I need a family tree on Martin Shuman who came from Germany to S.C. in 1750. I believe most of his descendents are in S.E. Ga. Thanks, Randy
What part of the country were they from? Henry Melton or MIlton Shuman? Were they from Ga. Or S.C.?
Thanks for your response, If you will contact my cousin in Fla., she can give you the source that she got her info. from and maybe can clear up some of these questions. Her e.mail address is nutrimom@mannapages.com Her name is Su Shuman Edgar. Thanks, Randy Shuman

Looking for information about the above. She was the first wife of Henry B. Milton/Melton. I have no date of birth for Annie/Anna. Henry was born 05/24/1854 and his second wife was Elizabeth ??????. Any help will be appreciated, Harry T "Keep your spine in-line" www.activator.com/dr/Tillman
Randy, Please understand, I will not doubt what you sent me as I want a good and true lineage....but There has been a lot of confusion concerning your line. There were 3 Shuman brothers, that married 3 Stanley sisters. One was William David, one Francis Bartow and one Henry Joshua. They show up in Tattnall co. on 1870 census. So, these boys must show up together on a census as a family somewhere. I have seen the funeral certificate of Francis Bartow and it gives his birth father as Henry and mother as Pharabee Sapp. Well, if you go to Bryan county, Ga. census you will find a William Henry Married to Pharabee, and you will find a Francis Bartow, a Henry J. a John H. but no William David. The confusion comes in here: I descend from Francis Bartow Shuman...born same year (give or take a year) as the other from Tattanall co....He has a brother Henry J. and a John H. His father is William Henry and his mother is Pharabee. They are two different Francis Bartows as one is buried in Vidalia ga., and the other in Bryan co....both died 1917-1918..... Francis Bartow is my gt. grandfather and my mother still remembered him as he died when she was 14 years old. He is located on the census of Bryan co. living next door to the William Henry and Pharabee that have the seven children and who I think your line links into.....the other Francis Bartow is in Tattnall co. 2.does your relative have a document that shows Henry Joshua born in Germany? 3.Also, on the 1900 census, Old William Henry that married Pharabee, married again in 1898 he he shows up having been married for 2 years, but shows only having been married twice....ruling out a third marriage if he was indeed the one that married Susannah Haymans. 4. The JOhn H. that was brother to my Francis Bartwo, was JOhn Harrison and I have his family documented. 5.I am interested in Martha Key being possibly Cherokee Indian. Was it family tradition that this is based on? 6.Is there a family Bible or something that shows Susannah Hayman died at 18?...just wondering. 7.I have never seen James' name other than a T. for Thomas...as is on his estate records in Effingham co. I do believe your relative is correct about William that married Susannah being your ancestor....but I think we are mixing up the two families some- how.....did he go back and live in S.C. and that is why his first children were born there? I know James lived in Effingham when William was born and that I have the plat of the place even showing where the house was located so, I was wondering why William went to S.C. to have the children. I have put together a book 500 pages on our family....I could not tie your part in at the time so I made a supplement on them and the Stanleys. I would love nothing more than to straighten out any part that is incorrect in that book. Since it was published, it has doubled (in my data base) in size. I am so glad someone else is seriously researching that part of the family. Hope to hear from you soon. Carolyn

Hi Susie! You just did! (g) >i'm not sure how to post > For most folks, you just hit the "reply" button and a new window will come up, into which you can type (or paste) any text you want. Often, we may actually do some cutting and pasting to compose the message we wish to send, adding or deleting information until it sounds like whatever we wish to tell the other folks. Then... click on the "send" button... and off it goes! Most of us prepare our messages "off-line" and then when we have them ready, we log on again and send them all at once. When we are sharing information regarding our lineage, here is a "template" that is easy to follow: Oldest Ancestor SHUMAN (b. date, place - d. date, place) m. (date, place) Oldest Ancestor SPOUSE (b. date, place - d. date, place) Children: (names by birth order if known) Next in Line of DESCENT (etc.) Next in Line of DESCENT (etc.) Next in Line of DESCENT (etc.) Next in Line of DESCENT (etc.) and so on... down to yourself. Usually, you won't have complete information on all of these ancestors, but it helps if you have "ca" or "about" dates; and probable locations -- even states -- are also very beneficial. Sometimes, if we've all been discussing the same set of folks, it's OK to just use their names, but we have a lot of John SHUMANs, for instance; which one is intended by that latest message? So, in referring to my oldest ancestor, I usually try to say John SHUMAN (1764) or something like that. Another way is to list the line back two or three generations from the one you're referencing: Jehu -> Joseph -> John. But... if your message doesn't seem clear, we'll probably send a reply, asking what you mean, so don't be afraid, go ahead and post! Looking forward to hearing from LOTS of you soon! Regards! i'm not sure how to post
Congradulations to us on reaching 100. We'll hit S2K before we know it! <G>. I haven't written much lateley, either looking for info or passing good stuff along. Our branch of Shuman's seems to be pretty hard to find. My father, who was born a Shuman, but adopted about the age of four, died in April. While he was never interested in finding his family, he did ask in those last few weeks if we had ever found his mother. That we were never able to do. If anyone knows of a Frieda Shuman, wife of Edward Shuman of Janesville, WI, please contact me. She was bon Frieda F. Hutson approximately 1895 in Wisconsin, her parents wer Clark H. Hutson and Esther Thomas. She married Edward in Rock Co WI in 1912. Their family included Edward b. 1913, Chester b 1918, Corydon, b. 1917, and Lyle, b. 1916. The family broke up about 1922?, Chester and Corydon were put up for adoption, the other members of the family apparently took in Edward and Lyle. There may have been a daughter (Dad thought there was), but the 1920 census doesn't mention her. I'd really like to find this woman if I can. Thanks in Advance for your help and support -- Richard L.
