    2. I have been searching for a Ruel Shuman for some time in the GA. area. Several recent messages have alluded to a book by Carolyn Jarrard. How can I find out if this is my wifes line and were to obtain one of these books. Any help is greatly appreciated. Shaun.

Bonnie, According to the Shuman History (included in the "Bashlor Family History") compiled by Carolyn Jarrard (and others), William Henry Shuman (son of Martin Henry Shuman)married Mary Ann Bridges and THEY had William Henry Shuman (b 1805) who married Martha Sheffield. THIS Martha Sheffield was dau of John Sheffield and Martha Harvey. John Sheffield was son of William Sheffield and Mary ?....William Sheffield was son of John Sheffield and Mary ? Martha Harvey was dau of Richard Harvey and Elizabeth Morrell. Another Martha Sheffield (dau of same William Sheffield & Mary ? above) married David Groover about 1799 (she was born ~1779 in Duplin Co NC). Please note that this is NOT my research but that of Carolyn Jarrard (on this list) and others. They can fill in details better than me. On another note, there was a Sheffield family in Screven County GA where I grew up...the elder man was John Sheffield and he had at least 4 sons that I know of (Emory Lee, Brooks, Wade, Edward). John Sheffield would have been born approx. 1890's, I'd guess, since Emory Lee would have been born about 1910-1914 (a contemporary of my father). 2. BC, I am in the Shuman line from Effingham Co. After the weekend I would like to take the time to share notes. I have 3 Thanksgiving dinners today thru Sunday, 2 of which I am cooking. So I will be quite busy until then. But I do want to share notes. I am specifically interested in Elizabeth Shuman of Effingham Co. who married Shadrack Inman and later William Womack. Elizabeth was a daughter of Martin Henry Shuman. With Regards, Linda Snow Davis

    3. Cousins, I have been in correspondence with a family who are seeking help in locating two generations of their family, so this may be a "toughie." Here is what little they know, or think they know. At one point, the wife said in frustration, "Most of what we know could all be a big lie." Louise Shuman was born around 1875 give or take a few years, in Canada, they think. She married Henry Murrell, and they had a son George born around 1902. Her last known address was Massachusetts; George was *probably* born in either Massachusetts or Vermont. Does anyone have any ideas on how they might go about trying to find George, Louise and henry? Regards! It still follows the information in the Norman F. Kendall book, which is erroneous in a number of instances regarding the SHUMAN line. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Thanks also to Ron Sapp and others who have helped me with the information on both Henry's and Philip's lines. What I have is now much more complete. It was HENRY who had a son Levi, but PHILIP had a grandson Levi. I am, of course, always ready to receive more information, or, as in this case, comments regarding an obvious error in the data. Could the "circuit riding" priest who performed the >baptism simply have written the wrong name? Could be 12 yrs off. Or an Anna and a Hannah. Perhaps Anna died young? Mom's name could be Elizabeth Catherine and he used the Catherine? I've copied two churchbooks because I have so many listed there. Saves having to go back to the library when I find someone's name. Don't forget that most of the early Reformed and Lutherans were German and Swiss. Other than spellings and reversed names they've been pretty accurate. Use soundex on them LOL Some of the spelling in those old records... Or is it in the translations? You know what I mean <G> Now the census are another story <G> The birth records, one man was credited as the father of his brothers child. Wilma was originally written in as William. My father in law was listed as female. Aren't original records fun :)
