My grandmother, Alice Luellen Cox Foster, kept alot of old pictures in her trunk. The items were a mixture of her family and her husband's. Her husband was William "Bill" Foster, son of James Ervin Foster and America Francis Goddard. America was the daughter of William Goddard and Matilda Lemmons. William Goddard was the son of John Goddard and Louvenia (also spelled Lovinia and Lavinia) Simpkins. Louvenia was born in Virginia in 1814. John was born in Maryland in 1805. They moved to Fayette County, WV between 1830 and 1840. Alice Cox was the daughter of James Elbert Cox and Hattie Virginia Basham. James Cox was the son of Joseph M. Cox and Rosetta Aires of Summers County. James was born in 1881 and moved to Cabin Creek. Hattie was the daughter of David Allen Basham and Manerva Jane Cox. They lived in Summers County during the late 1800's and early 1900's, before moving to Cabin Creek. My grandmother developed Alzheimer's Disease many years ago. She passed away in December. She was never able to tell me information about the people in the old photographs. One of the pictures is of Donald E. Simpkins. In it, he is a little baby. Through checking census records, I figured out he was the son of Robert and Laura Simpkins of Summers County. Donald was born around 1924. The couple had him later on in life. My problem is, I have no idea what he meant to my family. Since my great great great grandmother was a Simpkins, I leaned towards the idea that he was related to her line. But I really don't know. Since the Coxes were from Summers County, it could have been a family friend or distant cousin on their side. I was hoping someone could help. Does any of the names sound familiar? Thanks, Kaci
