    1. [SHUMAN] Christian Shuman of Rowan County, NC - (b)1730
    2. tara13
    3. Paul, Read you query on the Rowan County, NC query board dated November, 1977 and found that you are related to Christian Shuman of Rowan through his son George. I am related via his son Jacob, who fathered James W. Shuman (Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, NC) who fathered Charles Augustus Shuman, who fathered my daddy Lee Washington Shuman. I know you've had correspondence with Ann Shuman Burdette. Ann's great grandfather, James Jacob Shuman and my grandfather, Charles Augustus Shuman were half brothers - different mothers. Both of you have mentioned that Christian Shuman left a will in Rowan County. I would like to have a copy of this will. Do you have a copy on the net or do I obtain a copy from the Rowan County Archives? You also mentioned the children of Christian Shuman. Is this available on the net through the census records or did you obtain this information from another source? Thank you for your kindness in responding to me. I'm attempting to get as much information on my Shuman Lineage as possible. Have a great day. Judi Shuman Currington

    2. terry
    3. Hi! Finished the "Help" pages. <http://home.att.net/~tsterkel> Please check it out! It is intended to help everyone with "how to do it" and "where is it" type questions. Have something to add! PLEASE send it to me! <mailto:tsterkel@worldnet.att.net> Thanks to everyone who helped and encouraged this effort. Next: Volga Village On-line Databases, when I recover. Notes: 1. Credit This is a collection of about 10 years of collected info on how to do Heritage and Genealogy. As such I am indebted to many people who have shared tidbits over the years. To the degree I have carefully retained the original source, full credit is given. If you believe that you are an "unaccredited source", please e-mail me with the detailed specifics, so I can give you credit on the next release. 2. Removed Pages Some of you may notice several pages removed. I have noticed that much of "my material" is showing up elsewhere. When I reviewed the site archives I maintain for the other sites, and mine, it is not clear who did what first. Complicating this is the fact that I edited the AHSGR Resource Kit and freely drew from my own in addition to AHSGR sources. To solve the Gordian Knot would take much more time than it would be worth. After all, the main purpose is to get out the material to "everyman". My solution? I have removed all contended material from my page. This effectively releases all my residual copyright. For everything left, I am clearly claiming copyright. If you like it...LINK TO IT, do NOT copy it. Thank you. 3. "Duplicate" Pages. Some helpful souls will wish to point out to me that I have material that "dupli- cates" or is similar to something somewhere else. Please restrain yourself. The exception: I would appreciate it if you would point out if I have not clearly provided a link to the alternative site, AND shown that the copyright belongs to the first originator (if known). Why the "duplication?" Simple, We (German Russians) have lost (by my count) at least 50 pages of material over the past 2 years. Either the sites have been abandoned, or withdrawn, or ?? Unlike a magazine, or book, this material is forever lost unless it is "re-published." I have been lucky to have local copies of some of this lost material, and have "published" it here. In each case, I would appreciate help finding him/her so I can offer free "hosting." {*}mailto:tsterkel@worldnet.att.net <http://home.att.net/~tsterkel>

    1. [SHUMAN] BEATTY-SHUMAN link?
    2. James Shuman
    3. Cousins, As many of you know, my original WV grandmother was a BEATY. Thus, I also follow that surname. I've often wondered at the fact that in both WV and in NC, the BEATY and SHUMAN familes got together! This evening, the following message was posted on the Beatty list (BP2000). I have no other information regarding it, but I immediately thought of our GA/NC cousins, and felt that we should post it on this list, as well. ___________________________________________________ This query comes from Judi Shuman Currington <tara13@gateway.net> Looking for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Beatty who was born July 10, 1864 possibly in Charlotte, N.C. and who died March 14, 1942 in Monroe, N.C. They were very kind in sending your name and E-Mail address. I certainly hope you can help me. Margaret Beatty married Mr. Charles Augustus Shuman on September 8, 1885 in Charlotte, N.C. To this union were born twelve children. The first child died but the couples next child was born March 25, 1887 - Flora Minne Shuman (Mrs. Alfred Bowens). Their twelveth child was my father, Mr. Lee Washington Shuman who was born February 22, 1909 and died January 5, 1976 in Boynton Beach, Fl. My grandmother's parents are unknown to any of the family members. No more information is known about her. The only other information I can give you is the following. My grandfather's father was Mr. James Shuman and he married three times. His first wife was Martha Beatty; his second was a Miss Stouff; and, his third wife was my great-great grandmother, Miss Jane Steuffer. All marriages were in Charlotte, N.C. My point in stating this is the fact that the Charlotte, N. C. Beattys were intertwened with the Shuman and the Steuffer families. If you can assist me I would greatly appreciate it. This would really be of help to me in my Beatty Lineage. --- I have learned recently, that my grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Beatty, was orphaned when she was about three years of age. Thus, her parents would have died around 1876 approximately. One source said she went to live with ONE OF "the Shuman" families and I guess this is how she met my grandfather, Charles Augustus Shuman, son of James W. Shuman. Another source said she went to live with Moses Stauffer, the brother of my great grandmother, Jane Stauffer Shuman, who married James W. Shuman. You can see why I wrote that it appeared the Beatties, Shumans and Stauffers of the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (Charlotte, NC area) were intertwened. ___________________________________________________ If anyone has any information that could help this lady, please contact her directly, as well as sharing it with us here. Thanks! JS ____________________________ James Shuman, art instructor Modesto High School jshuman@telis.org ____________________________

So her Husband David must have died between 1857-1860. Does anyone know about this particular family> Roasana claimed to be from Ohio. Ginger Weston

    3. Just found a mistake in what I have written here. Jacob Shuman was married to Margaret Hugg Shuman, not Elizabeth. I found the obituary for Margaret Shuman. It says that she was born southeast of Danville on the (looks like) Rileysburg Rd. It says her father, George Hugg, conducted a cooper (?) shop at Slabtown. The marriage date was right, Dec 24, 1869. It says that she was a member of the John Black Circle, the Ladies of the G.A.R for many years and a past president. She was a member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church. A lot of that makes no sense to me, but maybe it will to someone out there. -----Original Message----- From: Megan Wieringa <megz1@rockbridge.net> To: SHUMAN-L@rootsweb.com <SHUMAN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 09, 1999 6:29 AM Subject: [SHUMAN] Trying again.. >Hello all. 3. Cousins, This afternoon and evening, we had two postings regarding a supposed message from Bill Gates. Please be aware that this is one of the better-known examples of Internet Hoaxes, having been making the rounds for at least a couple of years. Check http://www.umich.edu/~virus-busters/hoaxes/gates.html for a few specifics on it. About the only difference in this version is that you will (supposedly) receive less money than in the original! A basic rule to follow when you receive messages such as this is to delete them, and if you're so inclined, respond to the person who sent it to you, citing web sources regarding its "truth." If it sounds incredulous, it probably is! and that is why we have a rule against posting Virus Warnings and Hoaxes. Now let's get back to helping each other find links to their families, which is the true spirit of the season -- GIVING, not GETTING! Regards to all! George, Adam's father was from Manor Township, Lancaster County. This is along the eastern shore of the Susquehanna River near the town of Columbia. Across the river in York County is the town of Wrightsville. Adam and his brothers, Andrew, and Henry, and John, all moved to what became Perry County, Pennsylvania (formed 1820). Dear Mr. Schiffermuller: I read your e-mail and do not know if I have any connection with your family of Shuman's but I was heart broken to read of your mother-in-law and how depressed she is over the death of her sister. I'm not that old but do know how sad and lonely it is to see family members leaving us one by one. But, assure her that very near to her as close as (Crystal River Fl) is a descendant of a Catherine Shuman Haught. My grandfather's who died in Plant City, Florida grandmother was Catherine Shuman. This line so far originates out of WVA and PA. So as I said although our last names may be different now we still have Shuman blood and teachings in our heart and God Bless Her. I do hope she gets a bit of happiness out of knowing how close so many of us are to her. Christine K. Bowen -----Original Message----- From: W.
