Does anyone have a record that shows the names of the children of Elijah and Nancy Shiver. Elijah and Nancy are my ggggrandparents. Their daughter Amelia married my gggrandaddy Joshua Lee. They were all living in Dale County in the mid 1800's. I wasn't sure that Amelia was a Shiver until one of Joshua's ggrandson's found a scrap of paper that his mother had written years ago. She had written on it that Joshua Lee married a Shiver. She also wrote that Joshua died of pneumonia in Virginia in1864. On the 1870 Dale County Census Nancy Shiver is living with Amelia Lee and her children. It lists Amelia and some of the children and then for some reason it lists the rest of the children and Nancy Shiver many pages on down the census. It kept the same house number though. I am really trying to prove that the Jane married to Uriah Bracewell is Amelia's sister. On the 1860 Dale Census Elijah and Nancy are living with Uriah and Jane. Jane also had a son named Elijah. Thanks a lot Jimmy Davis

Nancy - This Polly is Mary (or Polly) DELK Shiver, wife of Warren SHIVER. Now, who Warren belongs to is a mystery at this point. They were married in Laurens Co., GA on 5 Apr 1835. Her father is most likely Elisha DELK, who died in 1838. There is an interesting string of court entries about his estate, which was being handled by Warren SHIVER and Absalom E. PAYNE. In Mar 1838 it is entered that they are mismanaging the estate, and by Jul of the same year they are being dismissed as administrators for mismanagement... Warren himself appears to have died 9 Feb 1843 (I believe this is from the James & Polly Shiver Bible). The children listed as Miranda (who eventually became the 2nd wife of Absalom E. PAYNE (his first wife was Sophronia LOFTIN). Absalom and Miranda married 9 May 1855, and she was 24 years his junior. Miranda died 8 Oct 1925 and is buried in Beersheba Cemetery, Dale Co., AL. Interesting to note that their first son was named Warren... The other children of Warren and Mary (or Polly) DELK were: Laura Ann (b. 1837), Julian (male, b. abt. 1840), Warren, b. abt. 1842, and then there is Russell... A problematic child if Warren did indeed die in 1843, as he is estimated in the census to have been born in 1846... Hmmmmm.... ;-) Also, (although I can't find it right now of course...), I believe there is a DELK woman living next to Polly (can't remember now if I thought it was her sister or her mother; can't remember her age). That was what first tipped me off that this was most likely Warren's wife, then started looking into things a little more closely... So, now you know what I know (which isn't a whole lot I'll grant you!) :-) Mary Kathryn -- Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@attglobal.net My Home Page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy/ South King Co. I believe John is right. According to info I have collected my greatgrandfather Alexander Shiver and Mary E. Williams Shiver moved away from the Camella area around the turn of the century and moved to Manchester. It is probably the marraige announcement of one of their children. I would like to get a copy. I was born in Manchester. Thanks Mr. Arden but I don't think that was it. They were all from around camilla. I remember seeing it on a mitchell county census as a mancher district or something also. I guess I will call the courthouse and see if they recall that place. They meant Manchester, which is on state Hwy 85, north of Columbus, on way to Atlanta.
Does anybody know where Mancher Georgia was? One of the Camilla Enterprise's marriage announcement of 1916 states that the couple was from Mancher Georgia. I believe it is or was very close to Camilla but am unsure where it was located. Anybody have any idea? Tammy stbrooks@bellsouth.net -
