I have been corresponding with a man whose wife is a descendant of this woman's probable father or brother, George Williston (824 Scovel, Wooster, OH 44691), who has found quite a bit of information, but as of yet, no proof of who their ancestors were prior to Ohio. Are you a descendant of Josiah and Sarah? Here is what George says: 1 Moses SHUMAN - ------------------------------------------- Birth: bef 1775 Death: Feb 1823, Londonderry Twp, Guernsey Co, OH Father: Daniel (?) SHUMAN In the 1820 Madison Twp, Guernsey Co census, Moses Shuman is listed as being over 45 years old. He is shown with 3 underage males, a woman 26-44 years of age, and 4 underage females. Moses Shuman's father may have been Daniel, since he named his oldest son Daniel, a common naming pattern. A Daniel Shuman was a Revolutionary Militiaman from Lancaster Co. Moses Shuman and his wife may have been in Ohio before 1802, as Daniel was said to have been born there in that year. The first proof of their presence is a land record in 1806. Others in the area early on include: * Sarah Shuman married Joseph Bowers in 1805 in Belmont Co, OH. * John Shuman bought land in 1814 in Guernsey Co, OH. * Frederick Shuman was in Green Twp, Harrison Co, OH. * Adam Shuman's widow, Mary, came to Guernsey Co, OH from Perry Co, PA with her children in 1820. Adam was a descendant of George from near Harrisburg, PA. I'd be glad if anyone else has information on this very early Ohio SHUMAN family. Regards!
