Bonnie, According to the Shuman History (included in the "Bashlor Family History") compiled by Carolyn Jarrard (and others), William Henry Shuman (son of Martin Henry Shuman)married Mary Ann Bridges and THEY had William Henry Shuman (b 1805) who married Martha Sheffield. THIS Martha Sheffield was dau of John Sheffield and Martha Harvey. John Sheffield was son of William Sheffield and Mary ?....William Sheffield was son of John Sheffield and Mary ? Martha Harvey was dau of Richard Harvey and Elizabeth Morrell. Another Martha Sheffield (dau of same William Sheffield & Mary ? above) married David Groover about 1799 (she was born ~1779 in Duplin Co NC). Please note that this is NOT my research but that of Carolyn Jarrard (on this list) and others. They can fill in details better than me. On another note, there was a Sheffield family in Screven County GA where I grew up...the elder man was John Sheffield and he had at least 4 sons that I know of (Emory Lee, Brooks, Wade, Edward). John Sheffield would have been born approx. 1890's, I'd guess, since Emory Lee would have been born about 1910-1914 (a contemporary of my father).
