Dear Beverly, If you are referring to the following Jacob Shewman: Jacob, born 11 Nov 1778 Botetourt Co., VA, he married Hannah Halderman in Franklin Co., VA 10 March 1804. They left soon after for Preble Co., OH, as the first child (that we know of) is John S. Shewman, born 18 Nov 1805 (OH per the 1860 census). Jacob died in Preble Co. in 1840. I've been unable to find any further information on Jacob's life in VA. No known parents or siblings. He simply sprouted and grew until picked by Hannah, a seed dropped from a wagon of one of the other many Shewman/Shuman/Shewmon lines on their way south, ha! If the Catharine who married Daniel Whitaker is related to the above Jacob, the relationship is unknown. There is a Jacob Shewman/Shuman listed in the 1810 and 1820 Hamilton Co, OH censuses, and if he shared the same birthdate with the Jacob of Preble Co., OH, it would an amazing coincidence!
