The Sinks family is really hard to put them all together. I have been trying to find out who Sylvia Sinks was married to. I kind of thought it was Powell. Is there more then one Powell? Thanks, for passing this along every little bite helps put this family together. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was charged with adultery, which is no surprise since it is more than evident that he was with more than one woman at a time, and more than once. I was hoping for more info but thought I'd pass this little bit on. Records are from Jefferson Co, Illinois,1853. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The reason I have been wondering, I find my James Thomason with a wife Louisa age 19 in the 1860 census. They are living next door to James Sinks. James Sinks is my great-great-Grandfather but I can't figure out who was his father and mother. It doesn't mean the Louisa with James Thomason is a Sinks but I just thought that she might be. James Thomason is my great-great-uncle. I have searched high and low for James Sinks in the 1850 census but can't find him. Awhile ago I spent some time looking at these Sinks - Lowery marriages trying to figure out who may have belonged to Powell Sinks and his wife Elizabeth Lyle Sinks. She was his first or second wife and he went on to marry or be otherwise involved with two other women, Mary Story and Louisa McCoy. I know Powell and Elizabeth had at least three children: William, George and Harriett. William appears on the 1850 census with his mother and then I lose him. George married Mildred Lambert and is fairly well documented. Harriett married Elisha Lowery. There were obviously more children born to Powell and Elizabeth, and they were probably born in Tennesee. The 1840 census lists another girl 10-20 years and several boys but clearly they moved out/ were married off before 1850 and therefore are not listed in their mother's household. I believe additional children MAY include: Julia Ann Sinks who married David Lowery Elizabeth Sinks who married William Lowery - but I think she is probably more likely the daughter of Zachariah & Sylvia Sinks. Nancy Sinks (yes, she is definitely a Sinks)who married Alexander Lowery (they had a son they named Powell but that doesn't necesaarily mean the older Powell is Nancy's father) but I have seen other researchers place her with Zachariah & Sylvia Sinks. Let me see what I have on Louisa, born abt 1841 - I think she is probably Zachariah's daughter. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I find her in Jefferson Co, Ill 1850 at the age of 9 living with the Alexander Lowery family. I believe she may have married James Thomason but have not been able to prove it. I see many of the Sinks women married Lowery men. So I kind of think Nancy Lowery, Alexander's wife may be a Sinks also. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. McNew on June 25, 1893. (br's parents, Charley Sinks & wf., give consent; md. at Asherville.) Then there's: 27 May 1889 Charles Sinks - Marriage to Mary E.Sinks (gr. of Duck Creek Twp.; br. resides with Thos. Hillman as family and gives consent as she has no parents or Gdn. : Married at Bloomfield.) I don't know if Mary Sinks may be Cora's sister. Or if this Cora is the same Cora with James and Rebecca Suddarth. The David Sinks I have is the brother of Sena Sinks and their parents are James Sinks and Mary Hall. James died in the Civil war and Mary was listed as insane. I found a listing of the marriage on 21 Aug 1892 Z. Sinks - Sarah Short. I believe all the Sinks in Ill and Mo are all related but I'm not sure how. James Sinks and Mary Hall's children were: Sena David Ellen Elizabeth Sally Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It's been awhile for me too. I hope to have more time in the summer for this. I have gathered quite a bit of info on this particular Sink/s family recently (George W Sink & Susan Buel Hodge Sink). I think they were probably separated in 1870 and she was widowed by 1880. I don't think they ever divorced, although it is possible, because she filed for his pension as his widow. I think George W may have gone across state lines and married Virginia Rogers in McCracken County KY and may then have died with her in the cholera epidemic there in 1873. Trying to confirm that scenario now. George Sink married Susan A E Hodge (maiden name Buel) in Pope co IL on 27 Jun 1848. She was the widow of Samuel Hodge whom she married in Pope Co on 10 May 1838. Their children were: Nancy Jane Sink Mary Christiana Sink Jessie Edmonia Sinks William Francis Sink I know that Jessie went on to marry William Burnett on 23 Dec 1875 in Pope Co. and William F married Ona Etta Cox. He died in Yuma AZ. I have not been able to figure out who George belongs to. That's that Sinks black whole timeframe that we all get stuck in - and he could belong to any number of Sinks.
