Our John would have been 26 at the time of the 1901 census, I think I have found him, a private in the army. We don't know what happened to him after that, but we do know that he join the army around that time. It looks like our John is not the same as yours. If you have managed to find the marriage certificate it will have his fathers name. Our John's father is William, William died in 1880, they both worked in the Stone Quarries in Box Wiltshire, so similar work. If you do find that William is John's father I would be very interested to hear from you again. Did you know you can look at the indexing that is in London for birth marriages and deaths (Scanned copies of the indexing pages), on the internet now. Its called 1837.com thats 1837-2002 it costs .10p to look at a page but you can save it, or Freebmd 1837-1902 which is free not all are on this one yet but doing great. Good luck in your hunt. Irene

John Simpkin aged 8 584 Garswood Rd Ashton f John aged 32 Coal Miner Hewer, m Sarah aged 39. 2. John Simpkin aged 19 coal hewer, Monica Terrace Ashton f John aged 50 General Labourer, m Margaret aged 52. If this helps or you have any connections please let me know. regards Ian

He was born in Ohio on March 9, 1874. The location is unknown, but I have photos of him in the Ohio National Guard when he was 18 years old (1892). The photo was taken at the Weyrich's Studio-27/29 West Main Street, Hillsboro, Ohio. I also have a photo of him at the age of 20 taken at the same studio. His father was Joseph E. Simpkins who was born on June 22, 1846 and died March 14, 1914. I have a photo of him at the age of 40 (1886) but it does not list where it was taken. It appears that John Simpkins had two brothers, Wilbur and Bill. I have photos of both with Bill's showing that it was taken at the R.J. Stevens Studio-Williamsburg, Ohio. Thanks for any information that you may have.

Further research has turned up military enlistment for William Albert Simpkins which was signed by Catharine Simpkins (Kolbfleish) who was married to Steward Simpkins. William's has a son named Henry Robert Simpkins who was born September 25, 1925 and passed away of colon cancer after a six month battle. I know that William moved to Ohio upon further research. My father Henry always believed his father had been killed in a trucking accident on the turnpike - how sad.
