Surnames: Shockey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZVHBAIB/281 Message Board Post: I am trying to find the correct death date for Christian Shockey, born 10 Sep 1788, and died either in Dec 1843 or Sep 1844. I believe Sep 1844 is in error, although that date is reported many times in various internet sites.. I have found the Orphans Court papers pertaining to his death, and the settlement of the sale of his property. These papers state that he died in Dec 1843, intestate, and on 8 January 1844 "letters of administration were granted to Daniel Lepley" in a Orphans Court session of that date. These papers were not filed, and on 14 July 1846 a petition was filed by a son-in-law to award a citation to the administrator to settle his account within 40 days. The citation was issued on that date. (This account was not settled until 25 May 1850). In these court papers the names of his 6 children are listed, as well as their spouses if married. Based on that data, I believe the Orphans Court records are probably correct. Any comments? Bob
