Here is a great website for south Georgia obits. After the usual http and www then go to sgaonline.com/newsroom/index.html
She is in phone book and is still living where she lived in the 50's, which ws then her grandfather's farm, tht of William Loyd Shiver. Everyone knew Uncle Loyd as he ws once a county commissioner in Mitchell County and was a deacon at Cool Springs Bap Church for over 50 years.
Hello Guys: Help I need information held in the Library in Camillo, GA is this where you guys are talking about?? If so ok here goes. My Cousin thru my real Father is a Shiver his Father was John H. Shiver and his Mother was my Aunt Bessie Cothran. They married long ago in Turner County, GA. Ok now my Cousins were best friends with my later on down the road Step-Father. He was Nathan Wesley Newton son of James Wesley Newton and Mary Elizabeth Davis of Colquitt County, GA and then later on Worth County, GA. James Wesley Newton was the son of Daniel Jeptha Newton of the Civil War with the Taylor Guards out of Taylor County, Ga where he lived at the time. My Newton's connect to the Barfields of Camilla GA. Mary Elizabeth Davis was the daughter of Joshua Davis and Mary A. Emma Kilcrease of Camilla GA. Joshua Davis and Mary gave land for the cemetery where they lay burried. It is in an old Church yard going from OK now on this I am a bit shaky but If you go to Meigs which is just South of Pelham and then cut over to New Hwy 19 and go accross to Cario, GA and out of Cario take the road to Sylvester going West and keep on that main road Dad use to say they called that Hwy 80 or GA St. Rd. 80 I think. This takes you to another town outside of Sylvester, GA going West. Anyway out from Sylvester is a bridge and at this bridge on the East side was at one time a dirt road that went way back in there to a church. That is the land once owned by Joshua Davis and Mary A. Emma Kilcrease and they are both burried there up next to the church. Her marker is now gone however as she has been dead such a long time. Anyway. My Newtons connect over and over to Barfield and my Davis's to Kilcrease. Then my Cothrans to Shiver's. And they were all close friends back in GA. Can anyone out there help me with this?? I seek to find out who Johns H. Shiver's Father and Mother were. And also who Jousha Davis belonged to and to place these people back in Camilla, GA early on. I am very interested in finding out information regarding the Shiver Reunion in south Georgia. My father and uncle used to visit relatives in South Georgia in the 40's and 50's and would be very interested in going. My dad was especially interested in contact information for Calista Hooks. He remember's visiting her back in the 50's. If the reunion is coming up soon maybe we can arrange a pickup of the minutes. If someone could get me hard copies of the minutes, I'd be happy to type them up and get them on the web site. Actually, doing that kind of word processing (for me) goes really fast and doesn't take much time to upload. It's creating the web pages and getting that data entered that is time-consuming, since I have to put in the HTML code as I go. Just let me know. If someone has them or could snail mail them to me, I'd be happy to do that! The last I heard, Pam Jones was the secretary. Her mother was a Shiver. I believe she is a school teacher in either Camilla or Pelham. She should have the minutes. It would be great if we could put that information on the Shiver website, especially for those who live far away from there. The reunion started many years ago and the last time I attended was about 20 years ago. My dad, who is now 85, usually gets a notice every year. He knows who Pam's mother is/was, but could not think of it. We have a cousin who still lives in Camilla and is in her 70's and she knows Pam. Her name is Calista Hooks, who still lives on her Grandfather Shiver's homeplace, 6 mi east of Camilla. She has more Shiver blood than anyone I know as both her grandparents, on her mother's side, were Shivers and her father's mother was a Shiver, and both her parents were Shivers. Her grandfather Shiver raised my grandfather Shiver as they were bro in law and my grandfather's father, a civil war vet, had died in Worth County.
You and your family will be in all our thoughts and prayers.May God be with you in your hour of need. " A Shiver Cousin" Linda Ciparro Ft Lauderdale Fl

Anyone here in vic of Camilla? Last I knew, Pam Jones was secretary of the reunion committee. Wouldn't it be great if we could get all these minutes online so that we all could see the information. Just a thought!
Ditto here. GEt the treatment from all those names as well as "Shirah." Been having a running battle with GTE as they had my name spelled, "Schiver." When I ws stationed in Berlin, the Brits always told me, "your name is Shreiber, and you're a kraut.!" From the Shiver side, don't know what I am, just a lot of speculation.
Thanks much, will soon start putting more of the letters from Mr Cain on Shiver site as soon as I get over my laziness. One of these days I plan to stop and go into the Pea River Gen Society office in Enterprise, which is just down the street from the Boll Weevile Monument, downtown. I believe they probably have one of his books there, as that is where he lived, and so far as I know, his son still lives.
Jim, Since Barnaby is mentioned, I would place him squarely in the Shivers (short i) family. I have noticed, as you probably have also, that it is not uncommon for members of the Shivers family to be written without the ending "s" and members of the Shiver family to be written with it. If I had a dollar for everytime my name has been written or pronounced with an "s" on the end I wouldn't have to work, although lately Shriver is more common (thank you Maria). Any body wana take a stab at this one. It's been in my unsolved mystry files for a very long time. John: I have some pages from the D.E. Cain book...I've been scanning them to send to interested SHIVER/PRESTWOOD researchers. Also included are the pages on the PELHAM family with connections to our branch of the SHIVERs via a marriage between Elmedia SHIVER and Perry Allen JONES, a PELHAM descendant. Since I sent the message to the list, I realized that we cannot attach files to list messages, so, I'm sending them via e-mail. As I previously noted, I hope that I'm not stepping on any toes by doing this. Since I made the copies around 20 years ago the original book has "walked" from the library, so I cannot recopy crooked pages, get a copy of the frontispiece, etc. I tried every way I knew to copy the scanned text to an e-mail without doing it via an attachment, but could not, and settled on sending individual e-mails. If any of you computer geniuses out there know how I can do this, send instructions! I use Internet Explorer. I have the following people on my send list: Mary K, Jim S, Dan W, P.J., Nancy S, Jill S, Laura H, Carol S, Mary F, Ronnie, and Kenny. If you, or anyone else, want copies, please let me know, and I'll add your e-mail to my list. People interested in the Cain book must realize that it contains some erroneous information - however, there are lots of tidbits that will furnish clues for further research. Mr. Cain did a great service, and I, for one, applaud him. He got all his data the hard way - without the internet!
