis married Mary Ellen Williams sometime in the early 1900's. He was married to a lady named Burton before Mary Ellen, but she and all three of their children died of Diptheria. John and Mary Ellen had one Daughter, Margaret Lucille Sinks (who is my husbands grandmother and is now deceased) Mary Ellen was the daughter of Elisha Riley Williams and Margaret Josephine Gordon who owned a brick masonry and grocery store in downtown Mt. Vernon. All 4 of these family members are buried in Oakwood Cemetery. But that is where I am stuck, big time!! I have this feeling that Jesse was married before Mahala, but don't know to who. I also cannot find out where he is buried or Mahala is. I know she died of cancer, but that is it. I also don't know wether or not she remarried. Grandma said over and over, that Mahala "raised the children without any help" and died after they were grown. So please if you could help, I would be so so sos so greatful. I would be even more excited if you have pictures. I have written to so many people with Sinks ties, and they have said, there is no connection, but after talking to someone, I am very convinced that the Sinks, expecially the ones that were in Hamilton and Jefferson Counties, were related. We just have to fill in that line. HELP!! Thanks in Advance! Beth Noble
