    2. I would be interested in hearing about them as well. I am curious if just maybe there is a connection to the WARREN name here. My husband's BROCK line, which was closely associated with the SHIVERS in SW GA, included Ellender WARREN, b. abt 1820 in FL.... She m. John P. BROCK. Just a thought. Thanks Zou Feagin

    2. Hi, I am new to the genealogy world, and the computer world. My Florida family must be a missing link. My great grandfather was James A shiver, I just found generation 1 on the web, how wonderful! We have aleast 6 or 7 generations throughout the state of Florida. In May the Pompano Beach historical society dedicated a monument to the founders of Pompano Beach Fl. There were three Shivers on it: My grandfather Albert Jefferson Shiver & his brothers Nat Shiver & Jot Shiver. This line flows from Hamilton County Florida to Pompano Beach Florida. My Mother was a Shiver I have lots of dates and some stories as well. maybe this weekend I will have time to relay the info. Signed: The Lost Florida Shivers

    3. Mentioned last week microfilmed genealogical records of Leonardo Andrea related to a SHIVERS family in Chester Co, SC and Anson Co, NC during late 1700s early 1800s: William SHIVERS (abt 1763-1832) m. Rebecca MCCLENDON John Shivers m. Jemima BERRY Evan (Ivin) SHIVERS b.1802 Chesterfield Co SC m. Fairby BEASLEY (in Simpson Co., MS) William R (Buck) SHIVERS b. 7-22-1812 SC Tom SHIVERS Gilbert SHIVERS Blanche SHIVERS b. 1800 SC I remember that there were at least some information related to Rebecca MCCLENDON and a few pages related to Fairby BEASLEY and her family. Several of you were interested in additional information from the file. I 'm not sure how soon I will have another day in the library (they're only open during business hours) but there are at least 2 ways that you can easily obtain copies or view the film. (1) The Andrea Collection was microfilmed at the LDS library in Salt Lake City, and can be obtained for viewing at any of the LDS Family History Centers. If you have an LDS church in your area, this might be the easiest and least expensive way to do it, and you can view the file before deciding whether to spend money for copies. (2) The South Caroliniana Library houses a copy of the entire collection, and will make paper copies of any portion of the files for $0.50 per page plus postage. To order these copies you must contact the Library directly, and they will send you a "quote" that requires prepayment, at: South Caroliniana Library Manuscripts Division University of South Carolina Columbia, SC 29208 Phone 803-777-3131 Fax 803-777-5747 For either source, the information you will need to give them is "The SHIVERS surname file from the Leonardo Andrea genealogy collection." That particular file is 34 pages of Mr. Andrea's notes, copies of land purchase transactions, letters between himself and the Shivers individuals who commissioned his research, etc. Hope this helps a number of you! (BTW, the Andrea Collection contains 1000+ different surname files, ranging from a few pages to hundreds of page per name. An LDS Library should be able to get you a copy of the inventory of the collection: Index to Genealogical Folders in the Leonardo Andrea Collection (typescript; FHL book 975.7 D22a; film 908,685, item 6; fiche 6019560).

    3. Jim et al - I wonder if this could possibly be one of the "unknown" sons of Abraham? We have at least two sons without names in the database. One Mr. Shiver was born abt. 1788, the other about 1789 (these are guesstimates from very early census records). These young men would have been old enough to fight in the War of 1812 and given that they were so young (early 20s), it's likely that they had not married yet, and therefore perhaps his father handled his estate? I'm guessing here, but it would make sense. If he died without issue, that might explain why we don't know the names of those boys. (I actually have 3 unknown sons of Abraham in my database, so I'm interested in who the other 2 are as well...) Anyway, does anyone else have any ideas on this? 3. This is yet another one of the "Cabbage Patch" boys! For those like me who are related to the Acey Shiver line.. this may be of some interest. I have seen and heard that Acey Sr. may have come from Kentucky and some researches believe that he was a son of Jacob. The question of course is which one and why would he come from Kentucky! I think this Lowdown County Va. is present day Kentucky from what others have told me. If so, this could give us a hole new area to research. Anyway, I can't seem to match this one up either. BTW, I will also be sending a transcription for a David Shiver land deed dated in the late 1700's which from the date would leave one to believe that maybe John Shiver did have a brother(s). This information was also compiled by Mrs. Grace Garrett McIntyre, 21 April 1968 from data in the United States Dept. of History & Archives, Washington D.C. 3. Can any body help me figure out who this person was? The information was transcribed from the United Stated Dept. of History and Archives, Washington D. C. by Mrs. Grace Garrett McIntyre 21 April 1968. I had thought this was Jacob, son of John and Hannah but I'm not sure. It also refers to a "Letter of Administration to Abraham Shiver on the Estate of Jacob Shiver, Deceased". I did not find this letter in my research and it should explain just who his kids were if we could find it. The documents I picked up were at the Albany Library in Albany Ga. 1. [SHIVER-L] RE: John SHIVERS of MS line and more...
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Hi all! Things have really been moving on the mailing list, eh? :-) I can't tell you how glad I am to see that! Especially on the SHIVERS lines. I know that it can be a challenge tracing a similar name and separate line that seems to mimic another. Frustrating... And a big thank you again to Anna Mitchell for all the great information on the Cool Springs Cemetery and to John Arden Shiver for the misc. Shiver information from those books of his! I have been a bit out of touch lately, as I've had a million and one things going on. I'm seriously considering giving up my two USGenWeb pages (or asking for someone to help me run them--Monroe and Dougherty Cos. in GA; anyone interested? Contact me!), as I am just spread too thin. I haven't done any web page updates (my own or those) in ages and am feeling the guilt of not having manned them very well lately. I have gone now from someone who used to check her e-mail several times a day to someone who checks it about once a week! :-) I'm leaving on Monday to go to Utah for two weeks, and am still ambivalent about taking the laptop. Will have to see on that one. If you don't hear from me for a while, assume that I didn't take it! ;-) Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know what was going on and why I have been so silent lately... On to more interesting research information... Just thought I'd send you all interested in that John SHIVERS line in MS the following that I remembered I had in my research folder: >From (what appears to be, I only have the photocopied page I got from my uncle's ex-wife years ago) a county history (not even sure which county, maybe Simpson?), page 30. Please note that I'm typing it exactly as it appeared, typos and all, and also the BERRY surname that pops up: "SHIVERS SETTLED IN 1802 John Shivers with his wife moved to Mississippi Leauge, now the State of Mississippi, and settled in the Southern Part, now known as Simpson County. Evan Shivers (Born in 1802), son of John Shivers, married Pheriba Beasley (daughter of Daniel Beasley) and lived about one and one-half miles south of the now village plat of Shivers, Miss. Evans C. Shivers (born 1840), son of Evan and Pheriba Shivers, married Sarah Victoria Berry, and remained on the Shivers Plantation. Evan C. Shivers operated a farm, gin, and store and received mail for the community (then known as Salem) in his store. The Church at the time was known as Salem Church. When the U.S. Post Office Department wanted to establish a Post Office there, Evan C. Shivers sent in three names to name the Post Office, one of which was Shivers. Since there was a Post Office in the State of Mississippi already named for the other two names submitted, the Post Office Department asked Evan C. Shivers if it would be satisfactory to name the Post Office with the unique name of Shivers. The Post Office was named Shivers with Evan C. Shivers as Postmaster. Later Postmasters have been Sarah Victoria Shivers (widow of Evan C.), V. P. (Will) Shivers (son of Evan C.), Kate Patterson Shivers (Widow of V.P.), and Mrs. Annie Will Smith (daughter of V. P. Shivers). On June 6, 1903, the Plat of Shivers, Miss., was filed with the Chancery Clerk of Simpson County. The Church, formerly Salem, was named Shivers Baptist Church. Shivers was a thriving community with a number of stores, gins, sawmills, Post Office, Church, school, and with G&SI Railroad until the late 1920's when the Great Southern Lumber Company had completed cutting most of the pine timber and moved out. In the early 1930's Shivers settled down to two general stores, Post Office, Church, school and with the Railroad operating on a limited basis. At present Shivers still has the Church, Post Office, and one store." It appears that this article was written in the 40's or 50's. It contains a picture of the post office (at that time) and of the beautiful Shivers home built in 1907 in that area. There is also a picture of Pheriba Shivers with her daughter Emma Shivers Walker, her son-in-law Will Walker and two children, Lewis Myers and Belle Myers (relationship unknown). I have a very bad photocopy, so there is little hope that it would scan very well (at least the photo of the people). The post office and home might fair better. Also, you may be able just to find the older Simpson Co., MS county history and get a better copy of it yourself. Hope this information is helpful to someone! Take care all! Gathered only cursory information yesterday to get idea of what was in that particular file in case I had cause to go back for a more thorough review. Not sure how soon I can do it, but will gather more details and distribute here. I'm pretty sure that the library will copy the file for $0.35/page and mail. Let me know if you are interested in having the entire file, and I will get copy ordering info to you.

Please let me know if I can assist with any payment for records, etc. I have not had a chance to get back to the Carolinas. I have been anxious to connect William Shivers with the ancestor who came to the US. I have done much research in England and have quite a lot of notes about the English Chivers. 3. Cool Springs Reunion Report. There was very bad weather so I arrived a little late. Also due to the weather I didn't get a chance to look at any graves. Attendance was reportedly down due to the weather. I talked to Kurt Shiver, who knows a lot of the geneology information, but does not use a computer. He mentioned that the reunion was now mostly family descended from Marshall and Arkansas. We made plans to get together on the phone or in person so I could look at the guestbook and compare geneology notes. He gave me an address of someone who has some information on the Shivers, I plan to contact them and post any findings here. He did not know where any of the four brothers, Enoch, Manning, Fleming, and Ransom were buried. I spent the rest of the time socializing and EATING!! Shivers sure can cook! That's all for now, any of you who gave me graves to look for or photos you wanted, I will get back over there on a sunny day as soon as possible.
