Being everyone is so quiet, thought I would put up one of the old letters from my file and this was dated June 14, 1982, from the late D.E. Cain, Sr, who lived in Enterprise, AL, about 20 miles from my home. We never met. At top of this letter is handwritten: Jane Shiver Wingate, Daughter of Gussie W. Davis, lives in Headland. Headland is just north of Dothan. Dear Mr. Shiver: I am doing some research on the Shiver and Prestwood familys. Here I might mention here that the Shiver and Prestwood familys have inter married into each others familys ever sense they all lived in Wilkinson County, Georgia. We have traced the Shivers and the Prestwoods farther back than in Wilkinson County, Georgia. In fact they come to this country from Germany. They first settled in the Isle of Wight County, Virginia (he has us confused with the early Shivers family), before they findly settled down in Coffee, Dale and Pike County, Alabama. These familys together with others left Georgia and they cross the Chattachoochee River near Eufaula, Alabama. They then went clear across the state and s ettled for a short time in Green County. They then turn back almost back tracking them self before settling in Coffee and Dale County. Mr. Shiver, I want to ask you if you were a part of these Shiver family, and if you could tell me which one of these were your forefathers. There is A Abner B. and his wife Mary Shiver. They live near the Rockyhead Community and are buried in the Mt. Olive Cemeterey near the Rockyhead Baptist Church. Then there wee an A.S. (Abe) and Sarah Snellgrove Shiver. They are buried in the Ariton Cemetery. This Abe (A.S.), Shiver was my wife uncle. The only thing we been able to get on this family was, that they had two daughters. Mattie we are told married Dr. Roy Hart Norris, and the other Lucretia married R.S. Woolfolk. We do not know if they were other children in this family, so I wonder in you know any thing that will help to clear this up. Now let me tell you my connection into this Shiver family. My wife Lena was the daughter of John THomas and Hellena Milstead Shiver. John T was the son of Samuel Augustus and Sarah Prestwood Shiver. Samuel A was the son of Jacob Jr. and Sarah Shiver. I am retired and sense my retirement this has become my hobby. I have just finished a book on my family history, and if I can get enuff material on thse family I would like to have a small book publish on these familys. End of letter.
