>From Ga Gen Magazine, #1-4, 1961-2: April 61, Baldwin Co, Ga, Abraham Shiver applies for admin on estate of Jacob Shiver, Jr, and Isaac Shiver, March 2, 1814. >From unknown source: Grave found in Antioch Church Cem , Chesterfield Co, SC: Col William Shiver, born June 12, 1811 -- died June 25, 1901. >From a 1983 letter from Mrs Cowart Sanders, 509 Orange Street, Troy, AL 36081 (She was working on a Shiver line from those in Ala) Some Shiver researchers: Mr John P Johnston, 253 Nassau Street, Brundidge, AL. Has written book on Johnson-Prestwood Family. Prestwoods and Shiver families, it appears, were in Ga together and moved to Ala together and have intermarried. (THis is covered in Drexel's book.) Mrs Patricia Dewberry Rt 2, Box 190 Brundidge, AL 36010 (Sid Dewberry from Ga was researching the family at one time. Could he be a relative. Haven't heard from him in several years.) Mrs Argie Ruth (Mrs Coston) Bragg Rt 2 Jay, FL 32565 Mrs Don R Honeycutt 4426 Sutton Ln Corpus Christi, TX 78411 She is researching family of Jacob and Catherine Cooper Shiver line. Letter from Mrs Doris Doss, 930 Glenwood Terrace, Anniston, AL 36201, May 10, 1979: My line is as follows: Doris Payne Doss dau of Maude Lee Ella Amos, b Aug 5, 1893 and Elisha L Payne, born Feb 19, 1892 grandau of Ruth Jane Rainwater, born Dec 7, 1865 and Elisha L Payne, born Mar 10, 1860 great grandau of Angeline (Shiver?) born ca 1822, Ga and John W Payne, born Ca 1816, Ga. In the book, "37,000 Early Ga Marriages" I found the following marriages listed in Laurens Co, Ga. Payne, A.J. marr Jane Shiver, April 8, 1834 Payne, George mar Milly Shiver, Feb 9, 1823 Payne, John marr Augatine Shiver, May 12, 1836 (these two I believe to be my great grandparents - their first child was born ca 1838.) I requested a copy of marrage records from Laurens County with the thought that the name had been copied incorrectly from the register. Laurens County sent me a certified marriage certificate with the names of John Payne and Angatine Shiver typed in - a change in spelling but not Angeline as spelled in census records. A second request for a copy of original records was unsuccessful. We have found an L.C. D. Payne in census records of 1850 and 1860 near or in next dwelling to John and Angeline. Land records of John and Angeline have also been witnessed by L.C.D. and his wife, which leads us to believe L.C.D. (Lewis Clark Davis) and John were brothers. L.C. D. Payne married Elender Desdin , Nov 6, 1841 in Pulaski Co, Ga, which adjoined Laurens. Idonia Shiver, 37, widow, step dau, appears in household of L.C.D. Payne in 1880 census of Floyd Co, along with son, Jefferson D Shiver, 17, all born in Ga. I have sent for will of Abraham Shiver, dated 1844, Pulaski Co, Ga, Will Book A. This this is Angeline's father, I hope he will name her in will as John W Payne's wife. I have also requested will of Geo Payne, dated 1831, Laurens Co, Will Book 1, page 135, I hope this will also help me. I copies census records of 1820-30-40--see attached. The first names John, William, George, Absalom, Elisha, Franklin, Thomas, D Webster are names of John and Ageline's sons in 1850 and 1860 census of Floyd County. I have not been able to find them in census records after 1860. The names, George, Elisha and Franklin carry into my generation. We find John and Angeline in Floyd County Land records in 1848; and in 1868, Angeline released her dower rights and stated her husband was deceased. We have no trace of Angleine after that. Where was she buried??? No will for either John or Angeline. Their child, Daniel Webster, appears in the Rainwater Bible records with wife and children. L.C. D. Payne was buried in the Primitive Bap Church Cem at Wax, Ga, according to Annetta Payne of Tyler, TX, who is tracing this line. They found his grave but not John or Angeline's. We have been told many of Rainwater and Foster Chapel Cem betweenCedartown and Rome, but have been unable to locate. Believe Paynes could also be buried there. End of letter. Hope this gave someone some food for thought. Might have another letter somewhere and if so, will put it up when found.
These items came from a misc Shiver file. If anyone is interested in history of Shivers, Miss, I have an article on that also. I have the four page will of Jacob Shiver of the County of Coffee, inthe State of ALa, dated 1859, Dec 1st that names children, kin and slaves.Names hs wife as Catharine M Shiver. Also have an application for DAR membership from descendant of John Shivers, pvt from NJ, who married Zipporah Cheeseman. He was born Glou Co, NJ in Livewell, 1738. Their children were: Samuel, born Oct 5, 1768, married Karen Garwood Sarah, born 1770 marr James Hurley Isaac, marr Susan Rachel, born 1776, marr Joseph Garwood Ann, May, John Amy, who marr a Thompson. Don't know if this helps anyone but had it in my file for over 20 years. I've been up a lot of blind alleys. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------- I found two letters from Mrs Doris Doss, 930 Glenwood Terrace, Anniston, AL 36201, Nov 8, 1979. She thinks that Angeline was her great grandmothr and had some data from county officicial marr records that spelled it Augeline ?? Thnk you so much for the Payne information. Our Absalom was in Floyd County in 1860 at age 15, but we know there was a family related to ours somewhere in Alabama, and this could certainly be the lead we have needed. I have not seen the name Violet in the Payne line, but looking back through me material, the George Payne who marr Milly Shiver in Laurens Co, 9 Feb 1823 had a witness to his will named Violet Brown. The library here borrowed on inter-library loan, the marriage records and records of wills of Laurens Co, Ga, 1809-1840. I found what seems to be two Payne families, and the George Payne-Milly Shiver marriage (could this have been a second marriage?). The Shiver names do not match those named in Abraham Shiver's will. Some of the Paynes do not match do not match those named in George Payne's will. Early Laurens County Marriages: Payne, Martha - Lambert Lovinski 15 Jan 1822 Payne, George - Milly Shiver, 9 Feb 1823 Payne, John, Angeline Shiver, 12 May 1836 Payne, A. J., - Jane Shiver 8 April 1834 Payne, Moriah - Shiver, John 1 Jan 1845 Mrs Doss says that her grandfather, Elisha L Payne was youngest son of marriage of John Payne and Angeline Shiver. Shiver, James -- Polly Shiver (prob 2nd marr), 5 June 1823 Shiver, Warren - Mary Delk 5 April 1835 Shiver, Martha - Doll, Abram 29 Aug 1841 Shiver, Jane - A. J. Payne 8 April 1834 Shiver, John - Moriah Payne, 1 Jan 1845 I hope that this helps someone and know that some of it is a repeat of what we might already know. Have another letter from Mrs Doss and will put it up at a later date. Also plan to put up data on Marion and Jefferson Shiver as contained in the lady's letter, just as soon as I decipher the two letters. Does anyone need the will of Jacob Shiver put up??
Well SHIVER researchers, we're up for a chat this Sunday at 6 PST/9 EST! We've decided (in true Julie Andrews style) to start at the very beginning! We're going to spend our chat time this week trying to get all the facts together (and hopefully documentation as well) about John & Hannah as well as their known children (including those daughters). So put on your thinking caps, grab those papers, and meet us in the GAGenWeb chat room at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/chat.htm Hope to see you there! Time for me to check in again with my Shivers tree. I was unaware of the Shivers book, or Allen Shivers, the once-governor of TX. My tree previously ended at James Allen Shivers until I picked up Allen Shivers, b 1815 from census, and found a reference to a "Jack" Shivers at the Houston GA genweb site. THis is for those of you who have not had the chance to see History of Worth County, GA, which I found in Lib of Congress in about 1978. From page 493-98: J. Hugh Shiver was born in Brooks County, He enlisted in Confederate Army in Brooks County in 1861 and served during the four years of the war. He came to Worth County soon after the war was over and married Lizzie Shiver, a distant cousin. He was a farmer--it was the life he loved. He quietly returned to the pursuits of peace and with energy , industry and perseverance did his part toward restoring his beloved Southland which had been devastated by the war. To the union of J. Hugh Shiver and wife Lizzie Shiver, eight children were born. Lard M. married Martha Ellen Calhoun. Hard S. married first, Betsy Calhoun-- second Mindie Moree. Bob married Jean Shiver; Mittie married Hyson Shiver; Lou married Sam Calhoun. On September 17, 1889, J. Hugh with Buddy Shiver and Henry Rouse were going to Albany when a thunder storm overtook them. They go out of their vehicle and sought the shelter of a tree. Lightning struck the tree and killed all three at the same time. J. Hugh and his brother "Buddy" Shiver are buried in the same grave at Bethel Church Cemetery. He has many descendants in this County who have always been numbered with her best citizens. They early members of the Shiver family lived in the Western part of the County. The land that Sylvester stands on was first owned by a Shiver. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ In his papers found at the Albany Library, and in Drexel Shiver's book, Ivey Monroe Shiver recounts this incident. Ivey Monroe Shiver wrote a history of the Manning Shiver family in 1950, but I have not been able to see the whole work. He also tells in his papers about the Shiver cem on the road from Albany to Sylvester, that had just about been overtaken by the woods in the years before 1950. I hve a couple of letters from Mrs. Aultman, one of his descendants, who even thought aged at the time, went to the Old Bethel Cem and copied down all the Shiver graves and sent the list to me about 1978. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------- Regarding last week's obit on John Henry Shiver's death in Lakeland, FL at age 84. He ws son of Nelson Shiver, who married Ella Mulford. Nelson was born in Worth Co, May 8, 1880 and was my grandfather's brother, and the son of Anthony and the grandson of Ransom, son of whom we all would like to know!!!
I have a copy of the book and will do lookups for anyone who is interested. Please be advised that the book has no index but I will try to do the best I can. I have spent a great deal of time with the book in my research of the Shivers (with an s) family.

According to SSDI D.E. Cain, Sr died 20 Dec 1992 in Enterprise, Coffee County, AL. I assume that his son, D.E. Jr is still living in the vicinity. I have his book...at least the part of it that refers to the Shiver Family. Beginning on page 296 he says: (Caps mine STS) "Our SHIVER ancestor came to America from Germany. In 1659 we find a Thomas CHIFFERS buying a large farm in Surry County, Virginia. "The SHIVER name was changed some six times before all families finally settled on using the current spelling. The earlier spellings were: CHIFFERS, in the above land purchase (used only once), CHIVARS, CHEVERS, SHEAVERS, SHIVAR, SHIVERS and SHIVER. Given names frequently used by the early settlers were Thomas, John, Jacob, Abraham and Sarah. "By looking at the resesarch done by Dr. M.O. SHIVERS, I believe that the John SHIVER in Rowan County, North Carolina, is the father of Jacob SHIVER. I feel that I am safe in saying that this Jacob SHIVER is the father of the Jacob SHIVER who brought his family to Alabama in the 1830's, and settled in Pike County, Alabama. I also believe that the Thomas CHIFFERS mentioned earlier is the father of the John SHIVER in Rowan County, North Carolina." (Cain places this John as the husband of Hannah, and the father of the South Carolina group. STS) Mr. Cain goes on to list the children of John and Hannah, but concentrates from there on the descendants of Jacob SHIVER b abt 1790; died abt 1825, and their Alabama connections. HE DID NOT DOCUMENT! NOT ANYTHING! Mary K; when you go to SLC you might look up the book by M.O. SHIVERS. I've heard about it, but never seen it. Point of interest. The govenor of Texas in 1949 era was Allen B. SHIVERS. I went to his archives and museum in Woodville, TX in the early 70's. Most of the genealogy was from the g-mother of Allen B., who brought her family, complete with household goods and servants from MS to east Texas by covered wagon...nothing back from her except the reference from M.O. SHIVERS.... The one thing that stayed with me from that trip was the portrait of the Govenor over the fireplace in the museum...he looked almost exactly like my husband at age 40-45; and a cousin of the late govenor, who I intervied hoping she could shed some light on the SHIVER/SHIVERS connection, said that Jamie walked exactly like Allen B.! (Of course, that and a dollar will buy you a soda!) I'll be glad to look up anything from the CAIN book for any one of the group who's interested. Shirley
In a letter of June 25, 1976, they wrote: The location of familes the age grojpds indicate that Manning Shiver, Sr was the son of either Jacob Shiver, Jr or John Shiver and that they were sons of Jacob Shiver, Sr. I will continue to trace old wills and other documents that are located in the State Archives in Atlanta. Anyone having information that will add to what I have already gathered or that will assist me in my research is requested to make same available to me. In addition to the above information Peggy and I are attempting to put together a complete record of the descendants of Asa Curtis and Daisy Green Shiver. This record will include all names, dates of births, deaths and marriages down to the present date. I will try to include current mailing addresses and telephone numbers and will try to make all of this available to the "Shiver Reunion" committee. If the other branches of Dow Shiver descendants will gather similar information, Peggy and I will attempt to put it in order and type all information in the same format so that if the reunion members would like to have it printed they may do so. Burton M Wamble husband of Peggy J Shiver Wamble June 25th, 1976 An earlier address for them was Rt 1, Box 336, Cairo, GA 31728. Does anyone know their whereabouts?
Finally, in one of my folders, I found this data: From: NC Dept of Cultural Resources, Raleigh, NC, 27611, 8-15-78. File Ref: S.S. 761 Rev Military Papers, 1792-1821, No. 38, John Shaver, etals, (Xerox copy by NC State Archives.) The committee to whom was referred the petition of Malachi Taylor and Wife, Minny, as heirs of George and Stokes Rochell, John Sowell as Heir of Isaac Sowell, The Heirs of John Shavers, The Heirs of James Shiver, and Mary Newborn, in behalf of The Heirs of her deceased Husband Thomas Newborn. Report that it appears to your committee the said, George Rochell and Stokes Rochell, Isaac Sowell, John Shavers, James Shiver and Thomas Newborn, were soldiers in the line of this state as the Continental Estabishmentn the Revolutionary War with Great Brittain and entitled to bounty land warrants for whom never having been issued, therefore recommend the following resolution: -- -- O. Steele Resolved , that the Sec of State be directed to issue warrants for bounty land as follows. No. 140 To the Heirs of James Shivers, two hundred seventy five acres. No. 141 To the Heirs of John Shavers, two hundred thirteen acres. 16 December 1806 By order of John Moore In Senate 16 December 1806, the foregoing report being read, resolved that the house concur herewith By Order: M Stokes, Clerk The acknowledgement for those two bounties were signed for by the same person, whose name is nearly impossible to decipher. Appears to be Signed by Tom J Mooring, 20 Dec 1806. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------- This is a copy of a handwritten document in much of the old Germanic type and early English type script and as such is hard to follow. Amount of land was determined by the length of service. Somewhere I have another slip of paper telling tht Shavers received two parcels of land in Ohio that was sold by family. I have seen records that showed that John Shavers served in NC Line in Col Abraham Sheppard's Regiment. Several of those of the Shivers fmily were also in that regiment. James Shivers could have been one of them. In Mrs Grace McIntyre's papers in Albany library is copies of correspondence with NSDAR showing tht Shavers was John Shiver, our ancestor and where NSDAR assigned a patriot number to him, and the information was in one of their issues of the magazine. Later, I will put up a copy of Mrs McIntyre's NSDAR application that was approved for her membership in that organizatiion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------- Here is another old letter from my files that I will throw in for free. Believe that Drexel Shiver might mentiin this family in his book. 6449 Lanier Road Morrow, GA 30260 March 25, 1979 Dear Sir: In reading the gen column in today's Atlanta Journal that you were compiling records on the Shiver family. I grew up in Abbeville, SC and now am 55 years old. As a child I knew Mr Sam Shiver who lived there and at that time was quite elderly. He was in is 80's when he passed away. He was a railroad engineer and piloted the first passenger train into Atlanta, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad ran in 1892. I do not know how long Mr Shiver lived in Abbeville, but his home is still standing just a few blocks up the street from the RR Station. Mr Shiver had a son, Sam Shiver, Jr, who at one time was a professor at Emory Univ near Atlanta. I do not know where he is now. I suggest that you contact Mrs Mary Stark Davis, Stark House on North Main Street, Abbeville, SC, 29620 and she might be able to shed some information on this Shiver family, or tell you where Sam Shiver, Jr lives. Mrs Davis is now 94 years old and her mind is perfectly clear. Best of luck to you. Respectfully yours, T.C. Hafner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ Any comments? Does anyone know if Mr Cain is still living? He is the man in Enterprise, AL, believe he was D.E. Cain, who was working on a Shiver family book. Also looking for Peggy and Burton Wamble, who had lived in Jonesboro until he retired from State of Ga in early 80's and then moved up toward Kennesaw and now I can't fnd them. Peggy is descended from Manning Dow Shiver family of Mitchell County, GA and were helping in the job of finding out who was father of Enoch, Fleming, Manning, Ransom, etc. It seems that they have gone to foreign fields or have vanished off the face of the earth. They had a theory on who was our lost forefather adn would like to see if they have anything new.
Hi gang! Here is the list of some of the Shivers buried in Day Cemetery, Day (Lafayette County, Florida). Some of the names are not familiar to me but some of them I think fit right in! Hope this helps somebody! Tracie Crawford
Hello all from snowy Salt Lake! Just thought I'd drop a note and let ya'll know that I've gone and found 3 new (to me) SHIVER women in the 1800-1815 birth year range. Let me know if any of you know anything about these ladies, but I suspect we are beginning to find some of those women who we can't find spaces for with Abraham, Jacob, Daniel and James. Also I'll include an update on some bounty land grant info. I found. Here goes: 1819 Bounty Land Grants for Laurens Co: (LDS Film #0417021) George PAYNE 2 Axion? CALHOUN 1 Samuel CALHOUN 1 Lidia CALHOUN (widow) 1 Joseph CALHOUN 1 James LAWSON 2 Jacob SHIVER Jr. 1 Nicholas SWILLY (Revolution) 4 Abraham SHIVER 2 Burrell SHIVER 2 Daniel SHIVER 2 James SHIVER 2 This pretty well goes along with what I had "thought" I saw in the 1820 Laurens Co. Census. In other words, there are more SHIVERs there than can be accounted for in the index! There are two Daniels in the 1820 Laurens Co. Census, one Daniel Jr. and one Daniel Sr. Remember that this does NOT necessarily mean that they are father and son. Often it just meant that one was older than the other (and it may have only been by a few years). It was NOT used then like it is now to exclusively indicate a relationship of father to son. I believe that Daniel Sr. is the son of John & Hannah (J&H from now on--no laughing Jim!), and the other (Daniel Jr.) is probably Daniel, son of Abraham. I believe James to be the son of J&H as well. Abraham is also a son of J&H. Burwell is a son of Abraham (I also double checked the 1820 census, which reads as Burel, not Bevel, as some have read it--including me in the past!); I'm sure this is Burwell, listed as Burel--Burrelle--as we have seen him listed in other locations). I even found him listed as Burl in the Laurens Co. land records! I believe that Jacob Shiver Jr. is Jacob, son of Jacob, son of J&H. He married Sara Ann SWILLY, and you'll notice that Nicholas SWILLY has also gotten lottery land there as well. I suspect she is his daughter. (I plan to check probate records to see if I can secure that relationship.) I added the CALHOUNs, as Fleming SHIVER marries Elizabeth CALHOUN, and I thought there might be some significance to that. (Whadda ya think Farrell?) Anyway, now to those three women! In the Laurens County, Georgia marriage records, I found the following: Jane SHIVER md. A. J. PAYNE on 8 Apr 1834 Angeline SHIVER md. John PAYNE on 12 May 1836 Martha SHIVER md. Abram DOLL on 29 Aug 1841 Now, who do these women belong to? I found Abram (Abraham) and "Patsey" (nickname for Martha) listed in the 1850 Laurens Co. Census as follows: Page 262, 26 Oct 1850 503/503 Abraham DOLL 33 M Tailor b. Germany (can't r/w) Patsey DOLL 49! F " Now, it is obvious that if Abraham married Martha "Patsey" Shiver nine years earlier, that she was NOT born in Germany (I suspect a census enumerators error; what a surprise, eh?!) But LOOK at that age difference! And I have considered that she might have been a widow SHIVER, but I'm 99.9% sure that the record stated MISS Martha Shiver, not MRS. (as some do). I'm going to double check that before I go home. I haven't had a chance to check them out in 1860 and see if their ages stay static (meaning they add 10 years like they are supposed to!), but will do that on Saturday... Interesting that in 1850, Abraham and Martha are living next to Polly SHIVER (Mary Delk Shiver), Warren Shiver's widow. and her children, Maranda-15, Laura Ann-13, Julian-10, Warren-8 and Russel-4? (interesting implications if Warren did indeed die in 1843 as the J&P Bible records state). Living next to Polly on the other side is Winey DELK, 34 and her 4 year old daughter, Martha. I'm wondering if Martha was perhaps a sister to Warren, and thus the close relationship/living quarters with Warren and Mary (Polly)? I was unable to locate Jane Shiver Payne or Angeline Shiver Payne in the 1850 census (ran out of time). I think I have them located in 1840, so I'll get that information as soon as I can. If anyone has information on any of these women, would you please contact me? I'd like to be able to do some more research on them while I'm here. I'm determined to flesh out these families in that time frame if possible, as there are still SO many holes! Well, good luck chewing on this and let me know if you can make any sense of it! SHIVER, John Henry Sr; 84; Sale City GA>Lakeland FL; ledger; 1998-10-25 Hope it helps someone. I am not a Shiver researcher however I am a Shivers researcher and last night I found something in my files that someone may want to follow up on. I have a sheet of paper that says and I quote, " Need any info on Shiver - Thompson. Families of S.C. (Camden, Orangeburg areas particularly) need HELP! Will Answer all." This is signed Candace Smith, 4 N Paxton Dr. Savannah, GA 31406. There is a date on this of Feb 85 so it may not be current. -----Original Message----- From: SHIVER-D-request@rootsweb.com <SHIVER-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: SHIVER-D@rootsweb.com <SHIVER-D@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, January 18, 1999 8:33 AM Subject: SHIVER-D Digest V99 #6

[Mary] OK, so I'm doing a cattle call for everyone to send me privately their lines of descent (even if you have before), so I can get them up on - the site (unless you have sent me a GEDCOM, because I've already loaded those), and then I'll know who to focus on when I work on the site this - week... [Lyrice] As the songs say "I've never done this kind of thing before!" TO Mary> Yea, but they might see it through the window and get the wrong idea. Afterall, several people go into a room with lots of coffee and - don't come out. Look in window and stacks every where >> Tracie has left channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [LAShiver] hmmm....I just remembered....out whole line just had a reunion.....at hopeful....Camp Tucker [HarryR] Now you can't say that anymore Lyrice :) [PRIVATE FROM Mary] Of course, Shirley and I wouldn't be drinking the coffee... I think 3 has been our max, right? [HarryR] I'm Laverne's cousin, Lyrice [STS] I STILL think we should have a MASS SHIVER reunion in 2000 [Lyrice] Oh Yes, I remember! [PRIVATE FROM Mary] I wondered how long it would take you to catch that... I did it once too! :-) [LAShiver] Enoch...James Allen...Turner Dumas...Turner Ashby..Lewis Edward...James Alton....Leslee Alton Jims> If we had all these people, its one window per person [LAShiver] I agree with the 2000 Reunion.... [LAShiver] but where [STS] North FL? South GA? Jims> About on the Ga Alabama line somewhere [STS] We have our branch reunion at Fl Cavern's State park [Mary] How about Seattle? Get ya'll away from the South? :-) [LAShiver] not too far for me [HarryR] There was a Shiver reunion near Marianna Fl last year >> tracie has joined channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [STS] that's near the AL, GA, FL line. [tracie] sorry -- aol cut me off [STS] That's the one, Harry...we have it every year on Memorial Day (observed ) weekend [HarryR] STS, that's the one I saw advertised somewhere [STS] Right...on the SHIVER GROUP? [Mary] I see everyone's ignoring my suggestion... I feel appropriately ignored! ;-) [HarryR] I just missed a Rudd reunion in Jacksonville this past year too [STS] What suggestion was that? [LAShiver] hmmm....... Jims> Mary, what was the question [LAShiver] my shivers are lazy [LAShiver] hehe...no reunion [Mary] I think we should have the reunion in Seattle... Gets you all out of hurricane territory! [STS] HA! YOURS??!!?? [HarryR] You seem to be the only one on the west coast Mary! :) [STS] Do you want to foot the bill? Jims> Mary, we need to get you back to your roots! [LAShiver] well........come down here...get you out of the cold [Mary] I am, that's why I was joking... [HarryR] And I'm the only one in Maryland! Jims> Hold on, It cost just as much from ND [Mary] It's not cold, just WET! I have webbed feet (and you are NOT allowed to laugh at them!) [Mary] That's true Jim, we'll take up a collection... [LAShiver] I can't chip in....I have $4,000 worth damage done to my car... [STS] I'm nomesick! [STS] HOW? Jims> Shirley, you just got back.. [LAShiver] hehe...I got in a wreck 2 nights ago in Cairo... [LAShiver] 2 blocks from the pd [STS] I know...and I didn't want to leave.... [Mary] Well, we're glad you're still with us Leslee... [HarryR] Cairo....a name I haven't heard in a long time [STS] THAT was a BAD location!@ [tracie] cairo isn't too far from here [Mary] You teenagers and your driving! Jims> But a place I would like to research [LAShiver] there is several shivers burrid at pine level [Mary] Of course, I was NEVER a teenager... [STS] No, Mary, I'm the old lady of this group [LAShiver] i sent you who all I found right mary... [LAShiver] M. Shiver....n Elizabeth Shiver [Mary] I'm just teasing Leslee, he's only 17! [LAShiver] W.A Shiver....n Minnie Lee William [HarryR] 17?? I can't remember that far back! [tracie] did anyone have any info on my isaac or his family? [LAShiver] hehe...I'll be 18 Sept 30... [STS] Seriously, about the reunion...Would you all consider Marianna, Fl, and the State Park? (It's not air conditioned) [LAShiver] well let's not let it be in the summer Jims> You know I will if I can get off for it [Lyrice] Have it spring or fall if no AC [LAShiver] hmm......march....or april [STS] I think we'd have to work around Jim getting leave.... [PRIVATE FROM Mary] Jim - for some reason, I lost a bunch of my scrolled material just now, only have about two screens, can you do another cut and - paste from where you left off before? [Lyrice] Ok! Jims> Don't forget kids and schools also [STS] We retired people don't have to worry about such things. [LAShiver] hmmm........true [Lyrice] I foget about kids and work! [Mary] Sounds fine to me, but it'll all depend on $ and time off for my husband... That's a looooong trip with three little kids in tow! [LAShiver] SR. next year other week, and I'll post a notice to the - mailing list. If you don't want to participate in that branch's discussion, you don't have to join us. [LAShiver] I am eager to learn....can't ever learn too much [Lyrice] good way to find our connections [HarryR] that's great Mary! [STS] I agree...I'm like Mary...I want everything I can get my hands on! [Tracie] this is a good way to learn new info---- is there anyone i could talk to about the n fla shivers? [Mary] Is 9 p.m. Eastern too late for any of you back there? It might work better for me too, since I don't get home from church until about 4:30, - and then have to rush through dinner to get online by 5 Jims> Tracie, which ones [STS] Tracie...I have some on them...not much, but it might help you....Actually, if you live near Tallahassee, you shoudl get in touch with Mac - Shiver in monticello [HarryR] there''s lots of them Tracie [Mary] Mac is Drexel's brothers... [Mary] Oops! Brother [STS] BUT, he's about a 30 minute drive from Tracie [Tracie] mostly those on hamilton and lafayette counties [Mary] I'd love to have more information on them if anyone has it. I'd like to flesh out that part of the web site... Jims> That would be 8pm my time. It will work [STS] That's the line that Mac is chasing. [LAShiver] hmmm.......IE5 [Mary] So, is everyone agreed that 9 pm EST/6 pm PST is ok? [Tracie] mary --i can send you what i have though it may need some correcting [STS] I can make it anytime you all agree on.... [Mary] Tracie - [Tracie] 9 pm is fine with me [Mary] That would be great! [HarryR] SOunds good! TO Mary> Mary, make a cut and paste. Just lost my screen so I want be able to back you up [STS] Tracie...e-mail me at shirleyt@bellsouth.net [Lyrice] 9 pm is fine with me [LAShiver] i have nothing else to do....my car is dead [HarryR] I can at least listen :) [PRIVATE FROM Mary] Got it! Thanks for the warning! [Lyrice] did we decide on every other week or every week [STS] Every other? [Mary] I think every other week would be better. Could get to be too much for those of us who want to be there for each session... [HarryR] every other week might be more productive [Lyrice] ok [Tracie] ok here [STS] It's been great, folks... [Mary] We will all need processing time too, and I won't be here next week, I'll be in Salt Lake, but I'll still be in touch by e-mail! [HarryR] A suggestion? Next time, include your location in your nickname? Jims> If we know the topics in advance, maybe we could be better prepared [STS] One of these days, I'm going to have to meet you in SLC [Mary] That's a good idea, like I'm MaryWA [Mary] Yep, Shirley, you are! [Tracie] my e-mail address is Noles1574@aol.com if anyone has anything [LAShiver] Mary....what all are you going to get from SLC [STS] YES, name, place and serial # (your ancestor) [Mary] Actually, if you do have anything, please post it to the SHIVER-L list so we can ALL see it! [HarryR] yes, please do..... [LAShiver] what kind of records do they have there...I have heard it is THE PLACE.... [Mary] Be careful though, as it won't let you use a really long nickname, and no spaces I believe, I tried "Mary K" and it wouldn't let me in the - chat room [HarryR] what is SLC?? [Mary] Salt Lake City [LAShiver] Utah [STS] LA You're local Family History Center has almost everything SLC has... [HarryR] oops....duh! [Tracie] don't worry mary-- as much help as the list has been i will share [LAShiver] you can't use spaces.... [Mary] Well, not everything, actually, there are quite a few books that are not microfilmed that you can only see in SLC, and some microfilms as well, depending on permission obtained from the original author... [LAShiver] hmmm...... [STS] I know...ran into that trying to do Cuba research for a friend...the Cuba stuff was NOT on microfilm! [HarryR] Well I'll check your site for the latest census data before I go to the archives Mary [Mary] Yes, Salt Lake can be VERY intimidating if you are a first-timer... Probably like what you will experience at NARA Harry [Mary] When do you leave Harry? [LAShiver] I wonder how atlanta is [LAShiver] and their stuff [Jims] Tracie, I have a bunch of Fla Land Patients that I can't match up. You want copies [STS] Atlanta has a very good library and archives [HarryR] I'm sure....I plan to go back once I learn what to do....It's just a subway ride away Mary :) [LAShiver] have you ever been there [Tracie] that would be great jim--how about any shivers in jackson county, fl?? anyone know of any Mary> Harry, I have an uncle on my Dad's side (those traitorous Yankees!) who lives in Sykesville... [STS] Yes...talked to one this summer...real nice fellow [Jims] Tracie, exactly where is Jackson county and I will check [Tracie] marianna area [STS] West of Tallahassee [LAShiver] hehe....yankees....get this my mom's family fought for the north...my dads fought for the - south... [Tracie] my jennie was married there in 1885 but i dont' know who she was with--isaac wasn't there Mary> Just FYI, I'm going to try and get some more records on Florida SHIVERs while I'm in SLC. Going - to check the Jackson, Hamilton and whatever else county records for marriages, etc. [HarryR] hehe...actually Maryland is south of the Mason-Dixon line [STS] Tracie...this guy was in Sneads [Tracie] i have some info on shivers buried in day cemetery in lafayette county if anyone wants it [STS] He is from Ennis m Gladys Lynn (surname) [Tracie] sneads is about 45 minutes from me [LAShiver] I know where sneads is....nice Xmas lights Mary> I'm trying to extract relevant data from all applicable counties. Seems rather scattered, but I - know it will come together some day! Mary> MAYBE! [LAShiver] same here....well I use to could have gotten there in about 3 minutes.... [LAShiver] 30 [Jims] Tracie, yes, several! [LAShiver] not 3 [STS] Anyone know Joe Shiver in Tallahassee? [LAShiver] I want some info on Enoch and dooly county [Jims] Tracie, also Hamilton and Levy [STS] OR a Shiver in Bainbridge GA...has a U-Haul dealership [Tracie] i know they are scattered around that area [LAShiver] I know for a fact James allen and ransom was born there....which I think you have records of - too [Tracie] i even work with a shiver from lafayette county Mary> Leslee - Good luck.. Dooly Co. records were destroyed just about the time he died in Dooly Co. - Lyrice's newspaper article is all the information we have on his connection to James, son of J&H. [Tracie] dont know if we are cousins or not [Lyrice] What's is line - the guy you work with? [LAShiver] I am talking about enoch....and his family... [STS] I have a 3 vol set of Dooly Co records...will do look-ups [Tracie] i have no idea--his name is kenneth and he is about 27 yoa [LAShiver] hmmm....look up...James Allen Shiver....son of Enoch [Lyrice] Now much on Shiver family in that 3 vol set! Mary> Tracie - I'd say yes, you are probably cousins... [Tracie] i asked him once but he isn't into the family tree thing-- [STS] brb [Jims] Shirley, could you bring that set to Fla this summer [LAShiver] hehe.....I have been trying to find online records as much as I can...but everyone is - wanting to charge me money Mary> Tracie - Just find out who his father was, and maybe his grandfather, that ought to tell us - something! [Tracie] i'll try [STS] I have an R.E.; A.J.; Enoch; G. Jerry/ Homer; Jerry E.; Jerry B.; Lonnie; M.A. and Nesbit Lee [LAShiver] Mary.....who was Enoch's brothers or people you was trying to tie him to [STS] That's G. Jerry; Homer Mary> Leslee - Welcome to the future of Internet genealogy... I'll just put in a plug for Rootsweb... - They are SEVERELY underfunded, and I'm afraid that unless more people who use their service will pay - their minimum "member" fee (voluntary of course) of $12, they will get bought out. Do you realize that - they are shortly going to be the only online genealogy service to offer FREE information? Most of the - others have been bought out by major software companies who want to make $$$. Mary> Leslee - Enoch's brothers (at least two of them) we believe were Manning and Ransom... [STS] Does that include GENFORUM? [LAShiver] manning as in married Sarah....daughter Rebecca Jane [Lyrice] yes Mary> I'm not sure Shirley, but most of the genealogy software out there now is owned by The Learning - Co.... Pretty soon they will have a monopoly and then they'll be able to do whatever they want with - their software's online resources... Mary> Leslee - Yep that's him! [Lyrice] I'm going to say 'Good Night" folks - It's been fun! >> Lyrice has left channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [LAShiver] hmm....that means....James Allen .....and Ransom married their....nieces children..... [LAShiver] right? [STS] Most of these Shiver's married cousins, at least.... Mary> Leslee - Yes, and don't be surprised. There is LOTS of intermarriage in this family. That's only - the tip of the iceburg! -- Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@ibm.net My genealogy home page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy Listowner of SHIVER-L, STARRHRY-L, GADOUGHE-L Rootsweb Mailing Lists Coordinator of the Dougherty Co., GA USGenWeb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gadoughe
Transcript of SHIVER chat on 17 Jan 1999: [Lyrice] Found Enoch applying for administrator on the estate of James - Shiver in Dooly Co. [Lyrice] Also Alfred being admr. on John Shiver Estate [joanne] is that our Enoch or the Enoch known as"nick"? Mary> And I spent last night pouring over census records, which indicate that Enoch (if he is indeed - James' son), would have been the oldest son of James and Elizabeth [Lyrice] Headed to Dooly County next week to see what I can find if anything [Lyrice] Enock known as Nick is Fleming's son [STS] So, which "James" are we refering to , here? Mary> Nope, that would be our Enoch. Mary> James, son of John & Hannah >> LAShiver has joined channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [STS] OK [LAShiver] I'm back [STS] MIssed you [Lyrice] this is interesting! [LAShiver] what have I missed [STS] I know this is probably a moot point...but has ANYONE seen any RECORD of the marriage of John and - Hannah? Mary> We're talking about some new stuff that Lyrice found on James, son of John & Hannah, and that our - Enoch applied for administration of his estate [Jims] Lyrice, so ransom had a son Enoch also? Mary> Nope, I haven't, and have always wanted to look for! [Lyrice] Mary, were you saying that "our" Enoch was known as Nick Mary> No, Ransom didn't have an Enoch... And no, Lyrice, that Enoch is Fleming's son. I was agreeing - with you! [Lyrice] Ok just checking [HarryR] Would Enoch or James be in my lineage? [LAShiver] hehe....one of these days I will go to baker county and verify you tax receipt on - enoch...Mary Mary> Tell me again Harry which one of the lines you come through? [joanne] Goodlluch in Baker county. Most records are attrocious, or non-existent [STS] Which Baker Co? Ga? Fl? [LAShiver] GA Mary> We are talking about GA right now... [HarryR] Emery Caleb, son of Evan T Shiver and Martha Willingham [LAShiver] do live in the area [STS] OK [joanne] baker, Ga [Lyrice] I've seen tax records in Baker County in several references but not actual record itself [LAShiver] you live in baker?? Mary> You are descended from Manning then Harry, and we STRONGLY suspect that he and Enoch were - brothers. Mary> Lyrice is in Valdosta [HarryR] ok, thanx. Mary> Matter of fact, we think that Manning and Enoch were brothers who married sisters... [HarryR] they did a lot of that it seems [Lyrice] I I also suspect that Enoch was also brother to Fleming and Ransom as well [LAShiver] enoch had a son named ransom right? [Lyrice] yes [Lyrice] yes [HarryR] So we all descended from whoever Enoch's parents were? Mary> Yes, and as I was pouring over Drexel's book last night and looking at those sons of John & Hannah (like Abraham and Jacob) and all their associations with the PAYNE family, I can't help but wonder if their wives weren't part of that family? Any one care to take a leap of faith with me? HEE HEE [STS] brb Mary> Harry, yep! Mary> And we believe that Enoch's father was one of the sons of John & Hannah of Kershaw Co., SC [LAShiver] I have found records of Ransom and James allen....and W.M. Sullivan....all in the cival war.. [HarryR] I ordered Drexel's book too [joanne] question: how much of the shiver data regarding Enoch, comes from Bible records, or wills? I know guessing is sometimes all we have to go on, but just what is proven? [Lyrice] I joined the UDC thro John W. Shiver Mary> We have a Bible record that links Martha (John's sister) to Enoch and Dedemiah. It was written after the fact, but it's better than nothing! [Lyrice] Yes have Enoch's family fairly well documented [LAShiver] if any of you have icq and havn't added me yet....add me....7919877 [LAShiver] lyrice....that's my group.... Mary> I have finally gotten my database up to date on them and will be adding more on their children (as well as Manning, Ransom, James & Polly) and others to the web site (hopefully tomorrow) [Lyrice] Polly, enoch's daugher - in her obit it says she is daughter of Enoch Shiver Mary> Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that one! [joanne] when did polly die. where was obit? [LAShiver] where have you all been finding all this stuff Mary> Now, as for you Jacob SHIVER descendants, how many of you want to SWEAR on that non-existent family Bible that Jacob had two wives? Mary> I'm having my doubts, that's why I asked... [STS] Not me! [HarryR] have all the census records been checked? [STS] But, If Abner didn't descend through Jacob, I have no idea where he came from...do you? [Lyrice] polly died 14 Oct 1916 - obit in Camilla Enterprise [joanne] thanks Mary> I have fairly complete census records up through 1860 on my site for all SHIVERS in SC, GA, AL and FL [Lyrice] Thanks Mary for the census data - comes in handy! [HarryR] Ok Mary...I've looked through those I think. I am going to the Nat. Archives next - weekend...what should I look for? [STS] Has anyone connected any of the Kershaw Johnson's to our Shiver's?? Mary> No, I think Abner was part of Jacob's line (at this point), but I meant that Darcus outlived Jacob and I don't see THAT much of an age problem with early census records and her being the mother of ALL of his children. [LAShiver] My aunt and I are going to the archives in Atlanta Mary> Well, I actually have a WHOLE lot more census records extracted than I have on the site, I just haven't been able to put them up yet! I have 1870 for all states, 1880 for most and am working my way through 1900/1910 [LAShiver] I have seen the microfilm of the 1900 in the library in camilla [HarryR] wow! busy! I've never been to the archives so I'll be lost I'm sure [LAShiver] they have all the censuses Mary> If you are going to Atlanta Leslee, you need to try to find secondary documentation... Land records, probates, etc. Full military service records, etc. [HarryR] I'm going to the one in D.C. [LAShiver] yep... Mary> Harry, you could get the service records on our Civil War vets if you want to... That would be incredible to have the whole thing! And widow's pensions if they are there... [HarryR] If you have some hints as to where to look, I'd be happy to try [LAShiver] hmmm..... Mary> I'll try and get these census records up for viewing this coming week as well... I'm leaving Wed. night for Salt Lake, so I'll be doing more work there as well... [Lyrice] They have the widow's pensions for Civil War at the library in Macon, Ga >> Jims has left channel #GAGenWeb_Chat Mary> For all of GA Lyrice? [LAShiver] i have records of pension [Lyrice] Yes, I believe so Mary> Yes, I have the ones for John W. and Sarah, but not for others that served, and there were a whole BUNCH of them! [Lyrice] I have John W.'s pension record for Sarah Mary> Yes, me too... That's where I got their marriage date, though it's funny that it changes occasionally! [HarryR] Mary, maybe you could send me specific names to look for [Lyrice] I have James Allen's [LAShiver] there is a whole encyclopedia of that stuff in the library [LAShiver] every body [Lyrice] I also have Darius Ramsey's - Eliza's husband Mary> Will do Harry... Leslee, are you talking about the extracts of the service records? I'm talking about their full service records that are kept in the National Archives. I'd also like to see John's Rev. War records if you can come up with them Harry. You might check SHIVER as well as SHAVER. [LAShiver] i have hold...on >> Jims has joined channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [Mary] Jim, where'd you go? [Lyrice] And Mary's for Marion Harmon Jims> Hey, I got the BOOT [Mary] Really? Sorry! [Mary] Does anyone have John's Rev. War service records? [joanne] lyrice, i live in jacksonville fl. can I come visit you sometime to share info? [Mary] Also, there were War of 1812 service records on some of his sons, that's how they got bounty land in GA in the first place! Jims> Not me. Looked once but couldn't find them, Not enough info [LAShiver] James A...Ransom....Marion Shiver....Clem T. Sullivan...William Sullivan [Lyrice] Yes, please come Joanne [Mary] Can I come too? <g> [joanne] thanks [Lyrice] Sur! [Mary] Soon as some airline decides to give me a free round-trip ticket... I'm THERE! [Lyrice] It would be great if we could all get together [STS] Hey! I've never seen the like...phone's ringing., door bell's ringing...I missed a whole block of chat...can I print this out? [Mary] Well, it is saved up above, just scroll upward to see it Shirley [HarryR] Yeah, that would be neat to be able to save all this stuff [joanne] does anyone need to look up info in a florida library. jacksonville has a pretty good genealogy room and I could try TO Mary> Mary, when I got the boot, I lost all my cut and paste for the transcription. Do you still have everything on the screen. If so please highlight and paste to a text document for me. [STS] Tried that...won't stay put long enough to read. [Mary] I'm planning on copying and pasting all of this when we're done so that I can send it to the list. Don't know how useful it will be, but might help someone... [STS] Good. Thanks' [HarryR] great Mary! [Lyrice] Joanne, do you have Sorney's obit/ Jims> Mary, it will only hold about 10 pages then it starts over so you have to cut and paste as you go! [STS] Speaking of FL libraries...I'll be in Polk Co this summer...they have a great library.... [Mary] Yep, just figured that out! RATS! [joanne] sorney did not have an obit that i am aware of. he died 24jul1941, living in Pelham Jims> Oh Well, we'll have to do a summery at the end... Each person [Mary] Thanks Joanne, just added that to my database, didn't have it! [LAShiver] hmmm....I need to go back and look at some censuses [Mary] OK, I've cut and pasted as far back as I can... (back about where we started getting serious and stopped introducing ourselves) [Lyrice] Oh - it was his marriage write up i have [HarryR] Well, I feel overwhelmed [Lyrice] It's Simon and Georgia Peral's obit I have [joanne] who's marriage write-up? [Lyrice] Sorney and Miss Roberts [joanne] they eloped, you know! [Mary] Let's just each take a turn and state where we are and what it is we'd like to find... That might help... [Mary] Joanne - I don't have Sorney's marriage date or his wife's information either... [Lyrice] So it said [Lyrice] married 31 Jan 1912 in Pelman [LAShiver] who is Marion Shiver [joanne] no they married in camilla, out in from of the preachers house [Mary] My biggest goal for this year is to get every SHIVER born in the 1770-1820 time period assigned a family (meaning assigned to a son (or daughter) of John & Hannah. We have too many floating around out there without connections to them! [HarryR] That's a BIG goal! [Lyrice] Let us know when you figure them all out! Jims> When she figures them all out, we lose a hobby [joanne] I would like to expand on Simmons line, Sarah Deliabell Simmons married to John W. shiver [STS] Who is this Marion Shiver you all are refering too? [Lyrice] Are we talking about Marion Harmon Shiver son of Enoch [STS] Reason I'm asking, Abner named one of his son's Marion Jims> Mary is having problems Jims> Her window has frozen up [HarryR] bummer >> Mary has left channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [STS] Oh. Will she have to back out and reboot? >> Mary has joined channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [STS] That was quick [HarryR] welcome back Mary Mary> Well, now I've been bumped! [LAShiver] What date do you have on William Manning Sullivan dying Mary> Man, that's weird! Typing along, and all of a sudden, it doesn't go to the screen... odd... Mary> Leslee, I have 26 Sep 1884 Mary> He died in Decatur Co., Georgia [Lyrice] Can we have our files open and this thing too? [LAShiver] I have 20 Sep 1884.......on the civil war records..... [Jims] Yes Mary> Lyrice - Yep, the miracle of Windows! [Lyrice] Wish I knew what I was doing! [LAShiver] Sullivan, William...private May 29, 1862..... [LAShiver] died if tb [HarryR] you're doing fine Lyrice! Mary> I imagine it's right around there Leslee, my date is probably off a headstone... [Jims] Lyrice-Of course, thats comming from two people who got the boot Mary> They aren't always as reliable as you'd like to think... [LAShiver] I can't remember what I got off of his tombstone either Mary> Yes, how true Jim! Probably had too much open at the time, eh? LOL!!! [Lyrice] I've just been looking in my notebooks! [Lyrice] Which are not up to date! [STS] What secrets did you find? [LAShiver] well....I can tell you where just about all of W.M. Sullivan and Rebecca Jane Shiver >> Tracie has joined channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [LAShiver] 's kids are burried [LAShiver] most mt pleaseant Mary> Hi Tracie! Researching SHIVERs? [LAShiver] i sent you where Clement Thomas is burried right... [Lyrice] Hi Tracie [Tracie] Hi sorry I am late! [HarryR] Hi Tracie...where u from? Mary> Nope, Leslee, I don't think you did. Was that W.Manning's son, or his brother Clement T.? [Tracie] I am researching Shivers in Ga and Fla....I'm in Fl [STS] Where in FL? [LAShiver] de donde eres? Mary> Which line Tracie? [Tracie] Isaac shiver and susannah smith [Tracie] my ggrandmother was his daughter, Jennie [STS] Oh, Lord! Another Isaac! [LAShiver] Isaac? [LAShiver] yeah....I don't have school until wed. Mary> OK Tracie, I just got an email this afternoon from someone who descends from Isaac through his - daughter Margaret Dorinda SHIVER, b. 1843. Which child of his do you come through? Mary> Oh, yeah, wait, I just read what you wrote! Mary> So that's Isaac, son of Abraham? Or a different one? [Tracie] my isaac was the son of jacob and hannah perkins [Tracie] he was born in 1844 in pulaski cty, ga >> joanne has left channel #GAGenWeb_Chat [STS] ok g-son of Abraham and Martha? [LAShiver] microsoft....is making me mad... [Tracie] yeah--their grandson Mary> Well then, I need to get his descendants from you, as I don't have anything on Jacob's - children... [STS] That's cool. Do you live in N FL? [Tracie] i live right outside of tallahassee [STS] Near Mac? [Lyrice] Wow, close to me in Valdosta [STS] Monticello? [Tracie] this whole line has been crazy for me [HarryR] I was just visiting Tallahassee last August Tracie [STS] WELCOME TO THE CLUB! Mary> I probably just need to check the census records and get it all in database.. Typical of me! [Tracie] jennie shiver married john crawford and lived in wakulla county, fl [STS] Is that where the given name, Crawford, comes form? [STS] We have a Crawford in our (mine and Jim's) line [Tracie] when my g-aunt died we found a letter where jennie had written the war dept about isaac's - records [Tracie] ths is how we found him Mary> Tracie - I know you've probably sent me this before, but can you send me Isaac's line, and his - siblings in particular? [STS] Me, too...I don't have any of Jacob and Hannah Perkins children.... [Tracie] sure, i can send you what i have---alot i got from the mailing list when i stumbled across it [STS] In this game, STUMBLING is good! [Tracie] i only show two children for jacob and hannah Mary> Good. I'll take whatever I can get and get it up on the site with appropriate e-mail links to you - for others to contact you on that line... -- Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@ibm.net My genealogy home page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy Listowner of SHIVER-L, STARRHRY-L, GADOUGHE-L Rootsweb Mailing Lists Coordinator of the Dougherty Co., GA USGenWeb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gadoughe
OK, kids, decided to try something different. In this e-mail, I'm sending the note I sent with the attachment. In the next one, I'll send the cut and pasted transcript. Sorry about all this mess! Mary K. ***************** Hey all! Just wanted to pass on what happened in our SHIVER chat last night. There were about 8 of us I think that joined us, and we spent almost 2 hours online just swapping data and asking (and even sometimes answering!) questions. All in all, a lot of fun was had, and we were able to get to know one another a little better.' We have also decided to continue to meet in that chat room (here's the URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/chat.htm) every other week at 6 pm PST/9 pm EST on Sunday nights. Each meeting will meet to discuss a specific branch of the Southern SHIVERs. We will be discussing descendants of specific sons of John & Hannah (or grandsons, if we can't make the connection), and don't forget daughters and granddaughters! Feel free to join us if you have something to contribute on a particular line, or would just like to find out more. I would ask though, that we try to stay "on topic" while there, as we will be trying to keep our chats focused and down to about 1 hour (for you Eastern Time Zone folks). I will be announcing the topics and reminding everyone of the date and time through the list, so keep your eyes open! Attached, please find a transcript of the bulk of our chat from earlier this evening. I didn't get the beginning (lost it before I could cut and paste), but it was mostly introductions, etc. The very end was also lost for the same reason, but again, we were mostly saying goodbye. In between there was quite a bit of data being shared, and I hope that some of you that were intimidated by the thought of live, real-time chat will join us next time! Please feel free to contact me if you need more information on any of the information discussed. Some superfluous comments (mostly mine!) were deleted and some spelling normalized (in other words, typos corrected...), but 99.9% of the chat is here. Just so you know the players: LAShiver= Leslee Alton Shiver of GA STS= Shirley Turner Shiver of TN Jims= Jim Swailes of ND Mary= Me! Lyrice= Lyrice Shiver McCranie of GA Tracie= Tracie Crawford of FL Joanne= Joanne King of FL HarryR= Harry Rudd of MD Hope I caught everyone and that the information is correct! Please try and join us next time! I don't know what happened when I sent that! How odd! My "sent" folder shows a normal message with attachment. I'll try to send it again; just delete the first "Transcript" message you get. It's a garbled mess!
