I have 12 children listed for Abraham & Margaret Shockey. Abraham was born July 1755, died January20, 1860 in Washington Co., Oh. Children: Valentine, Abraham, Susan, John, Margaret, Barbara Ellen, May , Catherine, Jacob, Nancy, Rachel Jane, Elizabeth. Recently someone told me that there was another child, Joseph, however they did not list Valentine. I hope you can correct this information for me from the Shockey Chronicles. Thank you. Hello, I am a new cousin(I think) as I have just found that the maiden name of my ggg-grandmother Adeline who married John Rosenbaum in Elk Lick, Somerset County, PA was SHOCKEY! Looked through all the archives and could find nothing of this connection. Does anyone know if this is proven? I also found a site that said she died in June of 1914 but no location so I can't check. I know that John died in Grayling, Crawford County, Michigan in 1894. Up to now the only thing I could find was her name Adeline in the 1850 census, and "ERTLINE" in the 1880 census. Hope this works out as I certainly enjoy the stories about the Shockeys! Marianne

I am a descendent of Mary Esther Centennial SHOCKEY b. 1 Dec 1876 d. 28 Feb 1915 Mary had a brother John O. SHOCKEY b.24 June 1862 d. 25 July 1957. They are two of the children of Christian W. SHOCKEY & Anna HOOVER from Franklin County PA. Does anyone know the name of John's wife? How many children he had? Any other pertinent facts? [I found a letter written by my grandmother to John and his wife in 1907 in MO. In the letter she uses the name Girtie or Gertie. Is this a possible name for John's wife?] I know that he resided in Missouri. Hi Marie, I haven't been such a good correspondent lately because I am out of the country so much. I teach English to foreign businessmen in their country. I spent much of 2001 in Austria and have just returned from spending the Fall, until last month, in Japan where I was working for the Asian Olympic Winter Games in northern Japan. Next stop is Mexico, then Russia in the Fall again. I hope to visit my friend in Germany, too, the only survivor of U-869. His story was featured in the NOVA/PBS film on which I worked (see titles) and which was broadcast on PBS in 2000. So this is a peculiar retirement, but it is fun. When I am home I have a weekly German-language broadcast on WRFR, a local FM station. Son Sven and wife Gayle (Washington D.C.) have a one year old baby boy, Björn now. I have been blessed with good health and am taking advantage of that fact. Life in Maine is fine, except for the burst water pipes and wind blowing shingles off the house. Spring will come, they say.
