    3. Kenneth - Everything I have ever seen has his name shown as Ransom. There are some people who have interpreted some census records as Ranson, but then I don't put much stock in census records (unless its the only thing I have!) for things like the spelling of names. I usually look for other records, like marriage records, birth/death records, pensions or wills/probates and court records. Also, Enoch named a son Ransom, I'm assuming after his brother (not a proven relationship yet, just highly suspected!)... I'm going to type up that Ransom estate this evening if I have a chance, and I'll be sure to post a message to the list with the address of the page and the link when I do. It is always possible that Brinson was a corruption of Ransom, but then if he was actually called Brinson, I doubt it. It's also possible that it was a name used in one of the matriarchal lines that we just haven't run across yet... Ransom seems to be a fairly popular Southern name. I've run across it in the process of doing other extractions of Georgia records etc., so it may have just been "the fashion" then (sort of like Jared and McKenzie are now... <vbg>). It could also have been a surname (as we suspect that Manning and Fleming were). No telling at this point! :-) Mary Kathryn -- Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@attglobal.net My Home Page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy/ South King Co. Gene.
