    3. Got your email and many thanks for the info. The only thing I have on my grandmother is her name, date of birth, death and marriage date as follows: Margaret Elizabeth "Lizzy" Beaty (b) July 10, 1864 in Charlotte, NC (d) March 14, 1942 in Monroe, NC (buried in the Monroe City Cemetery) and married September 8, 1885 in Charlotte NC. You did mention that she was orphaned at age 3 and was reared by a Tom and Bill Shuman? The only Bill I know will be mentioned later in this email. Charles Augustus "Gus" Shuman (Lizzy's husband) was (b) April 30, 1865 (d) March 6, 1949 in Waldo, Fl. and buried by "Lizzy" in Monroe. They had twelve (12) children. DO YOU HAVE THE NAMES OF THE CHILDREN THAT WERE BORN TO THEM? If not, let me know and I'll forward what I have. My daddy, Lee Washington Shuman was the baby. He was born the same year your ggrandmother was married - 1908. You stated that you ggrandmother, Marie "Minnie" Flora Shuman Bowen was born in Monroe, NC. I believe she was probably was born in Charlotte, NC since this Shuman Clan did not move to Monroe, NC until around 1908. Where did your GGrandmother "Minnie" get married? Was it Charlotte or Monroe, NC? I have records that Lizzy and Gus purchased land in Charlotte as early as 1892 but nothing further back. They didn't purchase anything in Monroe until after 1908. The Tom and Bill that you mentioned that reared Lizzy might have been the Uncle William Shuman that was Charlest Augustus Shuman's brother. I have found a William H. Shuman who came from Hember Germany around 1860 on the "Elisa Ruebuke?" He was (b) 1-30-1838 (d) 1-26-1899 and married a Margaret Beaty (2-24-1842) (d) 10-5-1883. There we are with another Beaty... I have a list of their children if you need them. There was a large Shuman Plantation located at what is now Remount Road (not sure of the correct spelling) in Charlotte, NC. I went there this past year and the only thing that was any indication that anyone ever lived there were several unmarked graves which I am assuming were the slave graves since they did have several slaves that my daddy told me about. He said he was told by his father that all the slaves respected the Shumans and were well treated. After the Civil War, many stated on at the plantation because they felt it was "home" to them. Of course, they were then paid for their services, as well they should have been. My daddy also told me of an Uncle Wallace which you mentioned. I cannot remember what you said about him? I don't remember too much about him either. I cannot even remember if he were a Shuman or a Beaty. I know that my twin brother, Jerry, has a cane with a snake craved around it that my daddy gave to him that belonged to my grandfather "Gus". Now to get to the Shuman side of our ancestry. Grandpa Gus' father was James W.? Shuman (b) March 5, 1823 (d) April 28, 1872 and buried unknown as yet. He married three (3) times. Our relationship comes from his third wife Jane. James served in the Civil War in the 42nd N.C. Regiment Company D enlisting around January 1, 1864 in Charlotte and being discharged May, 1865 after taking the Oath. He served under Capt. Robert Crawford. My GGrandmother, Jane, applied for a widow's pension July 2, 1904. He married as follows: Martha Beaty on April 11, 1850. Their only child that I could find as a girl, Catherine (b) 1851. (Note that his first wife was a Beaty). I have found that the families Shuman, Beaty and Stauffers were closely related or intertwined due to the marriages but nothing else. James' second wife as Margaret Steoof? or something that looks like this. Prehaps she was a Stauffer and they didn't spell it correctly. They were married in Charlotte January 1, 1857. I think they had two (2) children: a son James Jacob (b) 1-1-1863 and a girl, Brenone? (b) around 1863. She died- date unknown- and he married-- my GGrandmother, Jane Elizabeth Stauffer (b) 12-22-1837 (d) 7-16-1917 in Charlotte NC and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. They married May 13, 1863. I will send you info on her later. The only children I know of for sure was my Grandfather Charles Augustus and John (b) 1866. It is believed James' parents were: Jacob Shuman (b) 1790 (d) 11-27-1843 and Teny Earnheart (dates unknown for now) who married (April 1815). His father is believed to have been Christian Shuman who married Unknown for now. Will send more later. Hope this helps and send me what you have if you would. So glad you called me...
