Chanches are he is son of Peter who was in Tn abt time of his birth 1819. Pope Co Ill 1850 census; I mentioned the kids living with him, (his sister Susans kids) I think I remember a George W. Sinks in county with him abt his age; and some Hillmans. So this Jesse possibly had married #1 Elizabeth Beard, #2 Sarah unk, and #3 Mahala King in 1860 and divorced. I'm not sure but the Jesse and Zach in Civil War in same unit might be brothers. Mahala King was dau of Mary Williams and Elijah Riley King, right? Lafayette Sinks son William (married a Williams) had son name Elijah Riley Sinks so the kin is obvious. Lafayettes grandpa Peter Sinks had remarried to a Mrs. Mary Williams. When Jesse Sinks unit mustered out he could been missing or dead as he didn't have to be there when unit disbanded. His family says he died in the Civil War so thats what happened. I put him as son to my Peter Sinks for now. Possibly Paul Powell Sinks Sr had a son that settled in Ind. that had a son name Jesse (born 1822) who married Susan Sink. Susans dad Peter did live in Ind for a while, so maybe he had a brother there. If this is correct then Jesse Sinks (died 1844) may have had a son that we need to find, remember the 1820 census. Jesse also was in War of 1812 as researched by his decendants. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello, Can you tell me if Andrew "Drewry" Sinks born abt 1810 in VA or TN and married Delilah Hickerson in 1830 is a brother to your Powell Sinks? James Monroe Sinks, son of Andrew and Delilah, is a gr-grandfather to me. James M. Sinks married Susan Baggett and their daughter, LouElla is my paternal grandmother. Jo Kester Jesse Sinks Va? settled Tn Zachariah Va. to Ham Co Ill died Iowa Henry Va? to Ham Co Ill & (where? not much research) Peter to Ham Co Ill, (mine/moved around a bit) Powell Jr Va to Ham Co Ill, & Mo Jesse stayed in Tn and has been researched by his descendants. I think Zach born 1806 Va was his son, can't see where else Zach came from. I think Zachariah had to be 21 to buy land, not sure. I don't think the other Tn county Sinks are kin to Paul like John, Jacob, and Joseph; I haven't had time to see how old they are, state of birth for parents etc. As for the daughers there are the uncommon names passed to decendants like, Kiziah, Rhoda, Fronica/Frony/Fordonna, Evelyn and the name Martha was passed down, and I still think a Martha was Paul Sr wife name. Hopefully we can add more children. I think it was Madaline Roberts who sent me info one time on Peter Sink being in Mont. Co Tn in 1819 on his account with Lockert & Smith. Maybe Peter in 1820 was in Indiana... I'll get back to the name Jesse soon. We don't know what year Jesse came to Tn but in 1806 timeframe crops failed in NC and people headed for Tn. I think Zach P. (Paul) Sinks born 1812 Tn had to be son of Jesse.

William Sinks, the genial proprietor of the hotel of Wilson, Wisconsin, is one of the honored pioneers of the Kickapoo vally. He was born at St. Louis, Missouri, in 1830, a son of Powell and Mary (Clavel) Sinks, natives of Tn and Ky respectively; the parents came to St. Louis in 1827, and there spent the remainder of thier lives, the mother died in 1843, and the father survived her ten years. (Her name should be Sarah Ann Clavell, his wife was Mary; his father lived about 14 years longer.) William passed his youth in his native city until he was sixteen, when he secured employment on a steamer plying between St. Louis and New Orleans, he was on the river two years and was in New Orlean in 1849 when the cholera broke out in this country; he came up the river to Prairie du Chien, walked to the mouth of the Kickapoo, and thence to Boydstown, Crawford County; where he secured work, and split rails for $16.00 a month. (for a short while) In 1870 he built the hotel at Ontario, which he conducted with merited success until 1877, when the property was destroyed by fire. Having no insurance he lost everything. He went after this misfortune to Minnesota and took up a tree claim of 160 acres; he planted the trees required by law, proved up, and still owns the land; and the end of one year he returned to this county, built a hotel at Wilton, and is now managing this hostelry, a very popular resort of the traveling public. Mr. Sinks was married July 11, 1853, to Miss Mary A. Day, a daughter of Travis and Emma (Adkins) Day. Note; They had six children; George, went to St. Paul, Minnesota Amanda Henry C. Luther J. I have never heard of a Jr with a different middle name, if they are Jr the name is the exact and thats why both of these used the Paul and Powell name. The George W. Allen John Stewart Joshua Ward Note; This paper is actually dated May 7, 1824 and William Hankins was a Rev War soldier and so was his father Capt. Daniel Hankins. I think Martha wanted to buy and Jesse took her to the sale and since they each bought tells me the stuff went to two differnt homes. I think Martha was related to some of the buyers from this sale and related to some who bought in 1826 from the Powell Sinks Sr estate. I checked on some of these to see if the surnames used is given names for Sinks decendants is related, like Russell, Hartwell, Warren; and Wilmoth and Harrison are surnames but not in Sinks decendants. Some of these connect with Powell Sinks estate papers 2 years later in 1826. These related by marriage to each other; Hankins, Rogers, Wilmoth, Austin, Dawson, Marable, Hartwell, Watson, Slaton, Rye, Ward, and Russell. I saw the Warren name connected but don't remember where I saw it. I think its more than coincidence that Sinks bought from these two families in Dick. and Mont. co! unties and Martha is probably from one of these families and thats why the Tn decendants used the Hartwell, Russell and Warren names for there sons. Drury Atkins is Adkins and was from Pittsylvania Co Va and and married Lettitia Slayden. John Rye was born in NC. John Marable kin to the senator and rep name Marable Joshua Ward married Jane Harrison in Berkeley Co Va in 1815 and thats all thats known of him. The Harrison, Payne, Underwood, and Richardson allied families go way back to early Goochland Co. Va. Tho the Richardsons not mentioned in sales, the Tn Sinks married one and Dickson Co Tn Will Book A 1804-1856 has Richardsons in it. The book on those families is called "Lick Creek Beckened." My local library is being remodeled and I can't do genealogy yet, they said it will be a few months. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: LaylaCries Surnames: Sinks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/137/mb.ashx Message Board Post: >From LDS FamilySearch but the page came from Lineages; Research Calendar, 13 Mar 2006 Scource and Comments "Tennessee Wills & Administrations 1779-1861" indicated that Powell Sinks' administrator's settlement is located in Book A page 88 of Dickson Co records. Dickson County (Tennessee). County Clerk. Accounts of insolvent estates, 1860-1896, administrator's bonds and letters, 1912-1966, dentist registers, 1891-1945, etc. FHL film no. 497183. Administrator's settlements Apr 1823-Feb. 1860. Microreproduction of manuscript and typescript. Located and copied the record listing Powell Sinks. Here is the names of buyers from his estate; John Adams John Daniel James Daniel Joseph Austin Joseph Lisle, pronounced Liles Howard Turner William Underwood Eleanor Parrish, married John S. Spencer 24 Jan 1829 Dickson Co Tn Henry Marable (think his grandpa was George Marable, and grandma was Mary Hartwell, Hartwell being in the family given names of Sinks descendants later in the Tn line.) Rody Payne, think she was Powells daughter as Rhoda was a name in Sinks decendants in the Tn line. Powell Sinks Jr Zachariah Sinks, (bought 50 acres of land) Henry Sinks Elizabeth Sinks, (Powell Jr wife from Lisle family?) Notice Jesse Sinks not listed as a buyer. Notice Martha Sinks not listed, think she was Powell Sr wife and died after 1824 and before Powells death. She wasn't Jesse Sinks wife, he had remarried to Anna Whittington in 1817 unless she was wife of Zach or Henry Sinks I don't know but I'll get to her in next post. I'm thinking Jesse took care of Powell and what ever he wanted from the estate the siblings let him have before the sale like cows, wagon, etc. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
