My goodness, I learned more from your e-mail than I've ever known about my father's background. Thank you so much. My dad (Stanley Merrill Shockey) was born in Quincy, Washington. Not sure how he came to be listed as being born in Oregon. The Henry Christopher name for his dad is probably correct. He was a wheat farmer (among many other things) when my dad was born, but they lost the farm and (as I understand) moved to Bellingham, Washington to manage a hotel. It would not surprise me if my grandfather was listed as "pipefitter" in Arizona. May have been one of the odd jobs he picked up while providing for his family. In fact, my mother tells me that there was some story about my dad and one of his brothers being "police officers" in Phoenix in the late 20's/ early 30's. (police officer in quotes because it was when Phoenix was a small, somewhat wild western town.) The information about my father and his brother Raymond ("Blackie") would be correct. I did not know they roomed in Denver, but they were, in fact "boomer linemen" moving from town to town constructing power lines. Both eventually ended up in Portland where my dad met my mom (Janet Reid). My brother (Raymond Reid Shockey) was born in Portland in 1940. The family moved to Seattle that same year when my dad became Superintendent of the Overhead (power line) division of Seattle Transit where he worked until retirement in 1969. Curious about the age data: If the family was in Arizona in 1920, my dad would have been the 14-year old, but your e-mail says Raymond was listed as two years older than Stanley. I have checked the computer list, you are there, your addresses are correct and they were all printed and mailed the same day.
