Hello All, Just a quick note to let everyone know that I am the new administrator of this mailing list. Taking over a mailing list is a lot like walking into a theater during the middle of a movie and not having any idea of the plot. So I would like to kick things off with a ROLL AND BRICKWALL call. So please post your ancestors and most of all let us know what your BRICKWALLS are. Helpful Hint: Remember to change the Subject Line when you reply to this message with your own surnames. :-) The Rules Short List: #1. BE NICE. No flaming of others or nasty criticisms of posts. #2. KEEP ON TOPIC. By that I mean genealogy. No virus reports, or commercial advertising, etc. Rootsweb has lists for many topics to serve all needs. #3. HAVE FUN! If you have any questions or comments that do not belong on-list please contact me at: jasche45133@aol.com. Sincerely, Joan Asche Mailing List Guidelines http://www.jasche.com/lists.html
In search of information in regards to Simeon Simpkins that enlisted into the Union Army in Idaho Springs, Colorado on 28 Sep 1862 at the age of 18 by Lt. Moses. He was then mustered in on 3 Mar 1863 in Denver, Colorado by Col. Chivington as a Private in Co. E 3 Colorado Infantry. In Nov 1863, the 3 Colorado Infantry was merged with the 2 Colorado Infantry to form the 2 Colorado Cavalry, mainly because it was easier to fight Indians when on horseback. The 2 Colorado Cavalry were called up to the border war state of Missouri to patrol for Confederate Guerillas allowing the Kansas soldiers to move elsewhere. On 17 Jul 1864, a battle ensued that left 16 Confederate soldiers and six Union soldiers dead. The six Federals were buried the same day in an unmarked mass grave in Pisgah Cemetery near present day Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Their names were unknown for 140 years until recent research had uncovered them. Now, in a desperate attempt to find relatives of the six soldiers, I resort to this List hoping to find somebody that has information on Simeon Simpkins, one of the soldiers that lost their life on that tragic day. If you have any information that will confirm that this is the same person, or if you are a known descendant, whether direct or collateral, of if you know someone that is, please notify me as soon as possible. I've already contacted one descendant, but the information is lacking and confirmation is still necessary. Your help will be greatly appreciated. The Aunt Sarah I mentioned earlier was Sophia Maud's sister born 1891 James was born 1889 and George 1894. They all have family although I am not in touch with all of them my cousin David is I think. My father was listed as a boarder on the 1901 census and they married the same year on Christmas Day. Dad was born in 1910 and had a sister Lucy but I am not sure who was the eldest. They were all born in Ratcliff, Tower Hamlets, East London. As I believe you are in America perhaps I should explain that this is Londons Docklands now. I thought we had relatives in America as I could remember Dad telling me as a child that someone had emigrated but I thought it was Canada. When I mentioned this to my cousin David at Christmas he said someone from Charlie Vince's family had gone to America but had later returned to UK. Please get in touch, perhaps we are ! half cousins. Beryl

Surnames: Foster Morris Cox Comer Flint Goddard Wood Skaggs Lemmons Simpkins Kincaid Hughes Brown Johnson Meadows Lilly Aires Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AIBAIB/389 Message Board Post: I've been researching my family tree for about eight years now. My grandmother, Alice Luellen Cox Foster, kept alot of old pictures in her trunk. The items were a mixture of her family and her husband's. Her husband was William "Bill" Foster, son of James Ervin Foster and America Francis Goddard. America was the daughter of William Goddard and Matilda Lemmons. William Goddard was the son of John Goddard and Louvenia (also spelled Lovinia and Lavinia) Simpkins. Louvenia was born in Virginia in 1814. John was born in Maryland in 1805. They moved to Fayette County, WV between 1830 and 1840. Alice Cox was the daughter of James Elbert Cox and Hattie Virginia Basham. James Cox was the son of Joseph M. Cox and Rosetta Aires of Summers County. James was born in 1881 and moved to Cabin Creek. Hattie was the daughter of David Allen Basham and Manerva Jane Cox. They lived in Summers County during the late 1800's and early 1900's, before moving to Cabin Creek. My grandmother developed Alzheimer's Disease many years ago. She passed away in December. She was never able to tell me information about the people in the old photographs. One of the pictures is of Donald E. Simpkins. In it, he is a little baby. Through checking census records, I figured out he was the son of Robert and Laura Simpkins of Summers County. Donald was born around 1924. The couple had him later on in life. My problem is, I have no idea what he meant to my family. Since my great great great grandmother was a Simpkins, I leaned towards the idea that he was related to her line. But I really don't know. Since the Coxes were from Summers County, it could have been a family friend or distant cousin on their side. I was hoping someone could help. Does any of the names sound familiar? Thanks, Kaci
