OK, this is not my SIMPKINS line, but here's the way I find Lewis SIMPKINS in the census data (I am guessing for the 1830 census because there is no Lewis SIMPKINS in Greene County, NY, but Ulster County is just south of Greene. And likewise, I cant find this Samuel SIMPKINS either.): 1830 Federal Census, Plattekill, Ulster, NY - Lewis Simpkins, age 20 - 29. (Lewis should be 30.) - female Simpkins, age 20 - 29. However, I do not find Samuel on the 1800, 1810, 1820 or 1860 census. There are two Samuels on the 1860, but one is 32 and the other is 75. If this Samuel was born in 1793, he would be about 67. Hello: Is anyone missing a Benjamin Simpkins born about 1780 that moved to Canada maybe around the time of the Revolutionary War, not sure exactly when. He may have been married in the US. This has been a 10 brick-wall. I could sure use some help. I have very little to go on. Bonnie

List, I am descended from Nathan SIMPKINS, who was born about 1822 in Knox County, Ohio. I believe he may be a son of Selah SIMPKINS (b. abt 1791, NJ) but I have no proof. Nathan was a carpenter and shingle-maker who married Rachel S. IRELAND on 24 Sep 1843. The couple had six children. On 20 Jul 1861, Nathan enlisted as a private in Co. C of the 32nd Reg't, Ohio Infantry. By the time this regiment fought at the battle of Huttonsville, WV (12 Nov 1861), he was likely too sick to participate. In fact, his captain, James B. Banning, repeatedly tried to have Nathan discharged because other members of the company were catching his disease. Finally, Nathan was discharged at Beverly, VA, on 6 Dec 1861 because of "chronic rheumatism", and returned home. On 20 Dec 1861, Nathan died of Typhoid Pneumonia. Nathan and Rachel's children (all in Knox County, Ohio): * Milton Mills SIMPKINS (7 Feb 1844 - 10 Feb 1933) married Sarah M. SEVERNS * Stiles Thrift SIMPKINS (8 Feb 1846 - 24 Feb 1923) married Rebecca C. ??? * Nancy J. SIMPKINS (b. abt 1848) * Mary Ellen SIMPKINS (3 Aug 1851 - before 1880) married William LEMLEY * Nathan A. SIMPKINS (Abt 31 Oct 1853 - 12 Jul 1863) * Sarah J. SIMPKINS (Abt 28 Sep 1856 - 8 Jul 1863) I am still looking for more evidence concerning Nathan's father as I currently have nothing firm. Stephen Fox
