Jimmy - I think I have responded to you on this before, but it is my belief (and I think it is backed up with some "evidence") that the children listed on the 1850 Dale Co., AL census are NOT Elijah's children. They appear to be his brother Daniel's children, based on Abraham Shiver's will, which lists a Leweezer (Louisa) and Mentena (Mentney) as children of Daniel's (deceased). Daniel died around 1833, his wife (from information I have seen) died around 1835, thus leaving their two youngest children orphaned. My assumption is that Elijah and his wife Nancy took them in and raised them. The only children I have so far for Elijah and Nancy are your Amanda who md. Joshua LEE and Jane who md. Uriah BRACEWELL. Does anyone else concur with this (or disagree strenuously)? And if so, can you tell me what you base your conclusions on? These families really are tricky to figure out, and sometimes we have to go on conjecture and "gut-level" feelings... Thanks!
