I probably won't get to it until this week end. There was a pub out of Parkesburg, WV, cannot remember the name, it was a monthly newsletter. One or two of the issues had research on the Simpkins. I did find newspaper clippings from a Martin Co paper that had at least one of the Simpkins research from that pub. I plan to compare it with what you and the others had. Again thanks for your help. It went back to Eli Sr. parents - Robert & Elizabeth, but did not go any further than that. It stated that Robert's father's name was James, but that there were two James Simpkins that came into the states about the same time and both had sons named Robert. No way of really telling which one belonged with this line. Looked through my data on Eli last night and from what I saw, the last record had him in Lincoln County in WV in 1880. Could not find any information about where he is buried - but since he was up in age at that point, I would imagine it is somewhere in that area. They are only matching Simpkins and not Woods. Does anyone know of any story about a young Simpkins leaving home. Apparently he was born a Simpkins and then changed his name to Woods. This Mr. Elusive married an Elizabeth Fowler who was born in Madison, Georgia. I know there was a Benjamin Simpkins first in North Carolina and then moved to Georgia. William (husband of Nancy) was the son of John Simpkins (b 23 Nov 1797 S.C. d. 1852 at Cherokee Encampment, Clear Creek, Union, IL) and Jane ___ b. abt 1800 Mo. died before 1855 Cherokee Encampment. John Simpkins was the son of John G. or Jonathan G. Simpkins, b abt 1756 Prob NY. d. 22 Jul 1843 Williamson, Ill and Margaret Moore b. 26 Aug 1764. d. 16 or 17 Jun or July 1847 Williamson. His father, John Simpkins passed away from an illness in 1852. William took over the probate and the family farm in Clear Creek. His mother, Jane, died before 1855. Both his sisters, Rebecca and Sarah, were married before 1855. William and Nancy started their life together in Clear Creek in the western side of Alex. Co. Ill., where John was born. But then spent the next 30 years in Unity and Sandusky, which is located in the eastern side of the same county. All the other children were born in Unity. The 1900 census shows Wm. and Nancy back in the Thebes Precinct {not the town}. I'm assuming they moved back to the original family farm. William died on Jan. 8, 1909 from senility and is buried on the family farm in the family cemetery according to the death record {I have a photo copy}.
