I have been away from the list for a long time, but a cousin just gave me a letter which my grandmother, Nellie E. Finn, nee Lord, had written about her grandmother Lord, but it goes a little further back. This letter confirms that Elizabeth Lord, nee Simpkins, wife of Asa Lord, was the daughter of Catherine O'Brien and Samuel Simpkins, who came from the west; and, it says that Catherine's parents were Asa and Mary O'Brien. It does not give Mary's maiden name, nor does it tell anything more about Samuel Simpkins. The west is a big place; but, his second wife was Hepzabah Haines and they moved to Michigan where they had a son. That is where he is buried and perhaps where he came from. It's a place to check out for more of his family. Any information will be gratefully received. Mark: If you are still on the list and would like a copy of the letter, I would be glad to share. It is in my grandmother's handwriting and she remembered things like that Asa Lord's brother owned a sawmill and had a lumber business. She remembered seeing the sawmill. She mentions Uncle Thomas, Catherine's brother. To me, the letter is quite a find. I don't know where my cousin turned up the letter; but, I know my grandmother's handwriting; she died in 1958. AWESOME!!!! AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!!Mignon, I am so excited to have received your email. This is great news and it does confirm some of the notes I have that I couldn't quite link together. Yes, please email me a copy of the letter. I would love to have it. In the meantime, I'll see what I have that can go along with this new information. Thank you so much for thinking of me!
