My cousin is going to try and find my grandma's family bible and let me know what it says in there hoping I will get more information on Sena and George. I do have a copy of George and Sena's marriage cert. they married in 1885. Richard Thomason George's brother was present and married them so he must have been a minster. Peter Thomason was also there, Richard's son I believe. We also know that Richard named his daughter Sena. I have a copy of a death cert. for David..died in Ky born in 1852 and died in 1922 son of James Sinks from TN and Mary Hall from Pa. I don't know if this is the same David but it does make seem that it would be. My grandfather Lemuel and his sister Edith, we believe were Sena and George's only children together. There were more children but by different mothers. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Ar403 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/160.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am interested in Sena/Senna/Cena because I have seen her linked to Powell Sinks and I am researching Powell. My husband decends from Powell's son Peter. I have been looking but have not found anything concrete that links Sena to Powell. Other researchers out there have put them together in their trees but I do not think the Sena Sinks who married Goerge Thomason is Powell's daughter. I think she is the daughter of James and Mary Polly Sinks. In 1860 the family of James and Polly Sinks appears in the federal census living in Wayne County Illinois. Sena's name is spelled Ceina and her year of birth is 1849 - but I wonder if that is right because she never appears that old again in other census records. She is listed with siblings: Davis/d, Sally, Elizabeth and Ellen. In 1870 Mary Sinks is is listed as head of household and has two children with her - Sena and "Eddie". James is gone and Mary is listed as insane. David Sinks is just a page or so away living as a farm laboror in the household of Abner Hill. I will look through my notes when I get home because I am pretty sure I have more on James and Mary/Polly Sinks. Powell Sinks was likely in Tennesse when James was supposedly born (1825) so it is possible that James is Powell's son, and therefore Sena's grandfather - but Powell had another son named James and I kind of doubt he'd name two the same. I think James may be the son of Zachariah Sinks - I'll report back when I have gone through my notes. Hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I believe the Stephens' boy in the Suddarth's home is probably related to the Henry Stephens in the Shell household. I have not found any connection between the Sinks and Stephens families although there could be one. It is even possible that Cora is the daughter of Sena and Henry - I wouldn't rule anything out. Paul Powell Sinks Jr (his uncle) was in Wayne Co Mo and was picked up by Jesse Sinks (died Stoddard Co Mo bfr 1880) They went on to St Louis together taking Jesses son Lafayette with them. Lafayette said when they got to St Louis he had three old aunts full blood Indians that kept talking about the great earthquake of 1811/12. I had been told they are Osage and I was told they were Mandan. I think one of Powells wives, Sarah Clavell (probably not) or Roxanna Crow was the Indian family. Who ever the family were they were born in St Louis before the earthquake. Roxanna I think I saw somewhere had a twin sister. (family story passed down) Lafayette Sinks of Hamilton Co Ill. married Sydney Mandrell, she was 1/4 Cherokee. (family story passed down) Lafayette Sinks son (from his first marriage) William married into a Cherokee family. That info came from Troy Sims research on the families of Williams, Green, Jordan of Hamilton Co Ill. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: LaylaCries Surnames: Sinks, Lowry, Taylor Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/158/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Free Will God knew he couldn't be called a dictator and if the angels had no choice of serving him or not then he would be a dictator. So He gave the angels free will and God created the Seed of Evil and let it float around heaven until the appointed time when he knew that Lucifer would partake of the seed and turn some angels against God to follow himself. And when they did fall from grace they were thrown out of heaven by God and dwell in space until the earth was created then they dwell there also. God is holy and could not allow disobediance in heaven. When God created man he was giving a free will, a mind to make choices with. God told Adam and Eve not to eat fruit of one of the trees but they used thier free will and chose to disobey. Therefore sin entered into the human race but God is innoscent of being called a dictator because man has a choice and is not forced to serve God. This is what I was told when I was a child by a decendant out of Hamilton Co Ill. and surrounding area. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. And I'm wondering if the Paul Sink was him that bought land in Ill? He probably is buried where ever his kin were being buried in Jeff Co Ill. The Powell that bought land in St. Charles Mo was nephew to your Powell, m 1st Sarah Clavel, 2nd Roxeanna Crow Powell Sr m unk wife, died 1826 Dickson Tn (Rev War) is father to your Powell Jr Then Andrew stayed in Tn and also had a Powell; this Powell m 1st Nancy unk, 2nd Sallie Hunt, and probably all of them were first name Paul. So Jr is the one you want and I can't find his record of marriage to Eliza Lile; 2nd Mary Story, 3rd Louisa McCoy. Srs decendants with mid initial of P like Zach P, George P, Simon P. are probably all middle name Powell. I think we haven't found all the kids that belong to Sr and Jr yet. Those in Tn did a good job on Andrews line (m Hickerson), and Maureen did a good on her Powells line, so I think its ok to connect them. I'm going to try to find more on those of the early St. Louis Mo line that no one is working on; and also we should have some early Ky kin judging from what my late grandpa told me. I saw the bio on George W Sinks as well, listing his parents as Powell and Elizabeth Lile Sinks. Ther eis a dicorce record for Powell and Elizabeth in the 1840s in Illinois - off the top of my head I think it was Jefferson County. Then Elizabeth is on her own in the 1850 census and three of the children are living with her - William, George W and Harriet. This is Elizabeth Lile because that George is the same George in the bio. I don't know what happened to that William. George is well documented - very findable in future census records and in that bio. I think Harriet may have gone on to marry Elisha Lowry. There is a marriage record to that effect and the dates llok reasonable. Then I think Powell went on to marry Mary Story - although we can not find a marriage record. I am researching Peter Sinks, the son of Powell and Mary. and I have a copy of his marraige record as well as two of his brothers - who based on the date of Powell's subsequent marraige to Lousia Mc Coy, should have belonged to Powell and Louisa, but the parents listed on the marriage record are Powell and Mary. The plot thickens... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The record is of Powell as surity for Elizabeth Sink to Wm. Fleet; possibly his daughter and named after her mother.I still don't have a marriage record for Paul Powell Sink/Sinks except what I found at thier sons bio at Henry Co Mo. and that can serve as proof, as many courthouses burned. I did put Paul and Elizabeth (Lyle) Sinks at genealinks a couple of years ago, but I hit a brickwall and haven't done family history for a couple years; and before then I spent a couple of years volunteering genealogy for others; including extracting newspaper records which I added the deaths of over 500 Rev War vets mostly of New York. Julia may have been orphaned during the cholera epidemic in 1873. There is a narrative that described the event in Kentucky (and surrounding areas) and specifically mentions that a "Mr and Mrs Sink" -who had a young child - did die. It does not mention what happened to the child. We think it is likely that she was Julia Sink(s) who married Benjamin Decocq. She may have been raised by a Collins family. The Sink orphan from the cholera couple would be related to Judith C Jessop Rogers Benton. Judith Jessop married Philip Rogers and was widowed. She then married again to Benton, and was widowed again by 1870. The Mrs Sink in the cholera narrative is said to have been the daughter of Mrs Benton, but she was probably a "Rogers". She could have been one of at least five daughters the Rogers had. I think this child was most likely the daughter of Sarah Rogers and somebody Sink(s). Thanks again!
