My gggrandmother was Elizabeth P. Simpkins, who married Asa Lord. I believe that she was born about 2/12/1829 in New York City and she died in Jewett on April 27, 1903. They had 5 children: Collins (my ggrandfather), Rosalia, Adelaid, Delilah and Estelle. I obtained a Verified Transcript from the Register of deaths to try and discover who her parents were, but it was not very helpful. It gave only Simpkins for her father and Knnu for her mother. I called the Town Clerk's office to ask if the writing on the original document had been hard to interpret and she told me that it was nearly impossible, suggesting that Knnu could just as well be Kaan or something else. I had checked out Knnu on the internet and all I could find was that it was a Cheyenne name. This did not fit the pattern for a woman born in New York City, although it was not impossible. Later, I found some information that caused me to think that the name could be Gee; but, I keep running into brick walls. I have checked census records, but with this little to go on, I can't tell anything definitive. I expect everyone knows that census records before 1850 are not much help and she was married before that, as her first child was born in 1852. I did get her obituary, but it provided no leads, only the date and cause of death (pleuro-pneumonia). Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. M.
