Surnames: Simpkins, Penn, Gale, Collins, Cranmer, Ford Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AIBAIB/422 Message Board Post: My grandmother, Pearl Vivien Simpkins, b. 6 Aug 1918 in Trenton, NJ passed away on the 29th of July of this year in Fort Myers, Florida, where she & her late husband Gordon Penn bought a home back in 1980. She was the only surviving child out of 7 children born to the late John & Abbie Simpkins, and although she was born in Trenton, she spent the majority of her formative years in Barnegat, Ocean Cty, graduating from Barnegat HS in 1936. Her skill in the playing of the violin was so proficient that she was offered a scholarship to Julliard, but chose instead to marry Gordon Penn in 1937. She was multi-talented - she was able to sing, play the violin, piano and organ, and was a talented painter. She also tried her ambidextrous hands at ceramics, and did very well :) Pearl was the beloved mother of 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. She will be very sorely missed. Love you forever, Grandma xoxoxo

Other than Laura's name( Laura Belle Dillon) I have little else except that she died about 1897, which would be incorrect if Donald was her son and was not born until 1924. I will look to see if I have additional info that I have not entered to my computer program.

    1. Re: [SIMPKINS] Re: Simpkins in Knox County, Ohio
    2. I have seen references that the Simpkins line having possible connections to Pa. and New York. At this point I am still researching New Jersey and West Virginia/ Virginia. The names Annais , Middleton and James Simpkins (Who Married the Indian Maiden in Virginia) keep popping up. I have also seen Seeley and Selah Simpkins in New York but in later censuses. i.e. Selah SimkinsPlattekill,Ulster,NY1820 Seeley is not really a common name and is actually a Surname of a Revolutionary Officer. There is actually three Seeley/ Selah Simpkins in Knox Co., Ohio. Seeley Simpkins, Sr. B: Abt 1727 D: 14 Apr 1815 Clinton, Knox Co, OH ; Seeley Simpkins B: 1791/1795 New Jersey D:21 May 1881 Knox Co, OH, Ebenezer Cemetery, Knox Co, OH and his son Seeley B: 3 Jun 1822 Knox, Ohio D: 14 Jun 1896 Ohio. I feel that Seely Simpkins Sr. is the Seeley Simkins that served under Captain Bloomfield's company, Third Battalion, First Establishment. Along with other possible brothers or close relatives. Milton and Mary ellen were brother and sister. You share your ancestry with Nathan, Seeley and John Simpkins. I am almost complete with my Simpkins research to the present day descendants. If I go to print today, it would amount to 38 pages of just descendants and over 500 pages in book form. I am also finding hints that Ananias and Seeley Simpkins Sr. (B:1727) are related. But nothing to feel comfortable with yet. In the late 1700's our Simpkins are in Cumberland and Salem, New jersey.
