    3. I just found out some more information. Anna G. Shockey (b. 1907, d. 1993) couldn't possibly be Harry Paul's mother, due to the year that she was born. That makes her too young. My Grandfather remembered her name, so she has to be related in some way. I also found out that Harry Paul wouldn't have passed away before 1974 because there was a letter found written by him dated that year. Names also familiar to my Grandfather are: Willard Shockey (b. 1904, d. 1963) last res. in Atlantic City, NJ; R. C. Shockey (b. 1897, d. 1979) last res. in Hammonton, NJ; Elsie Shockey (b. 1899, d. 1983) last res. in Hammonton, NJ; Grace Shockey (b. 1875, d. 1973) last res. Northfield, NJ; Jessie Shockey (b. 1901, d. 1974) last res. Trenton, NJ. While flipping through "The Shockey Family Heritage Book" by Beatrice Bayley, he jotted his memory back to when he was a little boy. It's pretty hard for my 80 year old Grandfather to remember that far back. So we are not certain how these people are related. Please let me know if anybody has information on any of these people. It would be greatly appreciated just to know if there are other people who have Shockey relatives from New Jersey, because I am starting to think that we are it. 2. I also have a copy of the marriage certificate for Jobe and Emily which I received from my cousin Donald George and his wife Beverly Coon George. As for Jobe leaving Emily for a younger woman, this info came from my cousin Donald his wife & Beverly. This was told to them by his mother, my aunt Dora Shockey George, who was the granddaughter of Jobe and Emily. She had a lot of family history which she gave out in little bits and pieces to different family members. She wrote in a letter to me many years ago that Jobe led a wagon train with several hundred head of cattle from Missouri to Stockton Kansas. No one else has this info. She told her son and daughter-in-law about Jobe leaving his wife but no one else ever heard this before. I feel that her mother and father, my grand- parents, did not talk very much about Jobe and his misadventures but the story was known by the older folks in the area and of course they did talk about it amongst themselves. I feel my grandfather felt ashamed of what his father had done and may not have ever gotten over it. My father, Earl Shockey was the youngest boy and he somehow heard about a relative hiding out in a cave and other stories. So where did he get his stories from? People talk and they don't forget when someone does something they feel is sinful. I believe the storys I heard from my aunt Dora and the ones related to me by my cousin as told to him by his Mother. She would have no reason to lie about these things. And I think she herself was enough of a rebel herself with a sense of history to appreciate her background and her ancestors. She was actually quite a hell-raiser in her day. In any case, I am willing to bet Jobe did not die of natural causes. Carole

    2. I've been reading all the e-mails regarding the Shockey family for the past few years and appreciate all the work people have been doing. Decided it's time to dive in. My father is Stanley Merrill Shockey. He was born in May, 1906 in Quincy, Washington. His fathers name was Christopher, his mother was the former Nellie Worthy. He had two brothers, Ray and Dale. Ray lived in the Portland, Ore. area and died in the late 30's (car accident). Dale was somewhat of a drifter and my dad lost contact with him in the 40's. Dad settled in Portland, Oregon after travelling as a "boomer" lineman for various electric utiltities. He married my mother Janet Reid in 1939. More information to come, but can anyone make the connection between my dad (in Quincy, WA, circa 1906) and the rest of the Shockey clan? Figured I would start with this first step. Much appreciated and thanks for the good work. Reid Shockey rsho061865@aol.com

I believe that he was born in the Bega area of Germany instead of the Lower Palatinates. All the Schacke births for this time frame in Germany are in or close to Bega. Birth most likely between 1709 and 1718. He would need to appear to be 21 years old to be listed on the roles of the "Snow" Molly. >abt 1718- Barbara (Mrs. J C Shockey) born (?) > >1736, 1 Sep- J. I think that Ralph and Marie based the birth places on where they found Johann Christoffel living at the times of the births based on tax records or other similar data. The 1755 as the year for the birth is correct. On his 100th birthday his children presented him with a Bible in which each of them signed their names. I believe the above two dates were based on John selling the farm to his children and sil's. He may have moved on to Westmoreland County because of marrying a younger woman or just needed another change of scenery. The son of Anna and John C was born in 1775, turning 21 in 1796, the reason for the final recording and probate of the will of John Christopher. The original will written in German was probated in July 1775. >This will be a good start at consolidating our >information. I'm open for any suggestions. > >Brian Les

    1. Re: [Shockey] Early records of John Shockey Family
    2. Hi again Brian, I have been checking out my source material and find that the very earliest land grant to Johann was in Bucks county for 100 acres but no specifics. Just that he was on the tax list in that county in 1740. As to church ties the Shockeys may have been German Baptists or with the Reformed Church. The German Baptists were also known as the Dunkards or the Plain people. Fancy people were with the Reformed Church. I really can't say how religious the Shockeys were but my Dad and his people did not seem to be very religious just hard working decent farmers. Thanks for keeping us posted. Carole

    2. Hi Brian, I found mention of Johann getting a grant in Cumberland county which later became Franklin county, PA. He also had a land grant that was in the Third Resurvey tract in Sarah's Delight in the province of Maryland. I believe this is the tract that later became bisected by the Mason Dixon Line. I read somewhere that most of Johanns land was in Frederick county,Maryland. I hope this helps you some. I am convinced that the two Schacke's you found were brothers to Johann. Thus the story would be true about three brothers coming to America from Germany. If I can be of further help just let me know. Cashy24@aol.com

    3. I posted this earlier, but for some reason dont see it, so I will ask again. Do we know where John Shockey and wife Barbara landed in Bucks County, PA? I saw a reference that suggested it was in what is now Pike's County and have looked around, but have not found much information available. Does anyone have any ideas about the church affiliation of this family from 1737-1755? Any suggestions of where to look or where not to? Brian (Still in Pike's County, PA) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Autos - Get free new car price quotes http://autos.yahoo.com
