It looks like I've missed a message. What kind of book are we talking about?
I just want to send a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have sent your thoughts and prayers at this time. I'm just grateful to have such a wonderful extended family! (No matter HOW extended!) ;-) I know things will be rough over the next few weeks, but eventually I believe that things will return to some semblance of normalcy (if my life was EVER normal <g>). Then we'll keep adding to the web site and finding more ancestors! Thanks again, you're all really wonderful! I have a lot of requests...if I post to the SHIVER group, will you get it? I want to try and explain why I haven't been very active with the web page or the lists. In the past month or so, I have had to go to work part-time (about 30 hours a week) to help pay some bills. In that same time, my mother slipped off my porch and tore her Achilles Tendon, requiring surgery. We have also had my mother-in-law in and out of the hospital with varying problems, and have only found out in the last two days that her body is riddled with cancer and that her kidneys are failing. I'm afraid that I haven't had much time to spend on the internet, and for that I apologize. It seems like I've done this a lot, and I apologize for that as well. I'm hoping that when things settle down that I'll be able to get some more work done on the web page... Here in Seattle, when it rains, it really POURS! Thanks for your understanding... Any body got access to this book? It may list some additional information on John Wm Shiver. I. D. Rupp's book "Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants In Pennsylvania" lists seven trips by Two Brothers to Philadelphia (1747-1753) listing male passengers 16 and older. Thanks Jim
As far as I'm aware, no one has pinpointed the parents of Fabian. I have written to this gentleman with my best guesses, but that's about it. I suspect he is probably somehow tied to the John (son of J&H) or James (son of J&H) lines. There are also several sons of Daniel that we can't account for, and there's nothing to say that they all stayed in SC (matter of fact, I suspect exactly the opposite is true and that some left SC and went to GA and perhaps on to AL with their uncles). We've got a new Shiver descendant from Noah to Fabian, in Columbus, GA. He has asked the question: Who were parents of Fabian. Does anyone have this readily available? I have found a new must have source for those researching in Alabama. It is an atlas of Alablama counties and incudes historical places, cemetery data, etc. The whole state is available or you can just order by county and it will be bound and sent out. Go to web site www.ua.edu/geography I ordered and received very promplty, data on several counties. There is cem data that can not be found on general highway maps. Gives some data on most cem and often includes most found family names in that cem. For instance, in Coffee County, AL show a Shivers Mill in west cen part of county and says that in New Hope Cem are a lot of Shiver graves. Also has a chart that shows evolution of Alabama counties since 1820. Cem locations are given as well as some old cem that locatons are unknown. Found one in Barbour County that I knew existed but wasn't on highway maps. Even told about the orginal name of cem.
My last e-mail was in response to this. I'm resending it, because for some reason I'm not sure that it made it to the list! :-) From: FREDUSMC2@aol.com To: Shiver-l@rootsweb.com I am forwarding this from another list.......I think it is a really neat idea and is only slightly off topic.<grin> ********************************************** Sent to me from the TUCKER list > > "The year 2000 is a Census Year. most of the census will be taken by mail, so after you have filled out your census form why not make a copy of it and file with your important papers. To be quite honest, if the 2000 Census is anything like the 1990 census, it won't be worth it! They don't ask you enough information to determine your parentage or heritage... There will be much more valuable ways for your descendants to learn something about you It is an interesting idea though, and I have seen it filtering its way through just about every list I am on... My father's name was Aaron John Shiver, I am John Aaron Shiver. I don't know very much about the Shiver family and would like to meet as many as I can so I may learn more about where the Shiver's came from. I would also be interested in the date for the ShIVER reunion. Thanks Linda GreatGrandaughter of Mary Elizabeth Dupree SHIVER and William Green SHIRAH
Well the first letter resulted in a lot of activity so here is another. By, the way, on this January 16, 2000, in lower Alabama, it is about 70 degrees and sunny. Oct 18, 1984 I have come across some-thing that I thought might be enteresting to you. Some few days back I was viewing some Georgia marriage records, and I found in Hancock County Georgia a marriage record dated July 11, 1838 to Fabian Shiver and Angeline Brown. I was also looking at the Dale County cesus records of 1870, and I found that on that date Angelines Mother Violette Brown was living with Fabian. I remember you stating that Noah S. mother died, and he was raised by the Bloudsworth family, and the records show that he was indeed raised by Milton and Carolett Bloudwirth. (Don't remember giving him this data - must have been someone else!) So, I believe Charolett must have been a sister also to Fabian. I also found a Charolett Shiver living with Abijia and Sarah Payne. So, if I can tie all this together. I believe Fabians father and mother was Abijah and Charolette Shiver. Abijah was a son of Jacob, Sr. and Dorcas Shiver. D.E. Cain, Sr. Here is another letter from another Shiver researcher, dated January 26, 1991. Dear John, Thanks very much for the letter and information. A little background: We lived in Ozark for seven years. I met your sister who worked for Dr. Lee. (My first cousin, who still works for him.) We visited you parents in Ashford and attended Shiver reunion in Pelham, GA. We have lived here for 5 1/2 years. S.A. Dewberry P.O. Box 144 Riverdale, GA 30274, tel: 996-7548 Note: I lived in Riverdale 1979-1983 and just missed them. Sid sent me several items of Shiver data over the years. Continued -- This man was doing Shiver research for someone and called my husband for information. Promised us a copy, but never sent it. He said Mr. Cain's research was inaccurate, because he though Jr. meant son of. I am sending Mr. Cain's letters to either help of confuse you. Noah (Col Noah Shiver) who I call Bob, retired from AF after 21 years and went into furniture business in Montgomery. Sold out after 11 years adn got is Realty Brokers License. He is now completely retired and 70 years (but very healthy and active). We hope to attend the Shiver reunion in October. Thank you very much for your help. Sarah Shiver I also have a letter or two from her brother, Noah, which I will later put up for your perusal.
I know some people in Dothan, whose father was a John Shiver. There are at least two sisters, and about 6 years ago, I appraised one of their homes and got into a conversation and found out who her father was. I can't think of her or her sister's married names. The third sister is ShaNah Shiver Martin, whose husband died about 3 years ago. Last I heard, she was a guidance counselor in Cottonwood H.S.
