But I have another suggestion: Carolyn, if you can scan the Will, and send it to me privately, then I could add it to our web site so that all of us would be able to view it. I was just about ready to suggest a "photo album" section (although I'm very busy, as usual!) so it may be a little while before things start showing up, but you are now invited to begin sending me *scanned* photos of some of your early ancestors. Please remember they must be sent to me personally, with the scan as an attachment. The e-mail needs to clearly identify the person(s) in the photo, and also your complete name, as contributor. If possible, also explain your relationship to the person(s) in the photograph. Here's what I mean: This photo is of "Uncle Billy" Shuman and his wife Marie taken on their front porch about 1895. I am his g-g-nephew; his sister was my great grandmother. Charles B. Jones Regards! Dear Ann: I did not copy those wills - sorry. This information came from a book in my library up north regarding abstracts of wills. I just wrote the names and numbers beside them. The only way to get a copy of those wills would be to write to or find an e-mail assistant to go to Lancaster, PA courthouse and copy for you. Many counties on Internet have someone who volunteers to go to library or courthouse and make copies for you. I do not however, know the county Lancaster is in - most likely Westmorland. Maybe James or somebody knows - I will post l790 census Shuman's tomorrow for MD and PA. Of the Shoeman, Schuman, shuman's I found and counties they lived in in l790. Carolyn, That is very interesting and appreciated information. Since I notice that I would not be the only one interesting in seeing the deed that you mention. Is it possible for you to scan it to the rest of us descendents that are particularly interested. Thanks again, Marie, I am the great great grandaughter of Joseph or JJB Shuman from SC as most of the Wills refer to him as.

While Martin Shumann (note spelling) did have his children baptized at Ebenezer, that does not mean he lived there. He in fact lived in South Carolina, just across the Savannah River. He had some land on the Black Swamp section. Some of his descendants continued to stay in South Carolina, even after he moved to Georgia, settling in what is now the town of Meldrim, Georgia (Effingham County). It was situated near the Ogeechee River where Black Creek comes into it. Also, counties of Chatham, Effingham, Bryan and what used to be parts of Bulloch, meet at this point. Martin lived almost stone's throw from all of those counties. Some of his grandchildren lived in all of those counties, but still were neighbors. I have been wondering about Purysburg. It was across the Savannah River from Ebenezer and a German settlement. I have found a Martin Shuman in Rowan, N.C. in the 1740's but I do not know if it is our Martin or not. I have searched passenger lists, and can not find when he came to America. I do know his father had an estate in Germany which he left to Martin, as Martin states this in his will. Of course his father could have come to America as well and still have that estate in Germany. Just have to keep digging. I have a neat little deed that shows where the old family property was. Neat because it has a little house drawn on it...very unusual to find old deeds showing where the house was. Chris - Barb probably can't do anything about her software, so the rest of us should try to remember to hit enter at the end of each line (easier said than done when you don't normally have to)
Carolyn, Thank you for that information. I had done a little research on that line, but did not do extensive because I was not sure if I was connected. I have since then, decided the William Womack that is mentioned in some documents I copied is, in fact my line of Womacks. I do plan to start researching that line further. I was wondering about the deed you mentioned with the house drawn on it. Who did the property belong to? I would love to obtain a copy of that. Thank you for the help, I do appreciate all I can get. With Regards, Linda P.S. Carolyn, your name is familiar, have we shared info before?
Folks: For the most part, I am a lurker on this ListServe. Every now and again I will give my 2 cents. With regards to fixing the length of a line that your e-mail software makes (i.e. how long your lines of text are before they automatically return to start a new line), I have this... 1). Most e-mail software has an option where you can adjust the word wrap feature. Sometimes it's just a matter of finding it. 2) This second option is for receivers. If you really don't want to keep scrolling back and fort to read a message, copy the text and place it in a new Text file (i.e. create one...you have to have Windows to do this). Choose the "Word-wrap" option and...ta da! Well, I hope that helps some of you. Keep the messages coming. I'm a pretty faithful reader and it's nice to see how many of you there are on the list now. It's my hope that someday we will soon find the name of the alien space ship from Venus that we all descended from. May the Force Be With You, Roger Shuman (from the John Shuman family circa 1760s of Lancaster, PA)
Your E-Mail Looks fine to me. It comes through just like everyone else's. Marvette
It was my understanding that Martin Henry Shuman came into Ebenezer, Ga. just above Savannah. However, I have also not been able to find anything on his entry into America. I am from that line and have a copy of the Ebenezer Record Book entry as to Martin's son being baptized there in 1773. I understand Ebenezer was a Saltsburger settlement. I too would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Linda

Carolyn, Does your book include the Shuman clan that migrated from Pa. to NC such as Christian Shuman who migrated to NC, his son Jacob and Jacob's son James W.? If so, I will certainly get a copy of your book! Many thanks for your reply and also for all the time that you put into doing this book. It could not have been easy. You're terrific!
