Hi Brian, I met you at Shockeysville family picnic last year. How are you? Sounds like you have been very busy. How is the gorgeous dog you had with you? In your email you indicate you can send a copy of your info directly. Does that mean by email or snail mail? If by email, I look forward to seeing what you have accomplished to date. If by snail mail send to Carole Shockey 411-2 Piccadilly Pl San Bruno, CA 94066 Thanks for sharing your info. Carole

Looking over new data and old makes me believe that James M. Shockey, listed as the son of James B. Shockey and Nancy Ross is actually not their son. 1830 Census shows James Shockey and lists 1 male under 5 (Martin P.); 1 male 10-15 (Who?); 1 male 30-40 (James B.); 1 female under 5 (Sarah Ann); 1 female 10-15 (Elizabeth); 1 female 15-20 (Pricilla) and 1 female 30-40 (Nancy). 1850 Census from Fleming County Kentucky lists James age as 24 (calculated to be 1825/26). Also includes his wife Augusta (Ross from additional information) and son James E. 6 months. A couple of farms away is James B. Shockey, age 59, b. Virginia; wife Sally (James 2nd wife after Nancy died abt 1833), 35; Lucy A, 19; George C.L., 15; Thomas P, 11; Edward F., 9; Nancy, 6; Leander T, 4; William, 3. Further evidence that James M. does not belong is there is no mention of him in the letter written by Lucy Ann Shockey, b. 1831 daughter of James and Nancy to her nephew A. R. (Alfred Robert) Biddle, son of Lucy's sister Elizabeth in 1910. Note must be taken that Lucy is 78 when she is writing this, and though seems lucid, may not remember everything. Point being is that she says that Thomas P. is her oldest brother and doesn't mention George and Martin is clearly older than Thomas P. Also, William (no initials) is only 3 in the 1850 census (calculated 1846/47) and the William Daniel Harrison listed in the database shows a birth date of 1840. Anyone have any ideas about the parentage of James M and/or William Daniel Harrison? Brian Schultz --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. I located a James M. Shockey, b Fleming County, KY with five siblings born there as well to James B. Shockey and Nancy Ross.James M was to an unknown woman with a son Henry Grant Shockey, born in Decatur, Macon County, IL. Henry married Emma Hayes. I have more information on this family. I was unable to find a Linn or Lynn Shockey in our database. The one Herbert does not match, nor do the Arthurs. The only Starcher in the database is a Kate Ashby, born sometime before 1883, married to a George Washington Coast. I am working on the main Shockey database and would be interested in updating our files with what you have. Looking forward to hearing from you. Hello Shockey cousins, I'm spending a great deal of time combining and editing our two databases. In doing so, I am looking for ways to make this as efficient as we can. Those of you working on the Shockey Database have been doing so far longer than I, so I'm open for any suggestions. I was planning on sending a file on a small family group that I've just updated with some new information that I've received. I was wanting to send it in two different formats- a Legacy 4 file and a GEDCOM. I'm not sure if you are able to import directly from a Legacy file and am not sure how much information gets lost in the GEDCOM. Unfortunately, the list wont accept attachments, so anyone that would like it can email me and I will send a copy directly. You can download Legacy 4 Standard version for free if necessary. I have been including information - including population, historical notes, latitude and longitude - for each location that people find worth having. It's one of the things that I am doing as I go through the database, checking the accuracy of locations. Is it possible to include this information in your database and future CD? Also Les, I've changed all locations to long form as you have been thinking of doing (ie. Auglaize County instead of Auglaize Co., etc), and going thru the location list to standardize them all, so I have done much of that leg work already. One thing that I am also doing is incorporating the ID numbers used in the "Shockey History and Genealogy" books. My thoughts are if we use this standard (slightly altered) we can easily use the User Id's when merging data, as well as giving people a reference number. My altered form is using SHK in front of the ID used in the books as well as adding a W1 or W2 etc for first wife and second wife, and H1 or H2 for first husband, etc. The SHK is only so I can use this same method for other lines. I'm also changing things for documenting the sources some. I am incorporating as much of the notes into events and sources as I can. You can get an idea from the file I've included. My reasoning for this is to document where each bit of information comes from as much as I can. Also Marie, what is the availability and pricing of the Shockey History and Genealogy books? It would sure help me in documenting sources to have a copy and I have just been asked by someone else that would like a copy. Looking forward to any and all thoughts and comments. Hello Shockey cousins, I have been wanting to write this for several weeks but everything possible has gone wrong here the past few weeks. Please read all of the following and take the time to visit the two links that I have included. I will be moving the master Shockey database to this new genealogy software in the very near future. The Family Origins software that we have been using is being replaced with software called RootsMagic. Both products were written by Bruce Buzbee who uses the business name FormalSoft, Inc. Full details of the new software can be found on the following page: http://www.RootsMagic.com Please take a few minutes and look at the feature list of this new software at: http://www.rootsmagic.com/features.htm As I understand it, Bruce first signed an agreement with Parsons Technology about 12 years ago giving them the marketing rights to Family Origins. Parsons Technology sold out to Broderbund who was bought out by Mattel who then sold the genealogy product rights to Genealogy.com. Genealogy.com has controlled the marketing rights the past few years but did not want to push the product (in fact they wanted to kill it off) as they were losing too many of their sales of Family Tree Maker to people switching to the better and less expensive program Family Origins. Bruce tired to obtain the marketing rights back to FormalSoft but Genealogy.com did not want this either. As a result Bruce has spent the past eighteen months creating the all new RootsMagic. Although RootsMagic is scheduled to ship in late January, Bruce is offering it for those who want to order it early (for yourself or a friend). It is available at the introductory price of $19.95 plus shipping/handling (the price of RootsMagic will be $34.95 after February 28th, 2003). You can also order One (1) copy of RootsMagic and one (1) copy of the book "Getting the Most Out of RootsMagic" to be shipped in January 2003 at the introductory price of $29.95 plus shipping/handling. Either way there is to be a copy of "Place Finder USA" included. This is also software written by Bruce Buzbee and by itself is worth the cost of RootsMagic. As a further note, I talked to Bruce for about one hour on the telephone. He lives near the 2003 reunion site and will gladly spend an afternoon or evening with those of us that are interested showing just how powerful this genealogy software is and answering any questions that any of us might have.
