He is my g-grandfather. He was a hewer drawer in the coal pit and married Elizabeth Barnes. He had four children (that I know of for definate), Edna (my grandmother), Jack, Bert and Derek. At the time of Edna's birth, they lived at 627 Eaton Cottages, Ashton in Makerfield. On searching the 1901 census I found a couple of possibilities that may be the John I am looking for but haven't managed to confirm them yet. 1. John Simpkin aged 8 584 Garswood Rd Ashton f John aged 32 Coal Miner Hewer, m Sarah aged 39. 2.
