Author: 4Sandy3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/127.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Ann, Yes I am Jessie's granddaughter. I felt bad about the DNA test not showing what we had hoped. I would like to find another member from a different part of the family to verify the results. Since we have a good handle on the Jacksons in IN it seems that the break must have happened in North Carolina. The Hammericks were in North Carolina but not the same area as our Jacksons. But I did find reference of a boy "who shall now be called Jackson" so it must have been an adoption possibly from the son of wife through a previous marriage. Who knows? My grandmother Jessie died when she was in her thirties and my dad was just a boy so I never got to meet her but I remember great-grandmother Jackson well. We lived in Florida but we used to come to Indiana for summer vacations. Aunt Nellie was my dad's favorite and she even came to Florida to visit. I got some genealogy information from Aunt Nellies daughter Thelma. Are you currently working on genealogy? I have been doing it for over 20 years and was teaching a class but I was trying to do too many things and haven't done any genealogy for a while. I run in spurts. I am a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution on my mother's side. I am also a member of the Indiana Pioneer Families on my dad's side. They have asked me to also add our Jackson Family to the Indiana Pioneer Families but I haven't finifhed the paperwork. John M. Jackson, Sr. Owned land in Miami County very early and was active in many things including the Grand Jury. John M. Jr. was a lawyer and well known also. I am a member of the Miami County Hisotrical Society too. I haven't been back to Peru since I buried my mothet there in December of 1993. I keep thinking I need to do a lot of work there but I can't seem to get it planned. Good to talk to you. Keep in touch. I will check in the Miami county records. My brother did a DNA analysis which showed he was not the descendent of Jacksons but of Hamricks. So that may be why we can't find any information before John. Are you Jessie's granddaughter? If so, you arranged the DNA testing for Larry. No I have still not been able to find the parents of John and Mehetable. In the 1850 Census in Miami County they have Sarah Jackson at 85 years old living with them and she is the mother of one of them. I have always doubted the marriage bond which said Mehetables name was Jackson also? I have looked through the wills in Pasquotank County on line trying tofind one a widow name Sarah Jackson in the 1840's but no success. I think it might be possible if one could visit North Caroline. I beleive Sarah Jackson died between 1850 and 1860 in Miami county so you might be able to lookfor obituary, cemetery or funeral home records. Mehetable belonged to the Methodist Episciple church. JOhn M Jackson died in February 1868 and left a will. It does not mention Sarah. I think John an Mehetable must have had other children we don't know about. Their marriage bond is dated 1816. Ambrose was born in 1823. That's a long time not to have any children. Then after Ambrose we only have Mary Ann born in 1830, Eleanor in 1832, John M. in 1834 amd Zachariah in 1837. Some time must have been spent in traveling from North Carolina to Indiana. THEY ARE IN pASQUOTANK IN 1820 BUT wAYNE cOUNTY IN 1830 CENSUS. tHEN mIAMI cOUNTY IN 1840 census. I have the obituaries for both Mehetable..April 1873 Peru Republican and John M. Sr. Feb 8th 1868..Peru Republican. Perhaps since you are in IN you can look for more on Sarah Jackson. I have had this brick wall for at leasyt 20 years. Lot's of things to look for. Not enough time. Keep in touch. Sandy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was born February 28, 1828 and died on December 18, 1892. He was first married to Hannah B. Bradley (b.3/21/1824, d. 4/8/1857). They had three children: Mary Rice Sinkes, Sealy Jane Sinkes, and William Daniel Sinkes. Following Hannah's death, John married Nancy A. Roales. I'd really like to find John Emanuel's parents. Information on Hannah B. Bradley would also be appreciated. My grandfather seemed to think that the Sinkes family came from Scotland or Sweden. Author: kgravett1968 Surnames: Sinks/Brenen/Jones Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/151.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: After much research, I can say that Henry Samuel Sinks and Arthur Byrd Sinks are brothers. Coincidence #1: Henry Samuel Sinks married Alice "Allie" Holmes and Arthur Byrd Sinks married Oma Holmes (both Oma and Alice are sisters). The Sinks migrated from Arlington, KY to Charleston, Mississippi County, MO (some went to Poplar Bluff, MO and others went toward St. Louis, MO) Coincidence #2: Henry Samuel Sinks' death certificate list his parents as Henry Samuel Sinks and Katherin Bremen; Katherin Breman first married Henry Samuel Sinks and then married Henry Jones (this is found on the 1880 census showing Henry Jones/Caty Jones/Arthur Jones and Samuel Jones (which should be Sinks). Note: Katherin Bremen's full name is Mary Kathleen Bremen (or Brannon). The next census (1900) shows Mary K. Jones with Samuel Sinks and her three Jones' children (Sallie/Edward/Thomas). Both census are in Arlington, KY. (Note: Mary K. Jones/Kate Jones, etc.-along with Henry Samuel Sinks and Alice Holmes then according to 1910, 1920 and 1930 went first to Charleston, MO and then to Popular Bluff, MO). Coincidence #3: On Mary Kathleen Jones' death certificate, it listed the informant as Arthur Sinks. My great-grandfather Arthur Sinks died sometime after his mother (Mary K. Jones) died. It showed on the death certificate that he was now also living in Popular Bluff, MO and then eventually ended up back in St. Louis, MO. Still the question is-who are Henry Samuel Sinks Sr.'s parents. One problem is the various census with Henry Samuel Sinks and Arthur Byrd Sinks show that their father (now known as Henry Samuel Sinks) was born in either Illinois, Missouri, or Kentucky. (The various census do not agree with each other). Some of this may have been that the two brothers did not know their father very well or have any specific information about him. Hopefully some of the answer will be found. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kgravett1968 Surnames: Sinks/Brenen/Jones Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.sinks/151.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am from the Arthur Byrd Sinks side (who is my great grandfather). In researching on the Missouri SOS site, if you look for Mary K. Jones; you will find the informant as Arthur Sinks (this is from Popular Bluff, Butler County, Missouri). My guess is that Henry Samuel Sinks (whose parents via the death certificate show Henry S. Sinks and Kathren Brenen) is the brother of Arthur Byrd Sinks. It looks like from various census' that Kathren Brenen is known as Mary Katherine Brenen-married to Henry S. Sinks and then to a Henry Jones. I see possibly two children (Henry Samuel and Arthur Byrd) with Henry S. Sinks and possibly three other children with Henry Jones. I saw census' from Kentucky and from Missouri. Most of the census show that both Henry Samuel and Arthur Byrd were born in Kentucky (probably Arlington, Carlisle, KY) and that their father was born in Illinois and mother was born in Missouri. I am trying to go further past Henry S. Sinks (his parents and so on). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
