    1. [SINKS] SINK--SINKS--ZINK--ZINCK---DATA
    2. Lewis's Email
    3. The ZINCK--ZINK--SINK--SINKS as researched and published by Col. Calvin Kephart are of German origin, an account of the founding of the Zincks family is given in Col. Calvin Kephart's book, HERR VOLNANT VON ERLACH, MINNESSINGER. Col. Kephart is an authority on German derivations. He is a former officer of the National Genealogical Society " A minnesinger was one of a class of lyric poets and musicians who flourished in Duetachland from the 12th to the 14th century; they were mostly nobles and wrote and sang of love and beauty" (page 25). The line of Zincke is traced from Harold Lkak (cira 784-850), last Skioldung king of Denmark (page 8) as follows; the son of Harald was Count Gofred (c.814-885), his son was Count Wermund (c.842-885) (page 9), his son was Count Godfred of Real (born ca. 879) , ( page 10), hhis son was Count Warmundus, whose son was Warmund, followed by another Warmound, then by Godfred (born ca. 980, was the Duke of Savaria) (page 11). This Godfred, Duke of Baveria, had a broyher, Harald de Raeut of (ca. 986-1045) (page 12), who had a son Godfred who married a daughter of Dominus Volcnant de Hohenhart. Their son Hugibert (c.1030-1100) ( page 13) married a daughter of Count Henricus, thereby adding additional Merovingian and Carolingian royal blood to that of the Danish in his family . Hugibert's son Henderic (ca 1054-1099), married a dfaughter of Dominus de Randersacker, also a family apparently decended from Danish Viking leaders. Their son Henricus ll(ca. 1076-1147), was the father of Volcanandus III (ca. 1110-1150), a knightly ministerial. His son Volcnant IV (ca. 1140-1175) was the father of Volcnant V (de Eracch)), of Rennweg, born about 1168 (page 19). He was a famous poet and also skilled in playing the medieval cornet, knowm as the zincke. Volcnant V had several sons, one being Godefridus, who had two sons Nicholas and Volkelinus, perhaps others. Nicholas had a son Nicholas sur named Zingge, born about 1238, migrated to and established the Zingg line in canton Luzern, Switzerland (page 28). Nicholas Sr,s brother Volkel-inus had several sons, surnamed von Herr-Zincken. One was Frederich von Herrn-zincken (page 24) anoyher was Herrn-Zincken. One was Frederich von Herrn-Zincken (page 24), another was Fritz von Herrn-Zincken (page 28) Going back to the famous minnesinger, Volcnant V, another of his sons was Henricus, surnamed Cinko (Zincke-Zingge), born about 1202 (page 22), who became chief magistrate of Kolitzheim. In 1251 Henrich Zincke moved to Wurtemburg. One of his sons was Cinradus, another was Berrrrthold (page 270 , another was Walther, named in honor of the great poet and friend of his grandfather Volcnant V. This Walther had a son Walther II, who in turn was father if Walther III, who established a vineyard manor named Zinggenhf at Stetten. Thers several Zinckes left many decendents in Germany and Switzerland. "All Duetsch and Swiss samilies surnamed Zincke or Zingge and their variants from medieval times apparently originated in this Erach stock, decending from Minnesinger Volcnant through several branches.

    3. Does anyone have any information on Douglas SINKS of Stoddard County Missouri? He is listed as Head of Houshold on the 1910 Stoddard County, Missouri Census. His wife is listed as Bessie, a son Cecil and another son listed as Grove[ I think] Also listed with them as a niece, is Maggie HILLMAN. The reason I am interested in this family is that my GGGrandmother Nancy Ann HILLMAN, married John A. JAMES, 1882, in Stoddard County, MO. The mother of Nancy Ann HILLMAN was Susan SINKS daughter of Peter SINKS and Susanah BECKNER of Jefferson and Hamilton County, Illinois. Rich Johnson. - ---------------------------------- Richard A. 2. Hello List, this is for Sandra and possibly anyone who can help either of us. Sandra, The farthest back I have right now is 1855 Hamilton Co. Illinois That is when my GreatGrandfather was born. His father and mother are still unknown to me except for their names; Powell SINKS and Mary STORY. They had 3 sons. And 2 were born in MO. While the oldest was born in Hamilton Co. Illinois. And I am still having trouble finding where in MO they were from. I have alot of information on my GreatGrandmothers family from Tenn. But, no Idea of the SINKS line. Except I do believe they were aliens from another planet. LOL. >From what I gather from the information I recieved from "Larry Kennedy" is that one of the brothers moved to LA. But that had to be after 1884. That was when he married a HART gal. So I have no idea if any of that helps you out. I just know really nothing of the family before 1855. I really wish I did. Sorry. Maureen

    3. Maureen, I'm sorry I can't help with that , but your posting has gotten my attention due to the fact that your Sinks ancestors were in Mississippi. I have some Sinks ancestors in Louisiana , and am having a terrible time tracking them. I'm wondering if there could possibly be some connection , as it seems there weren't many Sinks wwho migrated to this area of the country. My first known Sinks ancestor was a JACOB SINKS who was married to a woman named CATHERINE ( I feel strongly that her surname was Fewell). They migrated to Louisiana , I think by way of Pendleton County , KY , and were in Feliciana Parish , LA by 1812 , when Jacob was on the roster of War of 1812 soldiers. Jacob appears on the 1820 East Feliciana Parish census with a wife and a number of children, all female except for one male child. Their daughter , NANCY SINKS , born 25 March 1808 in Kentucky , married THOMAS BENNETT in Amite County , MS on 11 March 1824. NANCY SINKS is my direct line ancestor. Another daughter , SARAH SINKS , married HARDY BRIAN ( BRYAN , BRYANT) , on 17 Jan. 1818 in Feliciana Parish , LA. Another daughter , MARY ANN SINKS , married JOHN LEBO on 18 March 1831 in Natchitoches Parish , LA. I am unable to find JACOB SINKS on any other census records in LA until 1850 , when he appears as a 72 year old laborer , born in Virginia. At that point , he has no family listed with him. I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me on your Sinks family -- even if there appears to be no tie-in. I am really desperate here , and feel like any bit of information might be a clue. I am posting this query to the entire SINKS list rather than just to Maureen personally , in case anyone out there might be able to help me. Thanks so much. 2. Hello all, I am hoping someone can help me. I was in GenForum today. A site I have not been into for awhile. But anyway, I found response to a query I made. And when I read it I went crazy. It is a relative. But I went to send him an e-mail and it bounced back stating there was no one at that address by that name. Well, now what. I have been unable today to Respond to his message because GenForum is updating its equipment and they are not accepting queries for awhile. So here is my question, I am looking for a "Larry Kennedy" used to be connected with bellatlantic.com. He is researching the SINKS family from Hamilton Co. Ill. And he posted some great information about James SINKS. who is my GGGranduncle. And I would love to get ahold of him. Can anyone help. If you know of Larry Kennedy please send me his e-mail address or e-mail him and let him know I am looking for him. Thank You Very Much Maureen

    3. I. Nicholas Sinks was in Clermont County Ohio by 1802. His son Nicholas names a nephew Israel R C Waters aka Clausen Waters and a brother Edward in his will. The History of Clermont County Ohio mentions that 12 June 1805, Nicholas resided in the house in which it was decided to use one room for court. he agreed to furnish benches, etc. *From page 43 in the History, we have reference to a letter written 20 July 1900 from Williamsburg, mentioning the 'celebrated innkeeper Nicholas Sinks whose grandson 'an awful swell' is at Columbus as private secretary to the governor.' The book later mentions that the Sinks tavern was opposite the courthouse. *The History of Brown and Clermont Counties Ohio, page 93, states Nicholas Sinks Sr married Margaret Pence and came from Virginia to Newtown in 1797 and to Williamsburg in 1801. He owned a tanyard and the Thomas Morris tavern after 1804, managing both successfully. [from page 334, states 'Thomas Morris having sold the tavern and its goodwill to Sinks and moved to Bethel that spring' referring to the first meeting of the Board of Commissioners, which was held at the tavern of Nicholas Sinks 4 Jun 1804. 1. [SINKS-L] Sinks in Louisiana and Kentucky
    2. C. William Gilbreath
    3. My ancestor NANCY SINKS (born 25 March 1808 in Kentucky) was married to THOMAS BENNETT of East Feliciana Parish , LA , on 11th March 1824 in Amite Co. , MS. I can find no record of any SINKS families in or around Amite Co. , MS during this time period. I do not know the name of NANCY SINKS' parents , but believe her father to be the JACOB SINKS found in the 1820 Feliciana census , with 1 male under 10 , 1 male 26-45 , 4 females under 10 , 1 female 10-16 (my NANCY would fit here) , and 1 female 26-45. I cannot find JACB SINKS , nor any other SINKS for that matter ,in any LA census again until 1850 , when I found a JACOB SINKS , aged 72 years , born in VA , living alone. I believe this to be the same JACOB SINKS who was enumerated in 1820 East Feliciana Parish. I can find no other SINKS in LA. , other than a MARY ANN SINKS , who married a JOHN LEBO in Natchitoches parish , LA in 1831 , around the time that THOMAS BENNETT and NANCY SINKS BENNETT were thought to also be in Natchitoches parish. I feel it is quite possible that this MARY ANN SINKS was a sister to NANCY SINKS. I know from NANCY SINKS' birthplace that she was connected to some SINKS who were in Kentucky at some point.I found a JACOB SINKS who was married to CATY FEWELE on 3 July 1801 in Pendleton Co. , KY., and wonder if this could be the same JACOB SINKS who ended up in LA. I know JACOB SINKS was in LA by at least 1812 , as he was listed as a soldier from LA in the War of 1812.The only reference to the surname FEWELE that I could find in LA was in the minutes of the East Feliciana Parish , LA police jury for the 1820's. A "Mr. Fewele " is mentioned one time , but he does not appear on the 1820 Feliciana Parish Census. I really hope someone can help me. I've have been unsuccessful at unraveling the mystery of this line of my family for a long time. Sinks is/was a very uncommon surname in Louisiana , so I feel it is probable that the few that were here were connected in some way. Please , if you have or know of ANY SINKS in LOUISIANA in ANY time period , or ANY SINKS in KENTUCKY around the late 1700's and early 1800's , please contact me!!! Also , if you know of any SINKS/FEWELE(FEWELL) connections , please let me know. I will be eternally grateful! I was so excited and surprised to find that the surname SINKS actually had a mailing list. I look forward to learning more about the SINKS from all over the US . Thanks so much for any help someone out there may be able to give me. Sandra Gilbreath
