The handwriting on this last record from Jesse's War of 1812 file is difficult to read: State of Tennessee County of Montgomery Personally appeared before me Sam A Nesbitt an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid, Anna Sinks, and after being duly sworn according to law declared that she is unable to prove by Public Record her Marriage to her late husband, Jesse Sinks, she having applied for Public Record proof without effect. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 22nd day of August A.D. 1854. Sam A. Nesbitt Justice of the Peace Anna (X her mark) Sinks State of Tennessee County of Montgomery Personally appeared before me Sam A. Nesbitt an Acting Justice of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid, Drury Sinks and Emily Cross and after being duly sworn according to law, declares that they were personally present at the marriage of Jesse Sinks and Anna Whittington (now Anna Sinks), that said Marriage was celebrated in the county and state aforesaid by one Francis Caster, Justice of the Peace on or about the 5th day of July in the year, A.D. 1820. And they for her declare that Anna Sinks is the widow of Jesse Sinks deceased, and that she has been a widow ever since his decease, that they have been acquainted with the said Anna Sinks since the death of her late husband Jesse Sinks and have not heard of her marriage a circumstance, which, if it has occurred they certainly would have been apprised of--therefore they are confident of the fact that she is and has been a widow as before stated by and sworn to and subscribed before me this 22nd day of August A.D. 1854 Sam A Nesbitt Justice of the Peace State of Tennesee County of Montgomery Sam A. Nesbitt Personally appeared before me an acting Justice of the Peace, in, and for the county and State aforesaid Absalom Swift, John M. Thomason, and Wm. Hicks and after being duly sworn according to Law, declared that Jesse Sinks, late husband of Anna Sinks, died at his home in the county and state aforesaid On the 24th day of December 1844, that they are not interested int he claim for Bounty Land for which she is applying or its proceeds. Thompson [different spelling] and William Hicks named affiants are purported of respectable standing in society, worthy of credit and belief in any court of Jurisdiction or Record; Given from under my hand and official signature the 22nd day of August A.D. 1854.
